Hi Etrailer team, We have a 2016 Ford Explorer with the double sunroof/moon roof. We just bought 2 Kayaks and wanted to put them on the roof but we found out the roof rating is only 45lbs for our model. Our Kayaks are 10ft long and weigh 55lbs each so 110lb total. So I’m trying to figure out if I can do some combo of a hitch T bar or some mix of a hitch and a back bar roof rack set up to make it work? Let me know if I have any safe options here?

I have just what you need to carry two kayaks on a 2016 Ford Explorer. In order to maintain the roof weight capacity you will indeed need to carry most of the weight on the hitch with the Rhino-Rack T-Load Hitch Mounted Load Assist part # RTL002. Then you can support the bow/stern directly on the roof with a roof rack like the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbar System part # RRVA137B-2, part # RRRCH4, part # RRRCP45-BK.
