Features to know about

Restore Confident Stopping Power: Hydraulic 12" Brake Assemblies for 5,200-7,000 lb Axles

If your old brakes are dragging or just not doing their job anymore, these 12" hydraulic drum brake assemblies are a solid fix. They’re built for surge-type hydraulic systems and come ready for both left-hand and right-hand sides. The single-plunger, uni-servo design gives balanced braking with plenty of torque. Sized at 12" x 2", they fit most standard hub-and-drum setups on 5,200 lb, 6,000 lb, and 7,000 lb axles, and they work with 14-1/2", 15", 16", and 16-1/2" wheels.

Built Tough for Long Life: Bonded Automotive-Grade Friction Material

Each brake shoe uses custom-molded, automotive-grade friction pads that are fully bonded to the shoes instead of riveted. That means better contact and longer wear with less chance of cracking or crumbling under load. The tapered edges and circular grinding help keep engagement smooth and prevent mechanical lockup as the brakes wear in. It’s an SAE-N certified material that’s also environmentally safe for use across the U.S. and Canada.

Protected Against Rust and Road Grime: E-Coated Backing Plates and Sealed Adjuster Plugs

Moisture and debris can shorten the life of a brake assembly fast. These units fight corrosion with e-coated backing plates that resist rust and wear. The included adjuster plugs cover access holes to keep dirt out of the adjuster gears and off the friction surfaces, so you get consistent braking performance even in harsher conditions.

Dial In Your Brakes Precisely: Fine-Tooth Manual Adjusters

When you prefer to fine-tune your setup, these manual adjusters give you control over brake tension. The fine-tooth gears let you lock in precise settings, so you can get just the right amount of drag—enough to grip firmly without excess resistance. It’s a straightforward system that many DIYers like because it’s easy to check and adjust as needed.

Certified for Safety and Reliability: QAI and CSA Tested

These assemblies aren’t just built tough—they’ve been thoroughly tested by both QAI and the Canadian Standards Association to meet safety standards for braking performance. That testing covers real-world stopping distances and operation under load, giving you confidence that these brakes will hold up when it matters most.

The shipping was incredibly fast!
by:
Great great service ships super fasts
by:
Parts arrived on the date scheduled, the shipper for some reason couldn't find an address that they had delivered to before, this was not any fault of etrailer.com.
All parts fit exactly as they should have and now hopefully I will not have to fix someone else's neglect again, as shown in some of my pics. But if I do I will use etrailer.com.
Big thanks to Shawn for help above and beyond.

Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit arive good quality on time. Thanks.
by:
Delivered a day early, exact fit, good deal
by:
Arrived on time in good condition.
Disappointed that the backing plate was NOT pre-drilled for my wash down fittings (boat trailer).
by:
Items are of good quality and easy to install. I had to make a small adjustment on the 5 mounting holes on the backing plate to 7/16" in order to use the original bolts since no hardware is supplied with the kit. The best was that all other parts were already assembled and factory set which made installation fast and easy. Also, by using the kit the cost of the job was less expensive then replacing all of the individual parts. This was a win win-win for me. Thank you etrailer.
by:
they fit as they should. easy install .Had to replace all brake lines so replacing every thing made it easy and not to expansive.
by:
The brake plates came fast and was the exact match to what I had.

Easy way to replace old and worn out brakes. Arrived in a couple of days and comes assembled as pictured. Make sure you measure the width of the brake shoe pad and inside diameter of your drum to match up the correct ones.

by:
The brake assembly arrived quickly and was correct fit. The best thing about dealing with e-trailer was the associates knowledge. I will shop them first next time.
by:
Amazing value. Super fast delivery. Replaces the original AL KO for a fraction of the cost. I understand why so many folks recommended Etrailer to check with and order from.
by:

  • Looking For New Brakes And Hubs For Trailer With Hub Number 8-201
Hey Josh, thanks for reaching out. The part number from the drum helps a lot, but there are a few different versions of the 8-201 hub so you really just need to determine which one fits your application best. All 3 options I will list below use the same bearings so it boils down to the weight capacity and the inner diameter of the grease seal used: - Part - # 8-201-9UC3-EZ - 5.2K - 6K capacity and seal has ID of 2.125" - Part - # 8-201-5UC3-EZ - 5.2K capacity and seal has ID of 2.125" -...

  • How to Identify Brake Assembly for Triple Axle Boat Trailer
Hi Scott; I don't have a way of knowing the exact brakes you need, but I can help you figure it out. Based on the 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern you have 3,500 lb - 6,000 lb axles. I would look on the trailer axles to see if you can find an axle tag to identify them. The capacity is probably listed. but if you don't see it the manufacturer can identify it using the serial number. Assuming you're looking for hydraulic drum brakes you can use the etrailer Hydraulic Trailer Brakes - Uni-Servo -...

  • Troubleshooting A Hydraulic Drum Brake Assembly That Isn't Releasing
Hey Steven, If just one side our your Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit - Left and Right Hand Assemblies # AKUBRK-7 is sticking then the brake shoes were likely over adjusted and you'll just need to back the adjuster sprocket off to loosen the tension. You should hear a little bit of drag when spinning the wheel and it should stop spinning after roughly 1-2 rotations. You can use a brake spoon # W80630 to make turning the sprocket easier. If the assembly wasn't overtightened then it would...

  • Looking for Replacement Trailer Brake Assemblies that are 12-1/4 inch in Diameter
Hey Dave, do you know the width of the drums you have or the axle capacity? We have options that are 12-1/4 inch in diameter but with several different widths like the 12-1/4 x 3-3/8 Inch # AKEBRK-10 which is for 10k rated axles. A 12 inch diameter brake assembly would not work for you.

  • Replacement 12" Brakes for Fayette Dayton 9254 W-5 Axle
To replace your 12" brakes I recommend checking out the 7K TruRyde Electric Trailer Brake Kit # TRU96FR or the 5.2K - 7K Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit # AKUBRK-7 depending on what kind of braking system you have. You'll also need the Mounting Hardware Kit # BRKH12 to complete your installation. You can absolutely use the Dexter 12 inch brake assemblies. You may also want the new mounting hardware # BRKH12. • Comparing the Dexter Duo-Servo Brake Kit with the etrailer Uni-Servo Brake Kit
The Dexter Hydraulic Drum Brake Kit # 23-336-337 that you mentioned are Duo-Servo brakes meaning they deliver the same amount of braking whether you are driving either forward or in reverse. The Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit # AKUBRK-7 that you referenced are Uni-Servo brakes which means that they will still apply braking when going in reverse, just not as much (about 20% total power) as the Duo-Servo brakes. Unless you plan on doing a lot of backing up with your trailer and you need that...

If you are just wanting to get new brake assemblies you could use part # AKEBRK-7-SA for 12 x 2 assemblies for electric brakes or part # AKUBRK-7 for hydraulic brakes. These measure 12 x 2 inches so they will fit in the hubs you have now, plus they are rated for up to 7,000 lbs axles like that you have. They also fit a brake mounting flange that has a 5 bolt pattern. Although this will work, I recommend going ahead and replacing your drums as well so that you have an entirely new system...

  • Can Electric Brakes Be Added To a M1162A Military Trailer
I do have an option for you but we do not offer any hubs compatible with this bearing combo. Therefore, the best option without replacing the axle would be to simply replace the braking assemblies. The best way to find the correct braking assemblies would be to measure the inside of the drum where the shoes ride. The Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit part # AKFBBRK-35 for example measures 10" diameter x 2-1/4" wide or part # AKUBRK-7 which measures 12" diameter x 2" wide. I have attached our...

The Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit part # AKUBRK-7 does not come with the hub/drum nor do any of our braking assemblies. If you have a 5,200 lb axle with 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern then most likely you will need the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K.
