Stacked-plate heat exchangers have long been considered the most effective type of oil or transmission coolers, primarily because of their increased surface area. Allowing fluid to spread out over this larger surface area decreases the time required for heat transfer to take place. As a result, plate coolers typically manage to cool a greater volume of fluid faster than tube-and-fin, or even plate-and-fin, varieties. Add to that a powerful tornado fan that ensures optimum airflow at all times, no matter the environment, and you have a super-efficient heat-exchange unit.

Great product and prices really awesome service

by:

Have not installed it yet, but looks impressive! This this is like a beast cooler. Will be installing it this week before a long distance rv trip.

by:

Easy install, and works as specified. Would put on future high performance vehicles

by:

excellent quality product, I have intalled the fan/cooler on a toyota highlander 2010 without tow package not infront of the a/c radiator but exactly at the same place as toyota install the oem transmission cooler just behind the right fog light. I have a travel trailer of 3300 lbs dry, (4000lbs gross weight) and before my transmission temperature was around 215-220 F with a standard transmission cooler(without a fan) infront of the a/c radiator, but now with my new derale fan cooler, its around 180F after a long climb. I am totally satisfied. I had to build a bracket to fit the cooler in this tiny space behind the fog light, it took me 6-7 hours .

by:

Mounted between fuel tank and transfer case. Larger 6.0 cooler would go in front of intercooler. Dont need anymore heat there. This was cheaper and works great in this position. Wrapped exhaust near the lines as they have to dump out on right side of trans. and I did not want any hard 90 degree turns with all this extra plumbing. Keeps temps way lower. Also installed oversize/cooler pan.
FYI using temp sensors in pan and in valve body. Pan is regularly 30 degrees cooler than valve body.

by:

Awesome product! Received it yesterday. Custom fabricated brackets for it to mount below my auxiliary trans cooler on my 07 fx4 f150. Installed the on off switch on out side of transmission and the fan works great!

by:

Awesome remote transmission oil cooler. Attached at the rear under belly of a Toyota FJ Cruiser, 2007.

by:

Excellent product, quality parts and fittings for multiple installation platforms. Took about 4 hours to install but was a custom install under bed of truck.

  • What Cooler is Best for My 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500 6.0 Engine for Towing a 38' 5th Wheel?
Hello Paul, Definitely a good idea to keep your transmission cooled while pulling a 38' 5th wheel. I found another option that I thought would fit your needs a little better, I went ahead and reached out to my contact at Derale and he agreed. The Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit w/ Fan, -8 AN Inlets - Class V # D15960 is going to be your best fit. You will still need the correct adapters, you will need to double check what kind of fittings your truck has. For your standard...

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler with Fan for 2012 Chevy Suburban
I spoke with my contact at Derale and he said that your 2012 model Chevy Suburban 1500 uses 1/2 inch transmission lines so the Derale Hyper-Cool Transmission Cooler # D13960 won't be the best option. For your Suburban you will instead want the Derale Hyper-Cool # D15960 which is essentially the same cooler with fan but designed to work with the 1/2 inch lines. An adapter isn't needed as the compression fitting that comes included with this cooler should work perfectly. A transmission...

  • Recommended Fan-Powered Transmission Cooler For 2003 Toyota Sequoia
The transmission cooler kit I recommend for your 2003 Sequoia is the Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Cooler kit, part # D15960. This kit includes the hardware to connect the cooler and the mounting hardware. This cooler is a stacked-plate cooler with a 500-CFM fan to make sure your transmission fluid stays as cool as possible. The great thing is this is a remote mount kit that can be mounted anywhere you have room under the hood. The cooler measures 13-inches wide x 10-inches tall x 5-5/8-inches...

  • What is Difference Between Stacked Plate Remote Derale Transmission Coolers 15660,15860 and 15960
So the reason the part # D15660 is the most expensive is because it comes with everything needed to install as a engine oil cooler kit since it has multiple fittings as well as the sandwich adapter. This is basically the complete kit. Next up is the # D15960 which setup to be a transmission cooler and comes with the fittings needed for this application which is considerably less than as an engine oil cooler. Finally the # D15860 comes with minimal fittings and adapters and would require...

The Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit part # D15960 has a continuous amp draw of 4.8 and a surge amp draw of around 7-8. I recommend using a 10 amp fuse with this cooler.

  • What is the Hose Diameter on a Ford 4R100 Transmission on a 2001 Ford E-450 Van
Your 2001 Ford E-450 van should be equipped with a 4R100 transmission that was used on the E-series vans with the 7.3 liter engine. This transmission did use the 3/8 inch diameter hose so using kit # D13022 is the one that you would use. The kit comes with 3/8 line and NPT hose barb but it also comes with an Insta-dapt radiator adapter for 5/16 inch lines that you would not use.

  • Can the Factory Transmission Cooler on a 2007 Nissan Frontier be Bypassed
We don't have a video but I can tell you how you would bypass the factory transmission cooler in the radiator of your 2007 Nissan Frontier. There is a line running to the radiator from the transmission and another running from the radiator to the transmission (the supply and return lines). You would need to take those lines out and plug the inlets where they were. How you do this will depend on if you remove the lines directly at the radiator or further back, leaving the fittings in place...

You are correct in that towing a trailer over 6,000 lbs. with your 2013 Ford Expedition XLT will require you to have the factory equipped heavy duty tow package, according to the vehicles owners manual. The factory equipped heavy duty towing package came with additional towing supplements such as a 7-way wiring harness, auxiliary transmission cooler, electric brake wiring kit, and a trailer brake controller. No, the Expeditions without the heavy duty factory towing packages did not come...

I recommend using the barb fitting if you go with this cooler. The cooler we recommend for your vehicle is the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets - Class IV # D13504. We have confirmed this to fit with your vehicle. I've attached an installation on another vehicle to assist.

  • Troubleshooting High Transmission Temperatures after Transmission Cooler Installation
I would try reversing the direction of the fan on the Derale Transmission Cooler # D15960 that you have installed on your 1994 GMC Truck to see if that will yield you cooler oil temperatures. Generally speaking coolers loose from 25 to 40 percent of their cooling efficiency when the fan pushes air through the cooler as opposed to being pulled through it. Also, depending on the location of the cooler in relation to underside of your vehicle the fan might be fighting the natural airflow...

  • Can a Remote Transmission Cooler Be Mounted Under the Front of a Truck Bed
Technically, with enough extra hose, you could mount it anywhere that is safe and does not expose the cooler core to road debris. I have not heard of anyone mounting a cooler in your chosen location though. You would also most likely need more transmission fluid because of the extra hose that would be needed. I recommend staying under the hood because the less hose that is used the less likely it is to get damaged. Plus it will be easier to install. If extra hose is needed a ten foot section,...

  • Can a Transmission Cooler be Used to Bypass the Radiator on a 32ft Motor Home
I verified with my contact at Derale that the Derale Hyper-Cool Transmission Cooler, # D15960, will work to bypass your radiator and cool your transmission fluid. One important thing to consider when installing a transmission cooler is the size of your transmission lines. If the diameter of your transmission lines are 1/2 inch in diameter, then you will want to go with the transmission cooler that you referenced. If your transmission lines are 3/8 inch in diameter, then you will want the...

I've attached the installation details to assist. You can have the fittings on either side of the cooler as long as you keep the hot line on the bottom and the cooled return line on the top. • Difference Between Derale Hyper Cool Remote Transmission Fittings D13960 and D15960
The difference between the kits is the size AN fittings that come with either. Aside from that it's the same coolers and the same fans. The Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler # D13960 comes with -6 AN inlet fittings and the part # D15960 comes with -8 AN fittings. -6 means the hose is 3/8 inch diameter and -8 means 1/2 inch diameter. The bigger the diameter the more fluid can flow through it. Either are a great option for your truck.

  • Can I Bypass the Factory Transmisson Cooler on a 2007 Nissan Frontier
We do not recommend bypassing the factory cooler with a supplemental transmission cooler, but if you are going to do so, I strongly suggest using the largest and most effective cooler that will fit in your engine compartment. Keep in mind, these transmission coolers are designed to be supplemental coolers to the vehicle's cooling system, not independent coolers. As far as coolers go, the most effective design is a stacked-plate cooler like the Derale High-Performance Transmission Cooler,...

  • Can You Run Larger Cooler Lines Into Smaller Openings?
Generally speaking, you won't want to run a larger line into a smaller opening with an adapter because the difference will create a buildup of pressure that will likely cause the line to burst, but running a smaller inlet into a larger port is possible. I checked with Derale and they mentioned that running a smaller line into a larger port just means that not as much fluid is going to be pushed into the cooler and it will run less efficiently, but it won't damage the cooler. Derale does...

The Derale remote transmission cooler, # D15960, is going to definitely provide enough cooling for your 2011 Silverado. The fact that it has its own fan means it will be getting the optimum amount of cooling all the time. You would use it to supplement the factory cooler, not replace it. The dimensions of the cooler are 5-5/8 inches deep, 13 inches wide, and 10 inches tall. You can use these dimensions to find the best place to put the cooler. • Will an Auxiliary Transmission Cooler Replace a Factory Radiator on 2006 Nissan Frontier
All of the aftermarket transmission coolers we offer are designed to be installed in addition to the factory cooler.
