Question:
In an area where chains are required, however my owners manual says not to run chains. Could you advise if I could run a cable and /or chain system for my AWD Subaru? Tires size Bridgstone Dueller 225 65 / 17

When the law requires use of snow chains, it trumps the manufacturer. So in these cases, I recommend using Class S chains which are minimal clearance chains to give you traction and yet avoid issues with internal clearances.
For your 225/65R17 tires on your 2019 Subaru Outback, I recommend the Pewag Servo RS Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - 1 Pair # PWRS79. These chains will install easy and will require only 15 mm or .59 inches of internal clearance between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle itself.
If you want a more economical option, we have the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link - 1 Pair # TC1555. These are good chains that will be easy to install and provide you with decent traction. They have an integrated rubber tensioner to keep the chains tight.
If you want the best chains that require no additional clearance on the inner wheel well, the Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link - K-Summit XXL - Size K66 # TH02230K66 will not have any contact in that location. The chains sit on the tread of the tire only. These are your best option because they don't change the internal clearance at all and provide superior traction.
