Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Yakima Replacement Lid Support. This is going to replace the lid support for your Yakima cargo box. This is gonna be a direct replacement from Yakima for the models that you see on the screen there. So it will work to replace one lid support, either the front or rear, for your RocketBox, ProRack, SkyBox and Showcase models that you see on the screen. It will also work to replace the front lid support for your RocketBox model on the screen and the rear lift support for the SkyBox models that you see on the screen.
And because this is a direct replacement from Yakima you can trust it is going to work if you have any of those models cargo box, this is gonna be exactly what you need. No worries about fit issues or compatibility problems or anything like that. It is gonna be the direct replacement from Yakima for you. They do also include instructions with some diagrams on how to remove that original and then to install this one here. So everything that you're gonna need to get that original lid support arm replaced so that you can have a functioning cargo box again.

It's truly the only reason I kept the skybox. The old hinge was terrible. These new ones I purchased from you guys are 100 times better and a breeze to install.! Thanks again!!!
These were the perfect replacements for my old, but new to me, Yakima Space Booster 11. The springs had ejected out of the original designed lifters and they look a little different (see picture). Without a visible part number or serial number to cross-reference I had to take a chance that these would work, and they did. Although the mallet method in the instructions worked for removing the old ones I couldn't get it to work for putting them back on. I ended up using ratcheting clamps to compress them over the ball joint posts instead which worked much better. It is a tight fit and these won't be coming off the posts on their own.
The service, delivery time, and updates from etrailer are as great as I expected them to be.

The lid support hinges work great and were very simple to install. Have used the car top carrier for several vacations now and they perform as they should. As far as I can remember they arrived quickly and I have not had anything but positive experiences with etrailer.
I purchased this and the other replacement lid part (8880684) for my very old Rocketbox which had the 'scissor' style support. They went in easily, and I can now trust my lid to stay open, and not have the warped scisors getting stuck on things I am carrying. One thing I noticed, is that the stamped numbers on the plastic parts of this and the 8880684 part are identical, so it is probable that they are the same item with two SKUs
Easy to install and so much better than the originals.

Sweet! That's always a plus :) what do you use your cargo box to carry the most?
The product ended up being correct per the part number, but the instructions were very vague especially for it being a replacement for a Yakima Exo Gearlocker. When I first tried to put them on I dind't think it was going to fit. Additionally, I added a washer to stabilize the smaller side of the hinge. Otherwise, now that it is on, I am very happy to have lid supports again and will see how they hold up. Thank you for supplying this part.
What can I say, etrailer always has the best advice, they never let you down and they only sell you what you really need. I’ve found their customer service better than any other company..ANY other company! The cargo support was exactly what I needed and it works better than the original design.

It’s improved design make it better than the original. It’s still rock solid.
The lid supports to hold up the lid on my cargo box needed to be replaced. The sales rep was very helpful in identifying the items I needed that would fit my Yakima cargo box. They were shipped in a timely manner, easy to install, and work perfectly.

These were hard to find, however etrailer was there for the rescue! The parts were easy to install after replacing the old scissor style hinges
They upgraded my shipping at no cost so I got the parts quicker ( lid supports for Yakima skybox 16 ). Parts came with everything I needed including instructions, installed easily and work great.

After a year the new lid supporthinges are working out just fine. The box gets used a lot and there are no issues opening or closing.

Amazingly! Replacing the sks for my Yakima box has been a game changer for my outdoor recreation all year long. Was so easy to replace the key sets I couldn’t believe it. Wouldn’t have gone any other way about it one year later.
Bought on a whim for the front replacement of a Yakima Platinum Pro 16 box. Since it's an older box, the original replacement is out of stock. This hinge fit perfect.
Not quite an easy install, but I clamped them together and couple hits with a mallet popped them on.

After a year, the hinges are killing it. We use our skybox very often, and Ive had no issues.
The upgrade is well worth the change.
There is nothing wrong with my 15 year old skybox but after thousands of openings and closings the lid supports were not doing the job as well as they used to. I love that I can get replacement parts to essentially have a new box by replacing the guts without throwing away a perfectly good skybox. The pandemic caused a rush on Yakima parts with even Yakima support telling me to go to etrailer because Yakima restocks it’s resellers before it’s own inventory. Throughout the wait I received plenty of communication and was sent pieces of my rebuild as they came in. Great service and perfect replacement part.

Absolutely love the replacement parts for my yakima. If this part wasnt available I would have bought a different storage unit.
