Question:
I was wondering if it were possible to mount this receiver far enough back so that it is hardly visible

The Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 65069 is a good fit for your 2008 Jeep Wrangler.
I have attached a drawing that shows how the hitch is attached to the vehicle. As you can see, the attach points are on the underside of the bumper and on the inside of the Jeep frame rail. When installing this hitch, existing holes in the frame rail and bumper are used. Modifying the installation would void the warranty on the hitch, and possibly create a safety concern.
I have also attached a photo that shows this hitch installed on a 2007 Wrangler. As you can see in the photo, the receiver end does not protrude very far and the only part of the hitch that is visible is the receiver end.
