Video Transcript for Breaking Down the Brophy Basic Turnbuckles w/ Hardware for Camper Tie-Downs

Today we'll be reviewing and showing you how the Brophy Stake Pocket Sliding Camper Tie Downs, part number TDSF, will fit on most trucks. These adjustable stake pocket tie downs will mount permanently in the stake tube of your truck for a tie down that is always ready to use. They have three removable spacer tabs that allow a custom fit for most pickups and a tab lock that anchors the tie down to the truck rail to prevent lifting and twisting. We'll begin our review by showing you how to install it onto our truck. To do this we'll slide the stake of the tie down into the stake pocket of our truck making sure that the black tab is facing the center of the truck bed. The spacer bars may need to be pried off if necessary to fit the size stake pocket of your truck.

Now with the tie down seated firmly in the pocket, we'll drill two 7/32-inch holes through the pocket about four inches from the top. Now for todays demonstration we will not be drilling and permanently securing this stake, but just showing you how to drill the holes and where. We'll then use the two lag bolts to thread into the holes that we just drilled putting pressure onto the stake. We'll now drill an 11/32-inch hole through the anchor tab and install the hex bolt. Now that we have our hole drilled through the bracket, we can move to the underside of the vehicle where you can see plastic paneling near the wheel well.

Removing this will allow you to open up a space for you to reach your hand up to thread on our washer and nut. You may need an extra set of hands when doing this part of the installation. Now with our camper tie down secured to our bed rail of our truck, we'll demonstrate how to tie your camper down with the tie down hardware package, part number TDHP, and we'll do this by taking the turn buckle, setting the chain on the hook on one end of the turn buckle, and then taking one of the s-hooks, putting the small end of the s-hook into the chain. We'll then take the other end of the s-hook and starting from the outside of the tie down which we'll slip into the hole, and with the camper positioned on to the tie downs you can simply turn the cam buckles which can either loosen or tighten to give you the best fit to your camper. Quick Tech Tip: Over-tightening the turn buckles may cause unnecessary stress to the camper and your truck.

That will complete todays review of the Brophy Stake Pocket Sliding Camper Tie Downs, part number TDSF.

The tie down hardware are a great buy, much less expensive than I could duplicate locally.

by:

Great value, but the turnbuckles could be of a little better quality. Worked great to secure my 1983 Sunlite Pop-up camper to the bed of my 1997 Dodge Dually.

by:

The camper tie-down hardware package will work well the hold-downs and they are also heavy duty constructed. I am well pleased with all the products I purchased from etrailer.com. They have excellent customer service and delivery.

by:

Seems to be good quality. Got these to replace my camper's rachet straps since they're less bulky, stronger, and allow me to tighten the camper down to my truck bed's D-rings better than the rachet straps (since with my particular truck and camper it was difficult to get the access and leverage to truly tighten them as much I wanted, and as a result the camper would drift during travel)

Got a big bump while off-road and two of the turnbuckles I was using in the rear snapped. I dont believe theyre actually 3000lb weight capacity. My trucks D rings are rated for 400lbs and theyre fine.

@Ben I am very sorry to hear that Ben. Hope everything else was ok! I am going to reach out to Brophy about this.

by:

So far so good! They fit my application well. I've only put on about 200 miles, but they've held up great so far!

by:

Good product worked well once installed. Did not fit quite right on my 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500. The stake holes have a plastic plug 3-4" down the inside. Handy for running wires through, but couldn't drill the mounting holes. Had to drill them at 4 1/2" into the metal bar across the bottom and tap the holes for a 1/4" bolt. Brophy needs to make these a half inch longer.

by:

Turn buckles where a bit too long for my needs and the way the camper mounted to my truck.

by:

I accidentally ordered this item while intending to purchase the Torklift frame-mounted tie down system which was ordered as well. As a result, the Brophy tie-downs remain brand new and unopened in the box. While I can’t give a fair rating on their performance or quality, I wanted to note that the packaging and delivery were handled well.

Unfortunately, I now have to decide what to do with this item, but that’s on me not the product. Just make sure to double check your order to ensure you’re getting the correct system for your setup.

by:

I do not like being told that this will work on what I had and did not fit at all.Now I have to pay the shipping back.Don't agree with it at all.Do not try to put these products on ford trucks

by:

Holds the camper down. These are replacements as one was damaged due to a deer collision.

by:

Very heavy duty much better than what I was going to do and find the parts at a big box store

by:

Was not pleased with the turn buckles. 2 of them twisted off with little use…..We had to replace them ourselves because it was cheaper for us to do it that way than return them ……would not recommend them

by:

Good quality and arrived when expected. Will have to buy more chain as it does not reach my hooks on the camper. My camper sits on a short bed truck is why. No fault of the product.

by:

They work great for our truck and camper thank you!

by:

Easy install, quality hardware, great fit for my camper/ 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab truck combo. I would recommend this company and it’s quality products . Safety is a big concern and these tie downs are as safe as can be.

Solid, quality

by:

Excellent product. Easy enough to install with simple tools. Much better than the expensive old way of doing it.

by:

Very easy to use

Perfect. Just as described. Thanks.

Cammy is the best. She helped me find what I needed for my 2000 Ford F250 Super Duty, and she made sure it arrived on the date I needed it. That doesn't happen too often. Very happy.

  • Can Brophy Stake Pocket Mounted Camper Tie-Downs Handle 3,000 lb Camper
Hi Adam, The Brophy Stake Pocket Mounted Camper Tie-Downs # TDSF don't technically have a weight capacity, though the turnbuckles they need, the Brophy Basic Turnbuckles w/ Hardware for Camper Tie-Downs # TDHP, have a 3,000 lb weight capacity. So if the camper is 3,250 lbs you'd need to go with a different option like HappiJac tie-downs. If you let me know the year, make, model of your truck as well as things like bed size, what hitch you have, and if you have running boards I can find...

  • Recommended Bed Mounted Camper-Tie Downs For A 2020 GMC Sierra 2500
Hey Jeff, The only bed-mounted camper tie-downs we currently offer for your 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 would be the Brophy Slide In Camper Tie-Downs # HSAB. These drop into the stake pockets and use "T-bolts" to press against the inside of the bedrails to lock the tie-downs in place. Since you have a 2020 model year you'll need the longer set of T-bolts # BR2007 to properly install the tie-downs. To complete your setup you'll also want a set of Brophy's turnbuckles # TDHP.

The Brophy Camper Tie Downs, part # TDSF can be used on campers that have a total length of up to 8 feet in length. The Brophy Camper Tie Downs, part # HSSF can be used on any size campers. There is no weight capacity rating on the camper tie downs and they will work for any camper size that is properly sized for your 2010 Ford F-150. The Brophy # TDSF mounts into the truck bed stake pocket, where as the Brophy # HSSF tie downs wrap around the bed, not in the stake pockets, and are mounted...

They sure will, Richard and a good morning to you too! The Brophy Stake Pocket Mounted Camper Tie-Downs item # TDSF will indeed work with your 1999 Dodge Ram 2500. These are specifically designed for 8' long campers. They're going to drop right down into the stake pockets at the top of your bed rails and give you an anchoring point to secure your in bed camper. • Which Brophy Camper Tie Downs Fit 2001 Toyota Tundra
For tie-downs that will work in your 2001 Toyota Tundra you will want the Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs # HSSF. Brophy has told us in the past that the # HSWB was intended for domestic trucks. These tie-downs are compatible with the turnbuckles # TDHP that you'd need to complete your camper tie down setup for your truck. This provides the connection from the tie down to the camper. Hi Joe; you do not have to have the TorkLift hitch to install their tie-downs on your 2022 Ram 3500. However, you will need some kind of hitch for these to work. Assuming you have a factory hitch and no running boards/cab length running boards you can use the TorkLift Tie Downs - Custom Frame Mount - Front and Rear # TL23NR. However, we do have the Brophy Slide In Camper Tie-Downs # HSAB you may be able to use. These are more of a universal application.
