Installation of Oil and Transmission Coolers on 2000 Ford F-250 with 5.4L V8 Engine

How do I know if my truck used 1/2 or 3/8 oil lines. Ford F250 2000. 5.4 L V8. With this set up do I remove the existing oil cooler. Im also looking at purchasing an oil pan. Tranny gets up to 220 when towing up hill.

Most oil and transmission coolers like the Derale Atomic-Cool # D15950 are not vehicle specific so you can install as large (and efficient) a cooler as you have the space to install it. An exception is the pan-type of transmission cooler like the Derale # D14208 which is designed specifically for vehicles with an E4OD, 4R100, 5R100, or 5R100W transmission. Coolers are also NOT fluid-specific to either oil or transmission fluid - they can be used in either application.
If you intend to add both an oil and transmission cooler, then the pan type transmission cooler is a great option since it requires no plumbing for installation and because it adds over 7 quarts of additional fluid capacity to the system! As long as your application is not low-speed off-roading - where there is not much air flow - then this passive type of cooler is simple, effective and leaves room in the engine compartment for the oil cooler.
A fan-powered oil cooler like the Derale Atomic-Cool has the advantage of not depending on air flow for its cooling action. It's fan cools your oil at any driving speed - great for when you're towing up long grades where your speed may be reduced. Because of this it can install pretty much wherever you care to mount it. This cooler supplements, but does not replace, the OEM cooler. Derale also offers a higher-efficiency Class V model, part # D15450. You can remove one of your oil lines to check its inner diameter.
