Question:
Replacement axle question - Hi I will need to purchase a replacement axle for a dual axle trailer. Trailer had two 2000 lb square axles. Was looking at purchase of a 2000 lb dexter round axle and have a few questions. 1 the axles are mounted below the springs so - for the 2000lb axle do I need an overunder conversion kit or ? 2 Do I need to weld on the spring perches or can that be done prior to purchase if I know the spring distance? 3 Are there any non weld spring perches?

In order to mount the round 2,000 pound axle under your trailer's leaf springs, we will need to piece together an over-under kit for the 1-3/4 inch outer diameter of the axle. The Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kits that you referenced are made for axles with a 2-3/8 inch round axle # K71-384-00 or 3 inch round axle # K71-385-00. The Dexter 2,200 pound straight axles have a 1-3/4 inch outer diameter. I have attached a link to all of the 2,000 pound axles we offer.
To mount the axle under the leaf springs on your tandem axle trailer, you will need:
4 - Spring Seat for Round Trailer Axles with 1-3/4 Inch Diameter # TRSS175
2 - U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 2,000 Pound Round Trailer Axles # APUBR-10
When you order an axle, like the Dexter Trailer Idler Axle Beam with EZ Lube Spindles # T20BTR-EZ-6048, there will be spring seats welded to the bottom of the axle. However, since you want to put your axle under your springs, you will need to weld on new spring seats on the top of the axle. We do not offer any axles with the spring seats already welded to the top of the axle.
The # TRSS175 spring seat will need to be welded to your axle. We do not have any spring seats for your axle that will not require welding.
