Recommended Tire Chains for a 5th Wheel Trailer w/ ST 225/75R15 Tires

Updated 11/07/2025 | Published 11/02/2025

Question:

I need to purchase chains for my trailer ST 225/75r15 and I wanted to confirm the difference if and between vehicle or trailer chains. Could you provide any suggestions on what chains to purchase as a just in case set for a 10,000lb 5th wheel used only on the street.

Hey Charles. Tire chains on 5th wheel trailers are a bit of a gray area. It entirely depends on what kind of trailer you have and what the manufacturer says. There is benefit using them on braking axles but it's going to come down to how much clearance you have around your tires and what the manufacturer says. Tire chains are recommended by size of the tire not what kind of vehicle, or in this case trailer, they're on.

For a ST 225/75r15, I recommend the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains item # TC1555. These low profile chains have a diamond pattern so they will provide excellent traction. They are a drape over style so they'll be pretty easy to install. These chains require 15mm of internal clearance between the tire wall and trailer frame and at least 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well.

What year, make, and model is your 5th wheel trailer?

You can add this information and any other questions you have where it says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.

@CharlesC That's a nice setup! Congrats on the new 5th wheel trailer. I recommend reaching out to Jayco directly and getting their approval before using snow chains like item # TC1555.
