Can a 2008 Chevy Silverado Handle a 2400 Pound Slide-in Camper
Updated 08/03/2015 | Published 08/01/2015 >
Question:
2400 pound slide in camper can we put this camper on our 2008 silverado? The gvwr is 6400, gawr frt. is 3950 and the gawr rr is 3750. The cargo weight rating is 1028 pounds. We have installed on our truck TI GMRTT15s. I was told they are rated for 7000 pounds. All these numbers mean nothing to me and I just want to put the camper on our truck. Thanking you in advance.

The GVWR is the gross vehicle weight rating. This is the most the vehicle can weigh including cargo, passengers, gas, everything. The GAWR is the gross axle weight rating which is 3,950 pounds for the front and 3,750 for the rear.
The cargo weight rating could be what the bed itself is rated to carry or what can be carried in the cab. Usually for the bed they use the term payload. Adding helper springs will not increase the capacity of the truck. Since the rear axle is rated for 3,750 pounds the 2,400 pound slide in camper would be fine on your 2008 Chevy Silverado.
