Features to know about

Ultimate Trailer Security: Wraparound Cam Door Latch

If you've been searching for a reliable way to secure your trailer doors, whether for a side or rear application, look no further. The cam-action feature—or the "Cam Door Latch"—is designed to provide peace of mind by preventing tampering during your travels. With its narrow, wraparound keepers, this latch ensures a firm lock, letting you cruise with confidence knowing your cargo is safe.

Durability on the Go: Zinc-Plated Steel Construction

When exposed to the elements, inferior materials can rust and weaken, but this door latch has you covered with sturdy zinc-plated steel construction. This makes it tough enough to handle rain, sleet, or snow, and provides long-lasting durability through many adventures. It’s built to withstand the rigors of road life, keeping your gear secure mile after mile.

Smooth and Easy Operation: Double-Action Handle

Road vibrations can often jar trailer doors, but with the double-action handle, this latch goes above and beyond in ensuring security. It's designed to make latching and unlatching smooth and simple, so you can secure your doors with minimal effort. Plus, it features a black vinyl covering for a comfortable grip.

Customize Your Fit: Versatile and Reversible Design

Whether your trailer requires a left-hand or right-hand door application, this cam-action lock adapts easily to meet your needs. Its reversible hinge system allows for a tailored fit to your particular setup, so you don’t have to worry about compatibility issues—it's customized convenience at its best!

Perfect for DIY Projects: Simple Bolt-On Installation

Installing new hardware on your trailer can be daunting, but this latch makes it straightforward with its simple bolt-on installation. And while the necessary mounting hardware isn't included, sourcing what you need locally means you can tackle this project with minimal fuss. Just grab a 3/4-inch diameter pipe to complete your setup.

Precision Fit and Finish: Spec-Packed Design

For those who value specifics, this latch has exact dimensions to ensure everything fits perfectly. The hasp is 5-1/8 inches tall x 1 inch wide, while the keeper is 5-1/8 inches long x 1-3/8 inches wide, keeping things consistent and providing a precise, tailor-made fit for various trailers and small trucks.

  • Recommended Handle Latch Kit for Barn Door on Dump Trailer
For the barn door on your dump trailer, I recommend looking at the Cam-Action Lockable Door Latch Kit # 383200. This is a nice steel cam-action door latch with a 1 inch wide hasp that can be installed flush on doors with a 3/4 inch offset. It features a bridge-type hasp that will help to prevent accidental opening and secures a safe latching action. This will use a 3/4 inch diameter pipe that you can source from a local hardware store. This will be a simple bolt-on installation. I have...

  • Recommended Bar Style Lock for Trailer Doors
For your 56 inch Lock Side Bar Lock similar to # 3057-55 I recommend the Economy Side Door Lock - Stainless Steel # PLR3057-SS. This will allow you to customize your length using a 3/4 inch pipe which is not included. This style of lock normally doesn't need to be within an inch, so I also have attached another style of lock that may be what you are looking for. It is the Cam-Action Lockable Door Latch Kit w/ Narrow Hasp for Small Enclosed Trailers - Zinc-Plated Steel # 383200. This...

  • Universal Cam-Door Lock Recommendation for Toy Hauler that the Door Does not Close all the Way
I believe I know what is happening. It sounds like your door latches are at the middle of your door which leaves the top of the door slightly open. You could use a Universal Cam-Door Lock for Enclosed Trailers # like what you referenced. I would run it across the top lip of your trailer ramp so that it will secure the top of the door as well. Depending on the setup you might consider leaving your current latches and then install a # 383200 as well. Or, you could move your current latches...

  • Is Installing the Cam-Action Lockable Door Latch Kit Easy
Installation of the Cam-Action Lockable Door Latch Kit w/ Narrow Hasp for Small Enclosed Trailers # 383200 is generally regarded as pretty easy, but unfortunately the manufacturer makes no instructions available for this kit for some reason. However, all you need is a pipe with a 3/4" inside diameter and the handle and cam ends will need to be welded to the pipe; the rest of the application gets bolted on.

  • Do Cams Need to be Welded to 3/4" Pipe to Install the Polar Cam-Action Lockable Door Latch Kit
Yes, the cams (as well as the handle) need to be welded to a 34" Schedule 40 Plumbers Pipe with a 1.06" outer diameter for proper installation of the Cam-Action Lockable Door Latch Kit # 383200. To keep the pipe from dropping down when the door is opened you will just need to install one of the retainers just below the handle as you can see from the attached photo a customer sent in.

I have a solution for you but you will need to supply your own pipe to get your desired 33-1/4 inch size. With this item you supply the 3/4 inch inside diameter pipe to make a custom door lock. Some welding will be required for installation of this kit. I went out to the warehouse and pulled a Universal Cam-Door Lock # 383200. I used a magnet to determine the parts are steel but the grade of steel is not listed. For the bracket that the hooks part would go into the mounting holes are 4 inches apart on center.

  • Can a Universal Cam-Door Lock for Enclosed Trailers be Used in the Horizontal Position
It is possible to use the cam-door lock, # 383200, horizontally but it would need to be placed up higher than the midway point to reduce the amount of stress on it when the door is closed. Take a look at the picture I have included that shows this type of set up. For a lock you could use # BLDL-80.

  • Choosing Correct Polar Cam-Action Latch Kit for Enclosed Trailer
It sounds like you are referring to the Polar Cam-Action Latch Kits like # 383200 that are designated for small or large enclosed trailers. Your 12 x 6 enclosed trailer is likely considered a small trailer. With that being said, the differences in the kits just have to do with the size of the hardware used and there isn't really a reason you couldn't use a kit designed for a large trailer on doors that are on a small trailer (and vise versa). The weight capacities will be the same. For...

Trailer ramp spring # 362SW61 could work provided that the interior of the trailer is wide enough for the rod (the rod can be trimmed down as low as 48 inches). No, you wouldn't weld the bar to the mounting brackets for the universal cam-door lock, # 383200. The bar needs to be able to rotate and welding it would prevent it from moving. Only the handle would be welded to the pipe. I have included a link to a video review of this part for you.
