Heavy trailers and bed loads can make the rear end sag and throw off your handling. These SumoSprings Solo helper springs add up to 1,500 lbs of support at 50-percent compression so your ride stays level and stable when towing or hauling. They help your factory suspension bear the weight so your steering and braking stay consistent, your headlights stay aimed right, and you avoid that nose-high feel when under load.

Roads don’t stay smooth, and loads aren’t always the same. These microcellular urethane springs compress easily for lighter loads to keep the ride soft, then get firmer as the weight increases for steady support. That progressive load control means you still get a comfortable ride when light but solid support when towing heavy. The springs cushion bumps and shocks so you feel less bounce and sway even on rough pavement or uneven ground.
When a curve or crosswind pushes one side harder than the other, each spring reacts on its own to keep things balanced. The independent action helps reduce body roll through turns and keeps the vehicle steady when pulling into driveways or hauling off-center loads. It’s a simple way to keep a planted feel no matter what’s in the back.
These microcellular urethane springs are made to take abuse from oil, road salt, and UV rays while working in temperatures from -25 F to 200 F. They compress vertically with minimal side expansion so nearby parts stay clear even in tight spots. With no air lines or pressure to monitor, they’re completely maintenance-free—just install them once and hit the road knowing they’ll hold up under real work conditions.
Getting extra suspension support doesn’t need to be complicated. The SumoSprings Solo kit installs easily with no drilling required and includes two jounce-style springs that fit directly in place. The design upgrades your factory suspension for better ride control without adding complicated plumbing or adjustments—perfect for getting reliable load support without spending a weekend in the garage.

Hi, everyone, Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the SumoSprings solo line of custom helper springs. This is gonna come in a variety of different fits, and have different styles of spring. So let's check them out and talk about the differences. Now right away, this is going to be for the rear axle. You can see we've got one installed on our 4Runner today.
That's just one of many fits available, and it's a direct bolt on installation. Now with the rear axle, it's gonna help with a number of things. In any sort of towing applications where we've got a lot of tongue weight on the hitch, bringing the back end down, and the front end of the vehicle up, it's going to help return us to a more normal ride height. Now, unlike an airbag that's adjustable where you can tailor it to each load independently, this is going to be pretty much fixed, but it will provide a lot more support, especially compared to the factory bump stops. Now, this is just an example, because every vehicle fit's gonna be a little bit different, but just the overall height difference between the factory and the SumoSprings option is going to be pretty drastic.
So with these being so much larger, they're going to make contact with the axle a lot quicker, so we get quicker engagement and support. So we don't have all of this open air between the bump stop and the axle, where if we hit a bump with a heavy load, we feel all of this bouncing, or side to side, we don't feel as much sway, because this may contact a lot quicker, and provides that support when we need it. And with the SumoSprings, there are gonna be multiple different kinds. If you're looking at different options, you'll see a blue, a yellow, and a black one, and they are different. They really differ in the density.
Overall function and fit, it's gonna be pretty much the same. For example, on the 4Runner here, one of these black ones is available, but also a blue one. It's gonna be the same fit, but they offer different support. The blue one is going to be the lightest density, the black one is the medium density, and the yellow is the most extreme heavy density. That just means as you get more dense, it provides more support, and all of the weight capacities, depending on the kits, will vary a little bit, but as a general rule of thumb, you can go by that color scheme to find out whether you need the light, medium, or heavy duty option.
Now these feature a progressive spring rate, and what that means is the more they compress, the more they're going to push back and support, and try to bring the vehicle back to its normal driving position. So the initial first bit of compression is going to be a bit softer and easier to move. So for normal day-to-day driving when you have these installed, it isn't going to be as stiff. Then as we get into heavy loads and we start getting pretty extreme compression, it's going to work harder to push back to that normal state, and bring us back to a comfortable driving position. Now as far as the construction goes, it's going to be a microcellular urethane material, as opposed to something like a rubber material. Now the urethane's gonna be very heavy duty. It's gonna work in temperatures from negative 25 degrees Fahrenheit, all the way up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. So you can expect it to work in all sorts of weather conditions. And this material is going to resist all kinds of oil, road salt, and UV rays. So if it does make contact with the sun, it's not going to weather away, and any sort of road conditions, like road salt in the winter, isn't going to cause this to degrade over time. So whether you're looking for support side to side and limiting body roll in your vehicle, or you're looking for backend support for towing, or maybe just something heavy in the hitch like a cargo carrier, this is going to be a great way to do that. It's a maintenance-free solution, so you don't have to worry about maintaining air pressure in it like an airbag, although you don't get as much adjustability with it. I do think that trade-off is very much worth it, because once it's installed, you don't have to worry about it. The installation process is obviously going to vary depending on what kit you get, so do be sure to use our vehicle fit guide on our website to find the right kit for you and your vehicle. But that'll do it for our Look at This medium density SumoSprings solo line of air helper springs here at etrailer. Thanks for watching.

That is the beauty of SumoSprings! Super easy to install and once they're on you can forget they're there! Are you planning on towing something with your Jeep that you want extra support for?

Glad to hear the install wasn't too bad, Michael! Definitely let us know how the ride is once you take it out for a drive! What are you using your Van for? The tires look pretty beefy.

The springs are working exactly as expect. I have need up to the mountains numerous times and to Monerary to the Sea Otter bike fest. They have reduced the body roll and helped keep the truck stable on the mountain roads or when loaded down for camping. Im very pleased I added these Sumo Springs to my Tacoma.

Glad to hear they are helping, Cory! If you are feeling them going over speed bumps, I think taking one of the spacers out is a good idea. Especially if that is happening when you are unloaded. Speaking of which, what are you towing?

Year later my thoughts are the same but with one exception. If I had to do over I would have purchased the yellow sumo springs. I dont believe it would have made any differance in the ride due to the clearance between it and the axle. However, I am still a satisfied customer who would recommend sumo springs.
