Does one weld the cams into the ends of the 3/4 inch pipe? How does one deep the pipe from ping down the the door is opened?

Yes, the cams (as well as the handle) need to be welded to a 34" Schedule 40 Plumbers Pipe with a 1.06" outer diameter for proper installation of the Cam-Action Lockable Door Latch Kit # 383200. To keep the pipe from dropping down when the door is opened you will just need to install one of the retainers just below the handle as you can see from the attached photo a customer sent in.
