Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

These Titan Chain diamond-pattern chains are great winter weather chains. If you live in an area where you're likely to get periodic snow and ice, these chains are perfect because they're durable and easy to mount. And they're lightweight and compact, so they store in your vehicle nicely too.

These chains are among the easiest and fastest to install because they have built-in tensioners that you can just pull taut to adjust the fit. These tensioners allow the chains to fit your tires, no matter the profile or wear pattern. And because the tensioners are built-in, you never have to worry about losing them like you might with other chains on the market.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's user manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Installing these chains is incredibly simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Slide chains behind the tire

2. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.

Make connections behind the tire

3. Connect the ends of the cable, which will sit behind the tire.

Attach green hook to yellow side chains

4. Around front, connect the 2 ends of the yellow side chain using the green hook at the top of the tire.

Feed tensioner through clips

5. At the bottom of the tire, feed the silver tensioning chain through the red channel bracket and pull it taut. Then run the tensioner through as many red clips along the side chain as you can, leaving room to still be able to stretch the hook across the tire.

Recheck tension

6. Attach the hook to the side chain directly across from the last clip you ran the tensioner through. The hook should face away from your tire. Pull your vehicle forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the tension.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 235/55-19 Tires on a 2022 Kia Carnival
The Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC1555 will not fit the 235/55-19 tires on your 2022 Kia Carnival but as an alternative we have the pewag Servo RS # PWRSV80A. If you're looking for something that is a bit more cost-effective then I recommend checking out the Titan Chain # TC1146. These have the D Links so they will do a good job at giving you traction, but they are in the ladder pattern which will be more noticeable than the diamond pattern of the chain mentioned above. We have similar tire cables to the Titan set you referenced that do fit your tire size of 225/60R18 like with the # PW1046 from Glacier but the # TC343DC would not fit. If you wanted my recommendation though I would go with the Konig Easy Fit chains part # TH04115245 since this provides the ultimate in traction, durability, and ease of install. These literally install in a matter of seconds and don't require you to roll around on the ground at all to install either. Check out the install...

  • Recommended Tire Chains for a 2025 Subaru Forester w/ 225/55 R18 Tires
Hey Mike, congrats on the new SUV. For cable style chains that fit 225/55 R18 tires you can use the Glacier Cable Tire Chains item # PW1042. The best tire chains for your 2025 Subaru Forester are going to be the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains item # TC1555. They do fit your 225/55 R18 tires and are also S class compatible, which means they'll work great in low clearance areas. You'll need at least 1.46" of clearance above your wheels and 0.59" between the tire's sidewall and your Subaru....

  • Recommended Tire Chains for a 5th Wheel Trailer w/ ST 225/75R15 Tires
Hey Charles. Tire chains on 5th wheel trailers are a bit of a gray area. It entirely depends on what kind of trailer you have and what the manufacturer says. There is benefit using them on braking axles but it's going to come down to how much clearance you have around your tires and what the manufacturer says. Tire chains are recommended by size of the tire not what kind of vehicle, or in this case trailer, they're on. For a ST 225/75r15, I recommend the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains item...

If you plan on taking a trip to an area with heavy snow or ice, it would be a good idea to bring a set of tire chains along for emergency situations. Using tire chains is not necessarily required, but they will help in hazardous conditions and there are even some areas that require the use of snow chains during certain times...

Hey Wayne, for the tire sizes of 225/60-18 and 225/65-17 that your 2020 Subaru Outback would have came with I would recommend the Konig Easy Fit Chains part # TH04115245 which install in a matter of seconds, provide great traction, and will last a very long time. If you were looking for something more budget friendly the part # TC1555 would be what I recommend. These also provide great traction but they are a little more involved to install and won't last quite as long.

  • Will Tire Chains For A 225/70R16 Tire Also Fit A 225/75R16 Tire?
Hi Doug! From looking at all the manufacturers we carry, and a few that we don't, you will need different tire chains for each tire in this case. The extra sidewall in the 225/75R16 tires does make them not the same as the options for the 225/70R16 tires. I have what I think are the best and a more economical (but still good) option for both sizes listed below: 225/70R16: Konig Easy Fit Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link - Self Tensioning - 1 Pair # th04115240 Titan Chain Snow...

  • What Tire Chains Can I Use On My 2025 Kia Carnival With 225/65/17 Winter Tires
Hey, Jonas! You could definitely use the Titan chains part # TC1555 on your 225/65-17 tires on your 2025 Kia Carnival. Since they are smaller you will have a bit more clearance like you mentioned in the wheel well. These chains are Class S which means the chain links are smaller to accommodate that low clearance. I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2016 Honda CR-V and did find where it is recommended to use SCC (Security Chain Company) TC2111MM chains for your 225/65R17 tires.
