Video Transcript for Rhino Rack Roof Rack Review - 2020 Honda CR-V

Hey, everybody. Today we're going to be going over and showing you how to install the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero crossbar system here on our 2020 Honda CRV.So here's what our roof rack system is going to look like installed. As you can see here, Rhino-Rack uses these nice aero-shaped crossbars, which are going to do a couple different things for us. Number one, the aero shape is really going to help cut down on wind noise. We're not going to have that whistling sound here with our crossbars. And, number two, we're not going to have near as much drag.

Therefore, we're not really going to have to worry about losing as many miles per gallon when we're driving out on the highway. So this particular system here is going to install on our CRV here with some door clips. We have these metal clips here, which are rubber coated, so they're not going to have to worry about scratching or dinging up the vehicle. But they're going to install inside the door jamb here, which is what secures the crossbars to the roof. It's nice and sturdy, and, again, all our parts are rubber coated here, so you don't have to worry about dinging or damaging the vehicle. So, right now, we have the black crossbars that Rhino-Rack offers. However, there's also a silver crossbar option as well, so whichever you're going to feel is going to blend in better with your vehicle, this is the route I recommend choosing. So adding a roof rack to your CRV, it's going to be an excellent option.

It's going to make our vehicle much more versatile. We're going to be able to set a cargo box up here if we need to free some space inside the vehicle, or we're going to be hitting the slopes, we need a place to carry our skis. We can also use these with a other wide variety of accessories, such as a cargo basket. We have bike racks that go up here as well as kayak racks. So if you're interested in any of these items, we have a large selection here at etrailer.

I definitely recommend you check these out.So, one thing I really like about the Rhino-Rack roof rack systems are they really give you some top-of-the-line features and a nice quality, affordable price. Number one, like most of the other top-of-the-line systems, we have integrated channels in the top of our crossbars. And what this does is it essentially makes it possible for using channel-mounted accessories, which are a little bit easier to attach than the wraparound ones that you may be used to. We're also going to get locking mechanisms on our crossbars and locking mechanisms on our mounting feet. Now, normally, the locking mechanisms for some of the other top-tier options, such as Thule and Yakima, these are actually sold separately, and they're not cheap, either.

But with the Rhino-Rack, we're going to get plastic locks for the crossbars, which prevent the encapturing being removed, and we're going to get metal locks here at the mounting feet all included with no added fee. Keep in mind, if you would like to opt for metal locks, you can replace the plastic locks in the crossbars with metal locks. Those are, however, sold separately. So, a couple numbers to go over with you. Number one, the length of our crossbars, it's going to be 54 inches, so we're going to have plenty of space for multiple rooftop accessories. In regards to weight, we're going to have a 165-pound capacity. So, again, we can really pile stuff on top of these crossbars without have to worry about any damage to our vehicle or the roof rack components. And, last, I like to give our customers a measurement, the distance from the top of the roof to the bottom of the crossbar. This may vary slightly from application to application, but we're going to get about three and three-quarter inches. So another question we get here at etrailer is they're wondering if they can open their sunroof with the roof rack installed. And as you're about to see, that's not going to be any issue at all for the system. There'll be no interference at all.So now that we've gone over some features, let's go ahead and jump into installation so we can show you how it's done. So the first part of our installation, we want to get our fit kit laid out in front of us, along with our mounting feet and our crossbar here. So the first thing we're going to do is we're going to take a look at the instructions for the fit kit, and they're going to give us a measurement that we need to cut this strip for. So, basically, we just have it in here now just as a reference, but, basically, we're going to cut this strip here to a certain measurement that they give us. We'll slide that all the way over here. And this measurement is essentially going to let us know how far inward we need to place our mounting foot. So that's going to be our first step.Once we get that done, we can begin assembling our mounting foot and get ready to install it on the crossbar. Now if you haven't already done so, we're going to need to remove the end cap on our crossbar here. In order to do that, it's super simple. You're going to get a little key that comes in our kit here, and we'll simply rotate this once we insert in to the unlocked position. We have locked and unlocked. And then we can just slide the end cap off.But now what we're going to do is we're going to take our pad here that comes with our fit kit. We're going to install this onto our mounting foot. Now we need to be careful, because these pads and our mounting feet are going to be labeled front and rear and left and right. So we need to make sure that we have the correct one, depending on which side of the vehicle we're working on and whether we're doing the front or back.So now what we're going to do is we're actually going to be installing our foot here on our rubber fit kit. You'll just simply press it down to lock it in place. Now we're going to take our metal door clip here. These aren't labeled side to side or front to rear, so it doesn't matter which one we grab. But if we take a look on the inside of our mounting foot here, we're going to see our little threaded nut. What we need to do is we need to place our fit kit in there like so, and then we're going to come back with our bolt here. We're just going to loosely thread that in. We should be able to thread it in by hand for now, but we're also going to have our tool in our kit here to tighten it down further when needed. So now we're going to pay attention to our little channel nut here. On the bottom of the side, we're going to have a hex screw. We're going to loosen this now to about the end of our threaded block here. We don't want to take it completely off. And then we're going to go ahead and slide our mounting foot with our fit kit attached into the channels here. We're going to stop here when we've reached our rubber strip. If you remember, we measured and cut that to the correct location according to our instructions. Now we may need to maneuver this little metal block here a little bit to get it to line up within our channels, but once we do, it's pretty easy. It just slides on. And then we're going to butt it up to our strip here, whatever that measurement was, and then we can go ahead and take our handle here. We're going to go ahead and tighten that down. We're going to be torquing it down as well. Now when it's going to be properly torqued, you can see our handle is actually bent now, that's going to straighten up when we reach the proper torque. And there we go.Now we're going to reinstall our end cap here. Simply press it into place. Use our little blue key here to turn it, and it should be locked now. We'll go ahead and repeat the same process on the other side of our crossbar here. So you can see we have our front crossbar already installed for you guys. And, basically, what we're going to be doing is we're going to get some measurements in our instructions again. We're going to get an A measurement, and we're going to get a B measurement. So our A measurement, we're going to take from the center of our door jamb on the B pillar here. We're going to measure forward the amount that they tell us to in our instructions. That's going to line up with the center of our crossbar, and that'll be for our A measurement. Our B measurement will then be from the center of the crossbar on the front one to the center of the crossbar on our rear one. So we'll use the measurements that come provided. And then what we'll do here, I've already done it for you guys, but go ahead and take a piece of tape and just mark out where the center of our crossbar needs to go. So now with our piece of tape in place, we know where we can set our crossbar assembly. We'll go ahead and lift it up now so we can set it into position. Now we'll take our crossbar assembly alignment with the mark that we've made. We're going to open up our door and loosely secure our fit clip.So I don't have this bolt completely tightened down. We've just snugged it up. We'll go ahead and jump onto the other side. We'll tighten that bolt there, and then we'll come back here and torque this one down. So now once we have both of our bolts torqued, we can take our locking end cap. You're going to see two tabs here. We'll line up with the tabs in our mounting feet, press it into place. We'll take our key here, and we can lock it to secure it. I'll repeat this process on the other side and for our forward most crossbar. And that'll do it today for our look and installation of the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero crossbar system here on our 2020 Honda CRV.

The roof rack is great. But the DK432 instruction doesn't fit my Ford Edge 2019 very well. The measurement strip length for front crossbar is about 160mm instead of 150mm, the measurement strip length for rear crossbar is about 150mm instead of 140mm.

Perfect fit. Thanks for the help. Complicated but easy assembly instructions. Haven’t carried kayaks yet. Will use “J” carriers mounted to roof rack.

First off, ordering and delivery couldn’t have been simpler. The flaps on one end of the box were open but luckily it was on the packing paper end of the box so nothing was lost. As for installation, I’m a computer guy and while I can get a job done with instructions, it normally takes me well longer than estimated. Not true with this rack... after an initial read through of the instructions it took less than 35 minutes to get it installed by myself. My ‘21 Toyota C-HR has drill outs for the feet to connect to so no measuring front/back was required which I believe saved a ton of time. Overall I couldn’t be happier... I head out to pick up m,y kayak next week for the maiden haul!

etrailer.com's videos and additional customer support made the purchase of a Rhino Rack system from them for our 2010 Malibu a no brainer. The rack fit the car perfectly, and with the videos and clear instructions that came with the kit, I got it installed on the car with only one misstep. The instructions came the the measurements in centimeters and inches. I didn't have a metric tape measure, and ended up messing up converting fractions to decimal. My Daughter is going to college 500 miles away and is moving into an unfurnished apartment and needed to pick up some small furniture that wouldn't fit in her Malibu. She purchased several items from Facebook Marketplace and was able to transport a twin bed and mattress, a medium sized desk and some dining room chairs (in several trips) with no problems. The only thing I can think of to improve the installation would be to have the Inches measurements in decimal or to include an inexpensive metric tape.

Comments
Still rock solid after a year. Very happy with the Rack. My daughter has used it from time to time over the past year when something wont fit in her car, and shes had no problems with it at all.

Good clear assembly and mounting instructions with helpful extras such as small stickers to identify mounting location for easy removal and re-installation of the racks. Trying Rhino-Rack since the other rack manufacturers didn't support my car anymore (always out of stock). The Aussies take their car trips very seriously (its a huge country with lots of places interesting to drive, but you've got to carry everything with you). The racks seem very solid. Time will tell (my other racks lasted 10 years).

Excellent product, with excellent quality. It fit my 2017 Nissan Sentra perfectly. The construction of the product is made to last many years, while offering versatility and protection to my car. I bought the Roof Racks a year ago, to be able to transport construction materials, since I did not have a Truck. And it has been one of the best purchases or investments made. I really recommend it. Satisfaction is guaranteed.

Wonderful roof rack. Used it to haul bikes, camping gear, a windsurfer and more! I have it on a 2017 Honda Civic Hatch and the only problem was actually with the car! The door seal on the car had become not so flexible, so when I'd close the door, it wouldnt seal around the hooks that grip the frame. I'd get leaking every time it rained. SO! In conclusion, great roof rack, make sure your car door seals / weather stripping is up to the task.

I purchased Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars with Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs (RRRLKVA) and Fit Kit (DK284) for my 2020 Honda CR-V EX Hybrid. The rack was easy to assemble and took about an hour. The only tool not supplied that you need is a sharp knife or scissors to cut the rubber strips to length. Once assembled, the installation took about 30 minutes, making sure to measure accurately for placement. I used blue painter's tape to initially mark the locations. I then placed the white marking arrows (supplied) to align with the marks on the tape. I then removed the tape, placed the racks aligned with the arrows, and tightened the clamps. This product seems well made and engineered (I'm a retired mechanical engineer). Kudos to Rhino-Rack and to etrailer for selling it.

The foot pads worked out at expected, for some reason I had trouble reading the instructions. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I just couldn't stay focused on what I was supposed to do. Maybe it's my old eyes or the size of the font, but once I downloaded the instructions on my computer and read it a few times, it was very very simple. The measurements for the footpads front/rear were perfect, though I did have to adjust the rear a bit to accommodate my cargo box but that's to be expected.

When we made our Chevy Equinox into our RV towed car we quickly found out we needed help from etrailer.com. From ebrakes and a baseplate to the tow bar and naked rook Rhino roof rack they were great to work with. I did all of the installation and most of it was easy. Some of it was harder so we relied on etrailer's great videos for things like installing the brake system and base plate. Everything is working great so kudos to etrailer!

2018 Honda HR-V

Been wanting to get a roof rack for my small Honda H-RV suv for some time now. Finally decided to pull the trigger on one and opted for this Rhino rack system. Watching the etrailer install video and following the manufacturer's instruction, the front rack went on easily and perfectly. However, the rear track turned out to be a very long process. Why? Because I thought the manufacturer's measurements for the rear was an error. After the rack was assembled, it didn't seat into the roof channel at all. It appeared to be well short. So, I proceeded to use my mechanical ingenuity to get this rack to fit on my own. After a lengthy span of time and numerous adjustments, I'd come to realize that the manufacturer's measurements were correct. The footing did not sit perfectly until the unit was fully tightened against the vehicle. Live and learn.....once again. The rack is absolutely solid, and looks very clean and sharp on top of the H-RV. I could not detect any additional noise while driving, even at highway speed. The main purpose of this roof rack was for transporting my recreational kayak. I was not aware that these bars had a rubber strip running along the entire top of the bar. This turned out to be perfect for the kayak. Now, I didn't need to buy a specific kayak cradle. The kayak, one strapped down, is held absolutely secured to the rack. I am very happy with this product! Once again, etrailer comes through perfectly with another of my order. Prompt service and indepth product info are the reasons why I shop here!

Right on kit for the roof racks

Honda

This review is for the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Aluminum-Silver crossbars and associated legs and custom fit kit (RRVA137s-2, DK284, RRRLKVA) necessary for a naked roof installation on a 2018 Honda CR-V. Just enter the model and year of your vehicle and etrailers website will tell you exactly what additional items are necessary to complete the install. etrailers installation instructions and videos are very helpful. The installation document provided is for more than one vehicle and for more than one style rack, so take your time to understand witch measurements apply to your installation and refer to the installation video if necessary. ON that note: The measurements given for front rack did not fit as nicely on the roof as the rear rack, I adjusted the the front rack measurements slightly. I would suggest trial fitting on your vehicle before cutting the metric rulers to final length. Stick On tags are supplied to indicate front, rear and the location to install on your vehicle. Once the rails are adjusted and tagged you can remove and reinstall the racks very quickly. Korren was very helpful in keeping me informed as to availability of items in stock and email shipping tracking. I am very satisfied with etrailers customer service and happy with the appearance and functionality of the Rhino racks.

Sleek, well built, seems very sturdy. Zero noise until around 60 mph and after that it's barely noticeable. The anti-theft features are nice, a screwdriver could break the lock but underneath is a recessed tamper resistant hex bolt.

I decided on the 65” instead of the recommended 59” for my 2018 F250 Crew. Before I did I called etrailer to confirm that the crossbar would be ok using the custom DK Fit and Rhino Rack 2500 series legs. The guy confirmed and I placed the order. Everything does fit and quality is great but all I received was measurements using the 59” bar. Something is different between these two bars and etrailer couldn’t help me out. I figured it out myself and determined the bracket distance on the bar so it fit properly. Rhino Rack should offer the proper bracket measurements for all 3 Areo Crossbars ( 59, 65 and 72 ) as they pertain to Ford F-250 “17” and up. They all fit - as bracket is in the same spot on the truck. Great quality solid rack. I’d give 5 star if it wasn’t for this

The racks fit perfectly! They are a great fit to my car. They don’t interfere with the sunroof’s operation. I assembled it on my own with no difficulty. It was easy to assemble. The directions it provides to you are easy to follow. The only down side was getting the plastic pieces to lock on the ends of the bars. Other than that they are great and they look great on my car! I plan to use them to transport kayaks! They are very sturdy and very trust worthy for transporting a couple of kayaks. I recommend these racks to anyone who has a 2016 or 2017 Nissan Altima!

Bought this rack to carry canoe, etc. while towing our camper. Installation is easy with one person so long as you take your time to get the original setup meticulously correct. If you're planning to put it on only occasionally when you're using it, it's 10 to 15 minutes for one person to install once the original setup is done and the clamp points marked with the little unobtrusive stickers they send with the kit. Originally planned to put it on only when using because we only really need it a couple times a year (we just throw the canoe in the back for local trips). Looks good enough we might leave it on all the time. Even thought I didn't know I needed it until I was already at the store, it certainly came in handy bringing home a 10 foot long 2x8 on a rainy day when I needed to keep the bed cover closed. etrailer's service was prompt and flawless as always.

Comments
After a year, still works perfectly. No problems with clamp slippage or anything else over time.

For the square bar system order parts # TH712100, # TH710501 and # TH145043. All of these options are for the hatchback...

  • Will the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero System Fit a 2018 Honda Fit with Sun Roof
Yes, the Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs for Vortex Aero Crossbars part # RRRLKVA will fit your 2018 Honda Fit with a sun roof. However, Rhino-Rack does not recommend opening the sun roof with the rack installed. In order to complete your roof rack setup you will also need the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars part # RRVA118B-2 and the Custom DK Fit Kit for 4 Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack Legs part # DK438. The above system will provide you with a quality, well made roof rack that has...

  • Can Spacing of Rhino Rack Roof Rack for 2016 Chevy Colorado be Adjusted
With naked roof roof rack installs like the Rhino Rack # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK330 you have installed you have to stick with the recommended crossbar spacing. This spacing is where the roof is reinforced the best to carry the weight so if you move the rack around it's possible you could damage the roof.

  • Aero-Style Roof Rack for 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan with Moonroof
We have lots of choices for a roof rack for your 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan that has a naked roof and moon roof feature and you can see all of them on the linked page. In general people find that the noise created by any roof rack tends to make it a better idea to keep the moon roof closed. Some racks do allow the moon roof to open but the items you might choose to mount to a roof rack, such as a bike or cargo carrier, could interfere with the opening/closing of the moon roof so it really...

  • Rhino-Rack Roof Rack Compatibility with 2 Stand Up Paddleboards on 2016 Honda Fit
On your 2016 Honda Fit, the Rhino-Rack roof rack consisting of # RRVA118B-2, # RRRLKVA, and Fit Kit # DK438 are a confirmed fit. This rack is rated for 165 lbs and has a 29.5 inch crossbar spread. This rack will allow you to carry two paddle boards when you use an appropriate carrier. I recommend the Inno Locker Watersport Carrier w/ Crossbar Pads - Locking - Clamp On - 1 Boat or 2 Boards # INA446. This carrier has a locking design to secure your paddle boards once they are mounted...

  • Roof Rack Recommendation for a 2009 Mazda 5 that uses the Factory Fixed Mounting Points
I have exactly what you are looking for. You can use the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars, # RRVA118B-2 for black or # RRVA118S-2 for silver with the 2500 Series Leg Kit, # RRRLKVA, and the Custom DK Clamps and Pads, # DK285. I have attached a demonstration video of this roof rack on a similar vehicle to give you an idea on how it installs. Before loading any cargo on your roof, I recommend checking your owners manual or with your local Mazda dealer to verify the weight capacity...

  • Roof Rack for a 2018 NO BO 19.7 Travel Trailer
I did some checking and the 2018 NO BO 19.7 uses Rhino-Rack roof rack components as part of their option Overlander Package on the 19 series. The bars themselves are # RRVA180B-2 for a pair. The feet it uses are track mount feet. What I do not know is if the roof already has the tracks or if those are also needed to add the rack. It might be a bit of a chore to check but if you see tracks at the back of the roof then you would not need to add them separately. If it does not have the...

  • Needed Tools and Level Of Difficulty to Install Rhino Rack Roof Rack on 2014 Honda CR-V
The only tool necessary would be a specialty allen wrench, which is included with the # RRRLKVA Rhino Rack roof rack foot kit. Other than that, you simply need the crossbars # RRVA137B-2 and fit kit # DK284. The installation is pretty simple. If you click the link I've provided, you can see one of our product demonstrators installing a rack on a 2015 Honda CR-V. The procedure for your 2014 CR-V would be identical. As you'll see, the procedure isn't difficult at all.

  • Recommended Roof Rack for 2018 Mazda 3 with Factory Mounting Points
For your 2018 Mazda 3 I highly recommend the Yakima JetStream Roof Rack. This system consists of the two 50 inch JetStream Crossbars in either Black Aluminum # Y00425 or Silver Aluminum # Y00428, the SkyLine Towers # Y00148, and the Landing Pad # Y00248. The Landing Pads and Towers for this system are made to mount directly to those factory points you mentioned on your 4-Door Mazda 3 and its low-profile design will provide a sleek appearance along with contributing to an extremely quiet...

  • Recommended Roof Rack System For 2010 Acura MDX With Naked Roof
Since your 2010 Acura MDX has a naked roof without roof rails, your only options would be an OEM roof rack as you mentioned, or the aftermarket roof racks which would need to attach to the door jam. This may seem like a flimsy or strange design, but it is very common with any vehicle that has a naked roof and it works very well. For your vehicle, I recommend going with the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars 54" which are low-profile aerodynamic bars. These will be quiet and have less...

  • Rack System for 2006 Honda Ridgeline
The Yakima OverHaul HD uprights you referenced will not fit a 2006 Honda Ridgeline, and while there are roof racks that fit your '06 Ridgeline, there are unfortunately no ladder racks that fit this truck. There is a quality option for a roof rack, and I recommend checking out an option from Rhino-Rack because these have the same quality as the name brands like Yakima or Thule while being a more cost-effective option. For a 2006 Ridgeline with a naked roof you will need the Rhino-Rack...

  • Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs for Vortex Aero Crossbar Compatibility with Thule AeroBlade
Although the Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs are very similar to the Thule foot packs, the tab that fits into the Thule AeroBlade load bars is slightly too big and the grooves on the 2500 Series Leg do not sit flush with the AeroBlade load bar. I went out and tested them together myself. If you already have the Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs # RRRLKVA, then for a complete roof rack on your 2014 Infiniti Q50 you will just need the Vortex Aero Crossbars, part # RRVA118S-2 for Silver or part...

Cross bars rated for 165 pounds, but check you owner's manual for roof weight rating. Many customers additionally purchase the Rola # 59315 lock set to help deter theft of the cross bars. The Inno # INB127 features 50" square steel crossbars. You will additionally need the # INXP feet and # INTR124 fit kit. Like the Rola,...
