Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2004 Dodge Ram with Factory 4-Way
Question:
My 2004 dodge ram came with factory installed 4 wire flat. Its junk. What can I do to bypass this?

Expert Reply:
You can add a 7-Way trailer connector and retain the use of a 4-Way as well by installing # 37185. The 4-Way you have will plug into the 37185 and the remaining wires would have to be hardwired in. The white wire grounds to the truck frame. Black is for 12 volt power, blue is output to the trailer brakes and purple is for reverse lights. Whatever the trailer does not need you do not have to wire up. So for example if the trailer does not have reverse lights or the need for a 12 volt circuit you would not need to connect the purple or black wires.
I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. If you want to also replace the 4-Way you can use # C55504.
