Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

2024 Subaru Outback Wagon

I ordered this hitch for my 2024 Limited XT Outback. The hitch kit arrived early and in good condition. I had ordered a fishwire only because the product information did not show that this was included with other parts. I found 2 videos for 2024 Outback installations and watched them several times to get familiar with the procedure. The removal of bumper and cover went well. I did have to remove mud flaps per instructions. The hitch was a tight fit, but I was able to get all bolts started before tightening. I got confused with some of the socket sizes needed and the torque settings differed from one of the videos. I was unable to torque the carriage bolts due to the muffler locations. I may give this another try. The reassembly went OK and I am pleased with the appearance of the hitch.

Perfection!! Super high quality powder coat. Simple installation and no BS, just the stuff you need. So glad I went with this instead of OEM. Fantastic value for the money

Ive had this hitch for a year, and am still standing by my 5 star review. I use my subie for ski trips, and have driven through tons of salt and ice, and the hitch and all of its components have zero rust or wear. Extremely solid hitch. Insanely good value, highly recommend!

For a gal who is handy, but not a "car guy", this couldn't have been easier! The video walkthroughs were helpful to have in my back pocket, but instructions were fantastic. Great little hitch to give me a little more flexibility with my vehicle. WAY better than taking it to the dealership and spending 3x the price, and great quality.

by:

The e25TR is easy to install. The provided instructions are clear. Very neat and clean design and you get to keep the bumper beam. The design allows the back of the car to maintain the factory integrity and have a hitch too. Highly recommended!

So glad to hear you're a fan of the design! It is nice being able to keep the bumper beam, for sure, especially on the new 2025 Subaru Outback Wagon. Thanks for sharing a photo of your handy work! Will you be using the hitch for a bike rack or cargo carrier?

by:
2025 Subaru Outback Wagon

Fairly easy to install and looks better installed and keeps factory crash resistance better than hitches that attach to the bottom of the frame. I had a problem with the passenger side mounting. One bolt hole was slightly off and I couldn't get the bolt in, so I used a bottle jack under the hitch to get the bolt in-possibly the hitch was slightly bent in shipping. Would have given 5 stars if not for that. Don't be intimidated by removing the bumper cover since that part of the installation is easy.

@Jerry Great job with the install Jerry! Did you need some wiring to go with the hitch? If you can tell me your year, make, model, and if you need a 4 flat or 7 way I am happy to get those part numbers to you. What do you mainly use the hitch for?

2024 Subaru Outback Wagon

This thing is heavy duty! Following the videos to remove the rear bumper facia made this a quick and simple install. I have a Subaru Outback Wilderness edition - so it has two exhausts, and although installing the bolt on each side with the fishwire was easily done; it was a bit challenging to torque the corresponding nuts which required a deep socket (and required some manipulation of the mufflers to try to get a straight path for proper torque).

Other than that - it was a smooth and straightforward install. I love the fact that this hitch is hidden, only a small (and unseen) section needs to be cut out of the facia (unlike the factory hitch), and the receiver alone barely sticks below the facia (which maintains maximum ground clearance).

I even designed and 3-D printed a TPU cover with the Subaru logo to finish it off (Goto MakerWorld - 2 inch Subaru Hitch Receiver Cover)

Sounds like you were able to power through this install Stevie, and make it the perfect set up for you! The 3D-printed Subaru cover is a nice touch to really finish it off too :)

An excellent unobtrusive addition to our 2020 Subaru that's further utilitarian-ized our only wagon. I felt diminished as a head-of-household without at least one vehicle without a "frame mounted" hitch (now a California requirement to even "rent" a trailer and use on roadways).
Installation of a Subaru hitch from Subaru would have required cutting an open-bottom oval from the facing of the rear bumper! Subaru quoted me a price, all inclusive of $1,047.00.
The eTrailer tucked away #e25TR hitch was $217. shipped. The only cutting of the under-bumper is off of an eTrailer cut-pattern and the slice is hidden, and minimal. The complete installation of the hitch and wiring harness at Charlies, in Encinitas, CA was $306. = $523. TOTAL. What cha' gonna do?

Wow! Sounds like a much better price for install than with the dealer. It also looks great and hidden like you mentioned.

@GwendolynY Yes, half as expensive in our case. I suggest eTrailer customers click on eTrailers "dealer directory" (maybe add a link to it here?) and NOTE the automatic zip code that the "dealer directory" automatically has waiting for you. When I first visited the dealer directory they had our zip code auto-entered as 92101. I didn't notice it was wrong and was directed to an installer not near our home. When I didn't hear back right away (I did two days later), I went back to the "dealer directory, saw the incorrect zip code and entered ours of 92024. I immediately received a response to Charlies Foreign, which is our long time foreign/domestic go-to shop in our neighborhood! Ours was the second eTrailer they installed,. They were listed as having only done one before, a 2018 Subaru Outback, and the install required moving a collection box, and didn't seem to be as straight forward as our 2020 Outback. Hence, my preparation for Charlies shop. Preparation paid off. I even took them a roll of 4" and 1" blue tape just in case they didn't have any on hand. They did though, as well as a Bosch cut-off tool just like the one in eTrailers e25TR video. Clean cut too. Of Note: As an antique Harley-Davidson service guide writer and publisher, I can attest to the safety value of TORQUING the nuts involved to their required specs. You don't want eventual vibration to loosen any nuts to an appurtenance you have on the road. Once installed a person naturally forgets what they did over time. Good road!

by:

Appears to be of excellent quality. The install was straightforward and I would highly recommend buying the push pins removal tool shown in the instruction video. I installed this hitch on my 21’ outback xt and the only difficulty I had was torquing the carriage bolts as the mufflers make it very difficult to access. The appearance when installed is very tidy and looks similar to OEM without the additional cost. Would highly recommend!

by:
Subaru Outback Wagon

Quick easy install with clear directions. This hitch is made right with good steel and quality welds. Installed on my Subaru Outback with a wiring harness for less than the dealer wanted for just the hitch.

by:
2025 Subaru Outback Wagon

2025 Subaru Outback Onyx: Installation was much smoother than expected. Everything lined up well. Took 2 hours, you don't need to be an expert to do this, but removing the fascia can be a headache if you haven't done it before. The part of the fascia that has to be cut is very minor and not visible from above. If you have the XT or wilderness its probably more cramped around the larger exhaust and might take longer.

Kuat Base 2.0 hitch rack fits perfectly fine, but the trunk gate bumps it on the way down when folded in the up position. Not really an issue for me but figured I'd mention it.

by:

Install was a breeze thanks to the installation video. I was intimidated but all went smooth. The hitch looks nice on my Outback Touring XT. I can't wait to bring my jetski with me everywhere near water that I go.

Great product - using it with my Kuat bike rack and have done some mild towing. Still working like a charm.

by:

Great hitch receiver! The directions were easy to follow, and the process of mounting it on the car was pretty straight forward. We've used it numerous times over the past year to hitch up a bike rack. Having hooked up hitch receivers on two of my cars I would advise that one simply follows the instructional video. (And the newer your vehicle is, the easier it will be to work with the bumper screws and body pins as they get rusty and brittle, respectively, over time.)

by:
2017 Subaru Outback Wagon

Best coating I have ever seen on trailer hitches!
Clear installation instructions. Perfect fit on my Outback.
It would be even better if mounting bolts and nuts were metric (for example, 17 mm). I had to buy 11/16" deep socket just to install this hitch (everything is metric on Subaru).

6/5/2025

Hey, it's America, Ivan. It can't be metric if we can help it! Haha just kidding - I can definitely see the want to standardize everything and have one system for everything! Glad it was a smooth install otherwise :)

by:
2023 Subaru Outback Wagon

The hitch is very ruggedly built. The installation video was excellent. I only used the paper instructions for the torque specs.
I used my wood pellet bags to support the bumper while removing and reinstalling since I was working alone.
The only problem I had was with the muffler being in the way of the carriage bolt. There was no way to get the torque wrench on it unless you moved the muffler. I did the best I could with an open-end wrench and guessed at the torque.

This hitch exceeded all expectations. The directions and videos were concise and very helpful. I was scared to disassemble my 2024 Subaru but frankly it wasn’t that hard. After the job was completed the hitch looked sleek and amazing but it is very stable and functions perfectly. Wonderful product!

by:

Hitch receiver was well made and easy to install. Great look. Only issue was removing the rear bumper fascia directly below the rear hatch. Those clips are very stubborn. Had to release them by pushing them up with a screwdriver from the underside of the vehicle. Your install video skipped over that part. Made it look a bit easier than it actually was.

by:
2024 Subaru Outback Wagon

Very happy with the service, quick shipping and product support. Installation was a piece of cake with the included instructional video. If you can change your own oil or rotate your tires, you can knock this out in an hour or two. Trickiest part for me was getting the torque wrench on the bolts directly above the exhaust, but managed to push the mufflers with my knees just enough to get access without having to drop them entirely. After lots of consideration, I felt this model had the best form and function for the price. Sure, the OEM hitch sits maybe 1.5 in higher and is slightly more concealed in the bumper, but that wasn’t worth over 2x the price for me. Looking forward to testing it out with my small trailer next week.

by:

This hitch fits like a glove. Brackets are not visible at all. Installation went well. I’d purchase this again.

  • Ball Mount for 2024 Subaru Outback Towing U-Haul Trailer
Hey David! Our own etrailer Hitch # e25TR measure 16" from the ground to the inside top of the receiver so that must be close. The typical U-Haul coupler height is going to be 18" which falls in-line with that recommendation. That would mean you need a 2" rise. The Flint Hill Goods Adj Ball Mount # FHG25VR has a minimum rise of 4" so you're going to sit a little high. Instead, I recommend the etrailer Adjustable 2-Ball Mount # e66PR. Hello Stanley, Congrats on the new 2025 Subaru Outback! What is your favorite new feature? I watched the video and see the bolts you are referring to. I get what you are saying, seems a little excessive to have the bolts thru the bumper, and underneath as well. That carriage bolt you saw in the video helps anchor the side arm of the hitch to the frame for extra stability. While most of the hitch is secured to the bumper beam, this bolt keeps things from flexing or shifting side-to-side,...
