Swap the two actuator wires at the tailgate to sync it with the doors. Finding the correct trigger wires can be tricky in a large bundle—verify function before crimping. Wire colors in instructions may differ on some trucks, so confirm with a test light. If needed, check both driver and passenger side kick panels or step plates depending on cab style.
Tailgate mounting is usually easy; routing the wire to the front takes the most time. It's simpler with the truck on a lift. Watch install videos and take your time. If following the OEM harness, the main wire can be tight—mock the path first. Add split loom and secure the harness. When drilling for a grommet, back the panel with a wood block for a clean hole.
Start by checking the spring on the lock bolt assembly and make sure the linkage isn't binding. If it shudders and barely moves, cycle the lock by hand to see if the mechanism is stiff; the actuator may be struggling. If the truck lost power, apply an external 12V source at the harness connector. In a hard failure, a locksmith may need to access the tailgate.
