How Often Do O-Rings For Derale Oil Relocation Kit Need To Be Replaced

Published 02/12/2015

Question:

My question regarding this kit D15718 or D15748 is the following: when I change the oil on our engine usually every 100 hours, the new filter has a rubber gasket on it. If I use the relocation kit, what type of gasket goes on the attached adapter to the engine? and how often does this need to be changed?

With the Derale Oil Relocation Kit like part # D15748 or part # D15718, there are O-rings included to mount the adapter to the engine block. Per the included instructions a light coat of oil should be applied to the O-rings when they are installed. The O-ring would not need to be replaced unless they start leaking. One of my co-workers has a relocation kit installed and said they have never needed to replace the O-rings.

As you stated, new oil filters have a rubber gasket included, so you would just need to apply a light coat of oil to the O-ring or gasket included with the filter before installing it on the relocation adapter.

You do not want to use a liquid sealant of any type on the threads because it acts as a lubricant when first applied and would actually allow you to over tighten the fittings causing leaks.
