Thanks for the contact Patrick. Everything is working beautifully. Ive received many comments from friends about how the hitch system looks factory installed on my 06 Jeep Rubicon. The draw-tite system is the only way to go in my book. It handles my 5 x 8 trailer famously. Have a great day, Bill Richards

This is one of the items that has saved me a LOT of time. Since I use both my truck and my car (both have Curt hitches ordered from etrailer) for towing my half dozen or so different types of trailers, I am constantly needing to adjust the ball size and/or height depending on the combination of vehicle and trailer. With this kit is takes literally less that 30 seconds every time for me to configure to exactly my needs. Also, the bag is excellent for keeping crud and ball grease off my vehicle interiors and is big enough to hold a ball wrench inside as well. Cannot beat the price either for so much convenience and saved time. 448088

The hitch did not fit in the receiver on my BMW X5. The BMW receiver has a closed end, the hitch was longer than the depth of the receiver which prevented the insertion of the locking pin. 679822

Appear to be top notch in quality. The bag to keep everything together is a plus. 428002

I keep the set in the enclosed bag in my truck. Most hauling is done with a weight distribution hitch I have. Good to know it is there if needed.

Shipping - The hitch, ball mount-kit, wiring harness, and brush all arrived quickly in a single, heavy-duty cardboard box. The packaging was excellent! There had to have been a hundred heavy-duty staples used to secure everything. Installation - The video and paper instructions were spot-on and made the install much more straight forward. For two non-mechanics, it took us about 2 hours from the time we pulled the car into the garage until all the tools were put away to install the hitch, wiring harness, and mount the balls on the sleeves. We did not lift the car might have made it a little easier but totally doable. The only actual difficulty we had was pulling the rubber muffler mounts off. A little lubrication helps. Reinstalling them is easier. 450720

Excellent quality. Threads on the balls/nuts are smooth. No hang-ups. It's nice to have two sizes of ball mounts. Not just for the differing heights but you never know when someone will need a hand with their trailer than would take a different ball size. I just keep them both on-board in their bag in one of my storage compartments. nice strong bag. Pulling the pin and switching the ball mount is so much easier than getting out the wrench and tugging on an old rusted nut to change a ball. Not getting any younger ya know : ). 123882

I installed the draw tite hitch onto my brand new 2018 Subaru outback. I'm 68 years old, not as strong as I was, but proud to say I did the job all by myself in about 4 hours. Here are some tips you may find useful. Watch the video-it’s pretty good. I had difficulty getting the exhaust system down and worried about getting it up again from the moment I got it down...read on-help will follow. I bought a stepup drill bit which worked great for drilling the hole in the chasis. I clamped the hitch onto a floor jack, then rolled it and raised it into position. Used metal shears to easily cut out the heat shield as per the video. Your inclination will be the screw the fishing tool provided all the way up the carriage bolt. That won’t work; just screw it on to the tip of the bolt. I couln’t get the exhaust hangars in place even after lubricating them with wd-40. I dropped the rubber hangars into undiluted liquid car wash soap which made them much more slippery than the wd-40. After that the rubber hangars slipped into place pretty easily-that’s my best tip. Finding the electric connection plug for the wiring harness was almost as hard as installing the hitch. I was very happy with how the job came out. Good luck. 428039

Thanks for checking in. The trailer hitch was great and held up fantastic. Only got to use it about 4 times, but it worked perfectly. The wiring harness matched perfectly and was a breeze to install. The SUV i mounted it on didnt have enough towing capacity for my new boat, so I ended up trading it in for a newer one that had a factory hitchpre-wired setup. So the hitch receiver and wiring stayed with the SUV upon trade in. I held on to the ball mounts and the other bars and have used them a bunch for towing and launching and they are working great. Really love the site and am shopping around for some other accessories like a roof rack and maybe some offroad recovery gear as well.

Don’t know what trailers I’ll be pulling, so a mix of balls and hitches like this made sense. And not all that much more expensive than a single set up. 567816

Solid, quality finish has prevented rust on ball mounts and balls are heavily chromed. Good quality stuff.

Thank you for the informative video instructions as well as helpful / honest reviews to research prior to making the purchase. I do not have anything to add that has not been covered in the reviews. Here is a recap of my experience that has been consistent with others. 1. Box was received with the driver side of the hitch pushed out. Only minor scratches which you can not see when installed and it did not impact the installation. Wrapping each end would probably be a good idea as stated in other reviews. 2. Removing 14 years of rust was the hardest part of the install (from the passenger side holes). Total time was approximately 1 hour as others have experienced. I used the bolts from the factory tie hook to work out the rust using 1/2" round wire brush attached to a cordless drill along with a full can of WD-40. 3. Installation of the hitch took about 30 minutes with assistance of a foot stool. 4. Plug-n-play electrical connector took about 10 minutes after watching the video. 5. Perfect fitment, fast delivery, easy website ordering experience and follow-up status notifications, and I can not be more pleased with the cost being under $200 for a DIY project. I required this setup to tow a ~1,000 lb motorcycle trailer with a ~1,000 lb motorcycle next week and my Honda has a 3,500 lb towing capacity. Thank you etrailer.com! 427068

The good: It works. The not so good: 1. The lock washer on the ball stud makes it really hard to remove the nut. The lock washer cuts into the nut, essentially preventing it from unscrewing. This is good from a safety standpoint, but makes changing the configuration really hard. I had to lock it into a bench vice and use a pipe wrench to get it off. 2. Not sure what happened, but first time I used it (to pull a rental trailer), the hitch pin fell out, causing the trailer to disconnect. Best I can figure is that the cotter pin popped off. Fortunately, I wasn't on the highway, and the safety chains kept the trailer attached. But it was pretty scary. I replaced it with a locking pin, and had no further issues. 554118

First let me thank the folks at Etrailer.com for great service and communication!! The Ball mount kit was just what I hoped for, heavy duty and well made. The only reason I would give this 4 out of 5 is the fact that these were not wrapped in the box, and came with several chunks of paint missing from them. The packing job could have been better, bubble wrap or something would have kept this from happening. I ship things for a living, so I cringe when I see metal on metal shipped loose in a box. Also the pins provided are not the kind with holes in them, but rather grooves for the clip to slide over. This is a matter of preference, but I like having a hole in the pin for the clip to go through. The included bag is a nice bonus for safe keeping while not towing. 52436

Could not have been easier. I was able to find what I needed by looking at just the items for my vehicle. Item arrived days ahead of schedule. Items were well packed. Tongues appears to be well constructed, but they were made in China. Sturdy pins and a handy bag with enough room for your wrench besides. Very happy with my purchase and good to do business with a local company, too. 560030

  • Recommended Ball Mount for 2018 Subaru Outback with Draw-Tite Hitch
Your hitch pin hole on your hitch receiver # 75673 is about 5 inches from the outer part of your bumper. The Curt Ball Mount # D-26 you mentioned measures 12-5/8 inches from the center of the pin hole to the center of the hitch ball, so that would be overkill. I recommend the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches - 7,500 lbs # 989900 which will have a measurement of 8-1/2 inches from center of pin to center of hitch ball or 9 inches depending on which draw bar is used. The length of the ball mount used in a trailer hitch does not affect the amount of tongue weight (TW) applied to the hitch ball by the trailer, but it does affect the amount of stress applied to the hitch's receiver tube by the ball mount. A very long ball mount would apply MORE pressure to the hitch tube than a shorter one, much in the same way that adding a cheater bar to a tire iron (to make it longer so you have more leverage) will allow you to put more pressure on the lug nut.
