Question:
Hi: I need clarification in order to decide between a class II and III hitch for our vehicle, a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder. Extent of towing will be to pull a small cargo trailer 4X8foot or 5x8foot when we bring our kids to move into/from college dorm and possibly using a bicycle rack other times. These empty cargo trailers are between 850-900 lbs + weight of cargo. Do you recommend a class II or III for these applications? Thank you.

When it comes to a hitch for your 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0 Turbo, I always recommend going with a Class III which has a 2 inch receiver opening. The 2 inch hitch is going to be more versatile in the long run. There are two options for a Class III hitch for your Santa Fe; Curt # C13152, and Draw-Tite # 75772.
The Curt Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver, # C13152, offers a higher towing/tongue weight capacity and it is most economical so this would be my pick.
Since you are planning to use the hitch for towing I have included an article that covers the steps to choosing the correct ball mount for your set-up. You might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, I have also included a link to additional ball mount options for you.
For trailer wiring, take a look at the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # C56184.
I have included a couple of videos for you.
