Brake Controllers are not vehicle specific, you can use any controller you wish on your F250. This being said, I would recommend a proportional-type controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. The Prodigy P2 is our best selling brake controller, and is popular because it is easy to use and the initial set up is very simple.
A proportional controller is superior to the older technology used by the time-delayed brake controllers. The proportional controller uses an internal sensor that can determine at what rate and intensity the tow vehicle is coming to a stop, and will send the appropriate amount of voltage to the trailer brakes so that the vehicle and the trailer stop at the same rate. This leads to a safer and more predictable stop.
To install your controller, you will need a Brake Controller Installation Kit, as the 1991 F150 doesn't have the under-dash connector for a plug and play installation. If you need a 6-way connector, you will need part # ETBC6. For a 7-way connector, use part # ETBC7. The 7-way is much more common.
We have an brake controller installation guide on the website as well as an installation video that can help you through the installation process. I will provide links below to the guide and video. The video shows installation on a 1990 F150, but the process will be identical for your truck.
