Roadmaster Even Brake Terminal 1 Wiring of ICX Transmitter for a 2011 Chevy Colorado

Question:
I have a Roadmaster Even Brake system to put in my 2011 Chevy Colorado. The instructions indicate the ICX control unit in towed vehicle needs to be connected an add in switch or to the cold side of the brake switch, but also give some scenarios where this is unnecessary separate lighting systems and separate brake and turn signal lights on the towed vehicle. I have separate lights on my Colorado and plan to have a separate lighting system anyway. Does the ICX still need to be wired into the brake peddle with the extra switch anyway for the Even Brake to work properly? I have a second question. Can I feed 12 volt positive from the motorhome to the positive post on the Colorado to keep the battery charged on the Colorado without doing damage to anything on the Colorado electrical system?

Expert Reply:
Since your 2011 Chevy Colorado has separate brake and turn signals you would not need to run the wire from the ICX control unit. Like you mentioned, this is only necessary when the brake lights are combined with the turn signals.
Terminal 1 of the ICX control unit will need to be run to the brake light circuit though, since your brake lights are separate you can get this signal at the brake switch, or on the brake light relay.
If you wanted to run a 12 volt charge circuit from your tow vehicle to your vehicle being towed you would be totally fine to do this. This will put a maintenance charge on your vehicle battery and won't damage anything.
