I don't have any reference material that would tell me which hubs and bearings your 1978 Highlander boat trailer would use. All's not lost, though. If you can supply the proper information, I'd be happy to check the hubs we offer and see if any of them is compatible with your trailer.

I'll need to know:

The reference numbers off your inner and outer wheel bearing
The bolt pattern of your existing hubs (see the FAQ article I've linked)
The hub bore at the inside of the hub where the grease seal sits
The diameter of the spindle where the grease seal rides

For instance, the # AKIHUB-545-35-G-K idler hubs you mention are for a 3500 lb axle whose spindles are compatible with a L68149 inner bearing and a L44649 outer bearing. The hub has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

If your bearings are too worn to obtain the reference numbers, you can use a digital caliper to get the inner diameter of the bearing or measure at the journal surface on the spindle where the inner and outer bearings ride. The measurement needs to be precise, so a ruler or tape measure won't work.
