Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2005 Ford F-150 For Offroad and Slow Traffic

Updated 01/26/2016 | Published 01/25/2016

Question:

I have 2005 F150 5.4 L V8. I have a trans temp gauge and fell like my trans is getting too hot when I tow, am off road in rough conditions and also in heavy slow traffic. So Id like a staked plate cooler. Could you recommend one for me along with any adapters I might need? I have plenty of room in between my grill and radiator.

For a stacked plate cooler that would work great on your 2005 Ford F-150 check out the Derale Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit # D13402.

However, you did say you will be offroad and in slow traffic so a cooler with a fan built into it might be your best option. For that the part # D15950 would be ideal. In slow traffic a transmission cooler mounted at the front of a radiator won't get a lot of air flow. But with a kit that has a fan built into it the air flow will be there all the time.
