by:

Incredibly easy to install and adjust for a perfect fit. If you’re at least 5’9” you will have no issue hoisting your kayak up onto the rack. The rotation makes this very easy. Absolutely no noise while driving. Secure, tough — I’m very pleased and would recommend this product to anyone!

by:

They fit well and I feel my Kayak is safe tied down correctly.

by:

After attempting to mount the individual rack pieces using the “burglar proof” button head screws with the pin in the recess and the short hex wrench with the hollowed out end I discovered that no real burglar would want the rack but would rather have the kayak so the first thing I did after spending 10 minutes trying to insert the hex into the button head screws with the pin inside the recess and attempting to turn the bolts and continually being obstructed by the support pieces and the paint interference on the bolt heads with trying to get the wrench into the recess I knew it was going to be a long frustrating process so I threw them away and purchased new button head stainless steel bolts and a 4mm extended handle hex wrench to turn them. Smartest thing I ever did. You not only have to mount the rack initially but then you have to put the kayak on the roof and remount all pieces again to fit your boat. All kayaks are different to one degree or another. Having to move the individual support and retighten them with the boat on the rack is even more difficult to do than the initial mounting with these “burglar proof” bolts and hex wrench and you will be happy you threw them away before you started the entire process. Try it for yourself at first and then go get the alternate ones. Worth the little investment and stainless steel will not rust away when you want to remove the rack system in the future.
Once the rack is on your vehicle and kayak in rack the tie downs supplied are very good quality. Make sure you use the recommended tie down locations and directions, two kayak body ties and ties at front and rear.
Due to numerous kayak hull designs it would be nice to have each support pod have a horizontal swivel built into it so it readily conforms to the hull shape.
The overall quality of the system should be the last rack you will have to purchase. I only had issues with the supplied bolts and hex wrench.
I gave this rack system a three star because of the bolts and hex tool and the individual pods not swiveling and I haven't at this point transported the kayak anywhere so I am waiting to see how it handles long trips with wind loads and constant loading and unloading performances.

by:

So far so good. Delivered quickly and damage free. Have yet to mount a kayak, but it seems solid so far.

by:

I love these kayak racks. Just got my second pair because I loved the first set so much. The straps are much better than most. They give you plenty of length. I cut mine to fit my needs because there was a lot of excess. Installation was easy with the provided hardware. Thanks Rhino Rack for such a great, well thought out product.

by:

These racks were super easy to assemble! My only complaint was that the measurements were off for my body style. Instructions had specs and measurements for a 2015 fit, but I have a 2017 Fit EX. This was fixable, I just added 2cm to each side when installing the crossbars to the legs, and it fit my roof perfectly.

by:

I have a pretty big kayak to begin with, it holds it perfectly. Recently , i strapped a smaller kayak on top of mine. I was expecting the worst on this trip. But did not have a problem at all. Quality product.

by:

I thought I ordered the RR580 which locks into the channel. I am pleased with the RR570, seems very sturdy and holds my kayak very well. Also they make ZERO noise even at highway speeds!

by:

Love the product. Can't wait to take our new tandem kayak out.
etrailer is fast, efficient and has great prices. I'm also a fan of their efforts to provide good customer service by seeking customer feedback.

by:

Works great. I’m 5’6” and the pivoting cradles make for easy loading and off loading. I do need a stepping stool to install the carrier on the roof rack.

All Rhino-Rack products were excellent. But I was afraid to tighten them up too much and risk breaking them on the tubular Darby single bar roof rack. They kept sliding outboard due to the downward pressure of the kayak. So I put a towel between the bottom of my lightly built kevlar kayak and the bar. The kayak wasn't held up by the Rhino brackets but was safely held from moving side to side, and the towel protected the bottom of the boat...10 hour road trip with some potholes, no damage.

Have only used it once for carrying my kayak. See my previous comment. Now my kayak sits comfortably in the Rhino-Rack cradles fastened to my floating dock. All is covered by a fitted tarp, so theres no water in the boat or sun damage to the boat or cradles. So easy and safe to launch and retrieve a lightly constructed kevlar boat!

by:

Great product, have used multiple times in the last two weeks and haven't found a flaw yet.

6/23/2015

Willi h. I have not used the bow and stern tie downs and have had no issue my kayak, it is 11 ft may be necessary with a longer unit but Im not sure, hope this helps

by:

It takes quite a bit of tightening to be stable and not move around. Basically, you need to tighten until the bottom plastic strap conforms to your crossbar and you can torque no more. Once I got that set up and the position of the cradles matched to my kayak I was able to transport the kayak 800+ miles over the highway with no issues. The provided cam straps were all that was needed to complete the job.

by:

These kayak carrier saddles cup the bottom of my kayak. They are easy to install and clamp to the rails firmly. The tie downs that are included to secure kayak to the rails have no metal to scratch vehicle or kayak. The bow and stern tie downs are plenty long to give you options as to where to attach to vehicle.

Still love how these carriers cup and mold to the bottom of my kayak. Once secure, kayak stays put.

by:

The carrier generally works well and I like that you can flip the carrier toward you if putting the kayak up from the side of the vehicle and then flip kayak and carrier to the mounted position.
It's more difficult to mount the kayak from the rear of the vehicle. The carrier's rubber surface does not allow an easy slide up from rear to front, at least not for a fiberglass/gel coat hull. I actually installed two felt pads on the rear carrier to allow me to slide the kayak forward and this seems to work.
Otherwise the carrier works well.

The rack attaches to the cross bars with Allen head type screws. This is no problem if you leave the rack on the crossbars but can be difficult if you frequently remove the rack.

This rack is working great. I highly recommend it.

by:

Exactly what we ordered!

by:

Everything was excellent from start to finish. Geoffrey was very helpful on the phone and helped guide me in the selection of the appropriate kayak accessory for my specific crossbars. The order came quickly (about 4 days) and it was relatively easy to attach to my crossbars. I transported my kayak easily and without drama. The product is high quality and looks like it will be durable and have be useful for a long time.

I installed the Rhino-Rack 570 on a Toyota 4Runner with Toyota factory crossbars. The saddles fit well and are used to carry a 10'3" sit-on-top fishing kayak using the four included straps.

by:

Very good racks, they stay on my roof very securely and I've not had any problems since installing them last year. Also, very easy to install, took less than 30 minutes . I highly recommend them, good quality roof racks at a very affordable price.

Have not removed them since I had them installed last year. The racks went through all kind of rough weather and still stay secured on my roof with no sign of deterioration, tough and durable roof racks.

by:

This is a very sturdy rack. It fits great on my car and it's easy to use.
My only issue was with the original installation. The instructions had an error with the placement of the rack feet on the crossbar. I used the dimensions given in the manual but they were off by 10 cm. I had to adjust the feet in 10 cm on each side of the crassbar for the feet to sit correctly on the roof of my car. A very minor issue.
Overall, a great rack system. The single kayak kit was easy to install and works like a charm.
Thanks Rhino Racks!!!!!

by:

I'm transporting a 17' surf ski on my station wagon. The Rino-Rack side loading carriers clamp down on my aero bars like they are one piece. The boat locks in solid and I have no movement after hours of travel on rough roads. I rear load on my truck racks, but side loading is mush easier on the car. Etrailer is unbeatable for price and shipping.

I bought the Rhino Rack kayak carrier a couple of months ago and finally got to use them this week. We took a 200 mile round trip to our favorite lake. These racks are amazing and performed flawlessly. They ar so well designed and the thought of everything. We just bought a second kayak and I will be purchasing my second set soon.

by:

I love these little guys! I used them for the first time this weekend. I have a sprint kayak and they cradled my boat perfectly! I have been paddling for over 40 years and this was the first time I tied down my boat and felt really sure that it was going to ride securely on top of my SUV. They mounted super easily onto my factory roof racks on my GMC Yukon XL, just 8 screws total. I highly recommend this carrier for anyone who wants to protect their kayak while traveling!

Your best bet is actually the saddle mounts. Unfortunately, there's no good J-Style racks that are locking and will have the weight capacity for your kayak.
