Are there Adapters Available for Rhino Rack Nautic 581 Kayak Saddles?

Updated 06/27/2026 | Published 06/23/2026

Question:

I have Rhino Rack Nautic 581 kayak saddles that mount on the Aerobar channels. I just got a new vehicle that came with a roof rack, without the channel. Is there such a thing as an adapter to allow the saddles to clamp on to the rack?

Good question Kathy, thanks for reaching out!

Rhino-Rack Nautic 581 # RR581 is designed to mount specifically to crossbars with a C-channel slots. Unfortunately there isn't an adapter available for the saddles.

So, since your new roof rack has crossbars without a top channel, you'd want Rhino-Rack's clamp on version, the Nautic 570 # RR570. This model is designed for that style of crossbar instead.

Congratulations on the new vehicle, What style of Kayaks do you have?

Would the Nautic 570 work as a rear-loading system? It is described as side-loading.

@KathyC Technically the saddles are not designed for rear loading but yes, you could load a kayak from the rear if you wanted to.

@KathyC I use my 581 rubber ones for rear loading. I find the felt- covered paddle- like horizontal saddle did not grip the nose of my kayak upon sliding it up , and i like the way the rubber ones contour to the shape of the boat better. The rubber is firm enough to not be that sticky, and I am able to slide the whole kayak up just fine ; the vertical grip conforms better to the kayak's underside, whereas the kayak otherwise just sits on top the felt horizontal paddles.
