Video Transcript for Roadmaster 80 inch Coiled Safety Cables Review

Hi there flat towers. Today we're going to be taking a look at Roadmaster's 80 inch coiled safety cables. Your safety cables are one of five main components you'll need when flat towing your vehicle. In addition to the safety cables, which is a supplemental connection between your motor home and your vehicle, you'll also need your tow bar which is the main connection between your motor home and your vehicle. You'll need your base plate, which is the connection point installed on your vehicle for your tow bar to attach to. Your diode wiring or magnetic lights where you can transfer all of your lighting signals from your motor home back to your vehicles so people behind you will know your intentions when going down the road.

And lastly, your supplemental braking system which will help you stop your vehicle because the brakes will apply in the vehicle when you apply the brakes in your motor home. This ADM set of safety cables is a heavy duty set of safety cables with a weight capacity of up to 10,000 pounds. That makes these cables suitable for pretty much anything that you're planning on flat towing. Whether it be a small vehicle like our mini here or something large like a Ram truck. Coiled cables are a great option if you don't have any cable management on your flat tow setup because the coil will keep tension on the cable, keeping it up off the road. So this way as you're going down the road, your cables aren't dragging and wearing through the vinyl coating.

Our cables are constructed of a braided aircraft grade galvanized steel, and they're coated in a red vinyl that's going to protect them from any road debris or abrasions it might get occasionally bouncing up against your tow bar.The location on our cable where it connects to our hook has been reinforced, you can see how thick that steel is around there. And this also provides a good channel here for movement, so our cables can easily flex, which will extend the life of the cable cause we're not causing bends in the cable, we're allowing the metal to just slide and flex. The hooks located at the end of each safety cable are constructed of a drop forged steel and feature spring loaded latch that ensures your cable's not going to come disconnected. While we do have hooks on each end, the hooks are rather large because they're so heavy duty, so also included with your safety cables, you'll receive two of these C-shaped hooks that lock into place. So if you have real tight space like here, this is kind of difficult to get this large cable into this small hole here, but we can take our hook off and then to make it more accessible we can place the C-shaped hook on, tighten it down, and then connect our hook right onto that. And this makes it much easier to get these large hooks connected when you've got limited space. When you're connecting your safety cables, you want to make sure that you cross your cables side to side to create a cradle underneath your components.

So I've got them hooked up to our vehicle side here, this is the passenger side cable so I'm going to extend it out and I'm going to hook it to the driver's side on our hitch. And now we'll hook up our other cable, which is connected to the driver's side on the vehicle we'll attach it to the passenger side on our hitch and you can now see that this cross here has created that cradle. So in the event that we had a catastrophic disconnect, our components would be caught by these cables and keep them up off the road. Without that, it's possible that the components could fall down and dig into the concrete, which could result in further damage. And that completes our look at Roadmaster's 80 inch coiled safety cables..

Just what I was in the market for, great guality and Etrailer was the only one I could find the 80" lenght.

by:

etrailer went out of their way to make sure I was satisfied. Evidently a part was missing from one of the boxes they shipped, probably a shipper issue. They immediately shipped me replacement parts. Highly recommended and great communications.

by:

They work as the should.

by:

I love how prompt these folks always are in getting orders out. Once again I needed these parts ASAP and they came through quickly as they always do.

by:

Pulled entire length of route 66 and then some. We had absolutely no issues with all of our etrailer equipment. Thanks for all of your help.

by:

Fast delivery

by:

I changed to a different hitch which included safety chains. E-trailer made returning them simple and easy.

by:

Order was immediately processed according to the rapid email reply. The product was above my expectations, for the price, and the delivery was sooner than I had planned. Good on-line seller to deal with.

We needed longer coiled safety cables and found them on etrailer. They were shipped quickly and we received them a day before we left on vacation. They were exactly as advertised and packed nicely. Highly recommend etrailer.com.

by:

We use these Road master safety cables with our Class A RV and toads. They hold up well and are easy to deploy. Their natural coiling makes them easy to stow.

by:

I asked a question about towing straps and my question was answered in a timely fashion. I subsequently ordered fro etrailer and have received my product when I was told it would arrive. It only took 3 days. My husband and I are very happy with our purchase. We would certainly recommend etrailer.com to our friends!!

by:

INCREDIBLE. What is wrong with this company? One item in my order was on back order with the manufacturer so they called me and asked if I wanted the other items of my shipment to be shipped and the manufacturer would ship directly to me when it was available. I called them back with a concern after a couple of days and Craig communicated with me via email and actually took time to call me to inform the manufacturer actually had my item in stock and it was already shipped. If more companies would learn from etrailer on how to provide customer service, this world be a much better place. THANK YOU

by:

I feel very secure with these safety cables. They hook up very easily.

by:

Hooks are large and coiled cable is much easier to use than straight cables. Would buy again.

by:

Hooks are a little on the large side for the brackets on the car so it takes a bit of fusing with to attach them. Other than that, they work fine.

by:

After one year of use and multiple trips, I have had no issues at all. Works great in my 2020 Jeep Gladiator.

by:

Excellent, high-strength safety cables at cost competitive pricing. Very satisfied, thank you.

by:

I’ve ordered from etrailer several times. Every single time the customer service is outstanding and the products are as expected. Fast delivery too!

by:

Good product and solid and smooth transition while towing.

by:

Great product from etrailer and their customer service top notch.

by:

There were mechanical problems in the shipment but it still got to me on the promised delivery date. Product worked well with no issues.

by:

I received all of my parts from e-trailer. Very fast service, got them in about 3 days.

The Roadmaster BlackHawk 2 All Terrain # RM-422 does not come with safety cables. You would need The Roadmaster 80 inch Coiled Safety Cables - Double Hook - 10,000 lbs - Qty 2 # RM-653. I have attached a review video link below.

  • Would 68 inch Coiled Safety Cables be too Short If they Stretch Out When Installed
As long as the cables have enough slack built into them so that you can make tight turns without issue the cables you have would work just fine. If they get so tight that the attachment points look strained or the cable is totally straightened (since it's coiled) it would be too short. Otherwise we have an 80 inch Roadmaster coiled cable, part # RM-653.

  • Safety Cables to Flat Tow a Jeep Liberty Behind an RV
The safety cables I recommend the most are # RM-643. They are coiled but stretch out to 68 inches. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground. If you want to go longer I recommend # RM-653. These are 80 inches long.

The Roadmaster 80" Coiled Safety Cables - Double Hook part # RM-653 has a capacity of 10,000 lbs as a pair. They are designed for flat towing a vehicle. If you need more weight capacity in a cable, I recommend Demco coiled safety cables part # DM9523003 which can handle 14,000 lbs.

  • Can the Sterling Tow Bar Safety Cables be Used with Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plates
There is a way to use the safety cables that come with the Sterling tow bar # RM-576 with Roadmaster EZ5 base plates such as # RM-524431-5 for the 2017 Ford F-150. The Sterling cable anchors must be attached to the frame of the towed vehicle or welded to the receiver portion of the base plate brackets. A professional welder could perform this task for a nominal fee. The other option is to not use the included cables and instead use separate coiled cables such as # RM-653.
