Ball Mount for 2024 Subaru Outback Towing U-Haul Trailer

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 05/02/2025

Question:

Hello. Im towing a Uhaul trailer that has a recommended 18.5 to 18.75inch ball height measured at center of ball using a 2024 Outback Subaru with the 2inch factory hitch installed. Im not sure as to the exact height of the hitch because I am currently stationed at a different location but I believe it may be around 16. Would this hitch mount be the right one to accommodate any height difference? Possibly if it were installed upside down? Thanks.

Hey David! Our own etrailer Hitch # e25TR measure 16" from the ground to the inside top of the receiver so that must be close. The typical U-Haul coupler height is going to be 18" which falls in-line with that recommendation. That would mean you need a 2" rise. The Flint Hill Goods Adj Ball Mount # FHG25VR has a minimum rise of 4" so you're going to sit a little high.

Instead, I recommend the etrailer Adjustable 2-Ball Mount # e66PR. This will work well with the U-Haul trailer and keep you level with anything else you may tow in the future. It has a 2" ball, which is what the U-Haul coupler will have, and a 2-5/16" ball. Let me know if you need anything else.

Hey David, did the etrailer Adjustable 2-Ball Mount work out for your towing needs with the U-Haul trailer? I'm curious to know if it kept everything level, as it might help others with similar setups.
