Question:

I own a 2010 Forest River Rockwood Signature Series Ultra Lite 5th wheel, model number 8244S. Im looking for a hitch to install on the back of the trailer so I can install a receiver hitch cargo carrier to place a 280 pound scooter on it. What hitch, if any, do you recommend? Note, the trailer has electric stabilizer jacks mounted on the rear of the camper.

I'd begin by contacting Forest River to ensure that the frame members at the rear of your fifth wheel have sufficient capacity to carry the weight of the carrier and the scooter without damaging anything.

If Forest River gives you the go-ahead, I'd recommend the # UF35-946403 hitch, which is compatible with frame members that are between 47-3/8 to 77 inches apart, measured from the inside of the frame. This hitch is a weld on application, and has a 350 lb tongue weight capacity, meaning that the weight of the scooter and carrier cannot exceed 350 lbs.

If your truck can tow both your trailer weight and boat trailer weight, then you can use the Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 18" to 51" Wide # C13702 which is rated for up to 5,000 lbs. You will then use a compatible ball mount and make sure your wiring stays consistent. I assume you have surge brakes on your boat trailer but if you have an electric over hydraulic actuator, then more wiring will be needed. In some states your total length can't exceed 65 feet. In others that number is 70 feet and even 75 feet in a few. You will need to check with your local DMV to determine where you are safe to travel.

I have a Forest River Sunseeker TS2370 which is on a 2018 Ford Transit 350-HD chassis, 178 inch wheelbase. What is the recommended hitch for this unit. Only going to use it for bike carrier or cargo tray. Thank you
