This Comfort Ride suspension upgrade system greatly improves your towing experience. It serves as an add-on for your leaf spring suspension, and it provides a notably smoother ride, reducing chucking, axle roll-up, and suspension rebound. This means that you'll experience improved handling, even over potholes and uneven pavement. And the contents of your trailer will stay in place during travel.

Gas Shocks Absorb Road Vibration

While traditional leaf springs support your trailer to prevent bottoming out, they don't necessarily provide a comfortable ride. Due to the rigidity of the steel construction, leaf springs do a poor job of absorbing shock and bounce and limiting sway.

Roadmaster Comfort Ride shocks

Adding these shocks to your existing leaf spring suspension offers a better solution. Gas-powered springs inside of the sealed cylinders compress and extend as you drive. The compression and extension of the springs creates enough force to offset the amount of incoming force or vibration that occurs when you tow over rough or uneven terrain. The result is a more comfortable towing experience.

Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers installed

Many trailers will have shocks mounted at around a 40-degree angle, but this positioning doesn't compensate very well for the up-and-down movement of the trailer's suspension. Roadmaster's patented adjustable frame brackets are specifically designed to allow these shocks to be mounted at an optimum angle between 20 and 40 degrees. As a result, these shocks will have the leverage necessary to limit up-and-down and lateral movement during both compression and rebound.

Rigorous Testing Standards

The Comfort Ride shock absorber system has endured rigorous testing to ensure its durability and longevity. This testing includes computerized Finite Element Analysis, which establishes guidelines to ensure superior product quality and safety. Roadmaster also tested these shock absorbers at the Navistar Proving Grounds, a private test facility that provides real-world handling and safety testing. The result is a safe, long-lasting product that you can trust.

Installation

Installation of the Comfort Ride system is fairly straightforward.

The included tie plates replace your existing U-bolt tie plates. You will need to retain your existing U-bolts and nuts for installation. Once the tie plates are installed, bolt the upper mounting brackets to your trailer's frame with the included hardware. Some drilling is required when mounting the brackets to the frame. Finally, attach the shocks between the tie plates and the frame brackets.

  • Recommended Cushioned Equalizer Replacement Options For Factory Equalizer 6" Wide and 4" Tall
I understand your worry Tom, and I have a couple recommendations. First is the MORryde ALLTREK 4000 Shock Absorbing Equalizers # MR89DR which has a height of 4-1/2" for the mounting bolts. This is also 6-1/2" in width like the shorter Equalizer # MR87ZR and don't worry the additional width as the shackle straps will accommodate for the difference. If you chose either the shorter MORryde or Road Armor # LC696740 you may be able to switch to a shorter shackle strap. If you have the longer...

  • Lookiing To Upgrade Axles On 2015 Keystone Cougar 33RBK
Hello Rene, thanks for reaching out. It is pretty typical for RV manufacturers to use axles that are not rated for the full GVWR. They say this is because 10%-15% of the camper weight is on the hitch instead of the axles. They will put the bare minimum axle on there to save on costs. Very typical in the RV industry these days sadly. It is possible to use a higher rated axle. For the 86-1/2" axles we have a 6,000 lb option. We offer it fully loaded with brakes and 6-lug hubs as part #...

  • Will the Bolt-On Shock Kits for Trailers Work With Underslung Axles
I do have an option for you but the Lippert Components Bolt-On Shock Kit like part # LC281281 is designed for use on overslung axles (leaf springs over axle) only. Therefore, it should not be used with the underslung (leaf springs under axle) axles that you have. The reason for this is that the shock absorbers would not be long enough and there could be interference with the axle tube. Instead, I recommend using the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers part...

Hey Patrick, so for your leaf spring upgrade I am going to need to know a couple of things before I can get you over to the right part. Specifically, the length from eye to eye, the spring width, leaf thickness, and the number of leaves. From here I can go ahead and look for a possible upgrade, and be sure that it'll fit into place. For a suspension upgrade kit, we don't have any SumoSprings that will work for you but we do have the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle...

Hey Ryan! Those systems are quite different. The Timbren Silent Ride Suspension for Tandem Axle Trailers w/ 3" Round Axles item # TSR10KT02 is a complete replacement option. It takes away your entire leaf spring set up and requires you to mount your axles directly to it. The installation process in extremely in-depth. You have to remove all of your current suspension components including hangers, you'll need to install a hollow 2" x 4" steel crossmember, and your current axle seats have...

  • Determining Correct Axle Upgrade For 2018 Grand Design Imagine Travel Trailer
I would be happy to make a recommendation for upgraded axles and suspension components for your 2018 Grand Design Imagine 2670MK, but first I will need a few measurements from your current components. Starting with the axle you will need to measure your current axles from hub face to hub face and from spring center to spring center to determine the correct length the replacement axle would need to be. For example the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles - 89" Long - 5,200 lbs...

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement System for Keystone Bullet 220RBI with 42 Inch Axle Spread
If you want to replace your equalizer with an integrated suspension enhancement, you will need to update other components within your system for the correct fit. This will most likely require repositioning your axle hangers if you wish to use that style system. The better option for your suspension enhancement is to add shocks to your axles instead of using a cushioned equalizer. This is a much better way to assist with your suspension and will function with your current setup. I recommend...

  • How Should The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shocks Mount The The Trailer Frame
Hi Ray, The Comfort Ride Shocks # RM-2460 just need to sit within a 20 to 40 degree angle, with 30 degrees being the most preferred. Having installed this system myself numerous times I can say Shane was probably just guessing the placement when holding it up to talk about how to install the shock and then behind the scenes figured out how it needed to sit to achieve the required angle. When I did this install I brought in my angle finder and used to it get within the range needed. I've...

  • Which Roadmaster Comfort Ride Kit Fits 2023 Jayco North Point 310RLTS
Hey George, I looked up the GVWR of your 2023 Jayco North Point 31RLTS and found it to be 15,460 lbs which makes me think that what your trailer has is 8k axles. Which if that is the case the correct Roadmaster Comfort Ride is the part # RM-2460-2580 which is for 3 inch diameter axles. This is the complete kit for everything you'd need. It looks like your question may have had a word drop off though, did you maybe mean to say drop axle or something?

The correct Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers will be choose based on the axle diameter. Therefore, if you have a 3" diameter axle tube you will need to use part # RM-2460. The shocks between the 3,500 lb and 5,200 lb to 7,000 lb systems are the same, the brackets are what is different.

Hi Ronald; a search points to that being a 7k axle but I don't have a way to be sure without the serial number off of the axle tag. You can also measure your axle diameter which is enough to find the right kit. If you have a 3" diameter overslung axle (leaf springs on top of the axle) the # LC281281 is the correct kit. If it is a 2-3/8" overslung axle you need # LC281255 instead. If your leaf springs run under the axle the only option is the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers. These...

  • Replacement Leaf Springs, Wet Bolts, And A Comfort Ride Shock System For A 2016 Keystone Montana
Hi Jay, There unfortunately isn't a guide to tell us what leaf springs are on your trailer so you'll need to measure the length of your current springs and check the axle for its capacity. To measure you'll need to lift one side of trailer by the frame and let the axles hang. Then you'll measure from the center of one eyelet to the center of the other eyelet. That length along with the axle capacity will tell us what you need. For the wet bolts we'll also need to know the length not...

  • Best Trailer Suspension Upgrade For Under $1,000

However, with the fully loaded weight being right at 11,000 pounds, you most likely have 5,200 to 7,000 pound axles and the picture I found showed the axle under the leaf springs (overslung). Thanks for the purchase of the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2299, and those along with an Air Ride pin box like the Trailair # LC158778 put you very much ahead of the game in terms of towing comfort. But as far as psi in the air bags, there really isn't a recommended level. You should really just experiment to see what the most optimal setting is for you, though I will say 10 psi is pretty low. I think it would probably be a good idea to pump that psi up to see if it makes...

  • Leveling System Recommendation for 5th Wheel Trailer
Hey Dan, thanks for reaching out! I believe the jacks and extensions you're talking about in the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers # RM-2460 install video is part of a 5th wheel leveling system similar to the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 # LC675817. It looked like that was a hydraulic system while this is electric, and as long as your 5th wheel doesn't exceed a GVWR of 15,500 lbs you can definitely use this system! Let me know if you end up having any other questions!
