2005 Dodge Ram Pickup

i ordered this product to go along with my extang solid fold on my 05 ram 3500. the installation video was very informative! i watched it two or three times while waiting for this to be delivered, and by time it arrived i barely needed the instructions. the main wire that goes from back to front of the truck was barely long enough following the trucks oem harness. i also didnt use the battery tirminals for power, i think that looks cluttered. i used the positive battery post in the power distribution box, and a main ground on the frame right next to it. very clean looking. i feel much better leaving my golf clubs in back during the summer, and transporting hunting equipment and firearms legally through the fall and winter. thanks!

I appreciate you following up with me. I traded in the truck to which this product was installed about three weeks ago. Im sad to say that about two months ago after being parked in my garage overnight I went out to open my tail gate to find that it would not unlock. When this happened, I noticed a strong smell that is only describable as the electrical smell coming from the rear of my truck. I had to force open my Extang Solidfold tonneau to get into my bed to disassemble the tailgate. When I did so, I found the lockunlock solenoid of the tailgate lock assembly to be melted and physically distorted from what I assume was an overheating issue. I manually forced it open to unlock the tailgate and traded the truck in with it not functioning properly.Prior to this incident I was very pleased with the product. Installation was easy and it worked very well to secure my belongings in the bed of my truck. The longevity of the product is very disappointing though. I would expect a product like this one to be good for the lift of the vehicle. Im thankful that I was at home and not at a store or a customers when this happened or it could have been potentially embarrassing.To clarify, at this time I do not have intention of purchasing one for my 2016 Chevrolet Colorado I just purchased, nor would I recommend this to a friend.

The lock was added for security reasons and was a great addition. The lock was wired to an optional output on our Compu Start alarm so that it is independent of the door lock function. When the alarm is set the tailgate along with the doors automatically lock and are monitored by the alarm, a tilt sensor was installed inside the tailgate for tailgate position.

Chevrolet Silverado

I purchased this product to lock my Silverado tail gate and protect contents and my Xtang bed cover. The Pop and Lock device was a little difficult to install for my application, however etrailer's video instructions were excellent! Developed a minor problem with the Pop and Lock, and customer service was outstanding. I highly recommend purchasing your truck and trailering needs from Etrailer! Product was easy to install following the provided instructions. Connections to wiring harness were correct with the right color coding to tap into. The only problem I had with the power tailgate lock was that after several months, the gate would not unlock when using the key fob. After investigation, I found that the latch on the solenoid required small amount of greasing to prevent from hanging up and since then I have not had any problems.

2006 Dodge Ram Pickup

Exactly as advertised. This tailgate lock works well in my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500.

Note: I wish this company or another would make a power lock + backup camera in a tailgate handle, so both the lock and the camera would be in 1 unit.

2004 Dodge Ram Pickup

I installed this power unit on my tailgate yesterday and so far it works great. Installation was pretty simple and the instructions were very accurately detailed. I like the idea of not having to keep up with another key for my tailgate. Just lock the doors and that's it.

2004 Dodge Ram Pickup

I installed on 2004 dodge ram 2500, quad cab, turbo Cummins, 4x4. I tried running "long cable" to the engine compartment, but, there was not enough length. after a bit of looking, I ran into the cab at the grommet for the e-brake. this left me plenty of length. 2004 uses grey with light green stripe wire and light green wire. EASY INSTALL!!

@Johnathan Hey Johnathan, really appreciate you coming back with the one year update. That’s awesome to hear it’s still working perfectly and hasn’t given you any trouble, especially on something you use all the time like a tailgate lock. Those are the kind of upgrades you want to just install once and not have to think about again, so it sounds like it’s doing exactly what it should. Are you still running it with the factory remote setup, or have you added any other security upgrades to your truck since then?

2012 Toyota Tacoma

This is an excellent product, however when I opened the box it was plain to see there was no split loom covering over the supplied wiring harness. etrailer was very apologetic and was willing to send me the split loom or credit me the cost of the covering. ($6) Plus they were available to answer the phone on a Saturday!

The installation video posted on this site was very helpful. My particular vehicle is an access cab, so there were a few differences. No need to go beyond the driver side kick board covering to find the correct wires for connection. I also drilled my own hole and used a 1/2" grommet in the bottom of the tail gate for a cleaner install. One tip I would suggest is to find a block of wood equal to the gap between the tailgate and body of the truck for drilling this hole. I noticed on the video the technician did not do this. Very important if you want a clean hole in the metal.

Product works as advertised. Not going to lie, I was upset with the lack of split loom covering on the wiring harness. Overall I think etrailer.com is a great source for parts and information.

Pop and Lock recently changed these kits. They no longer include the wire loom. Per the requests of many installers, they opted for a heavy jacket around the wire rather than a corrugated loom that for some was making installations slower. A smooth jacket is easier to to snake through tight areas than a corrugated loom. Once we were aware of this change, we got the ball rolling to update our photos and shortly we will have all of these listings updated.

I have a locking sliding bed cover and to know the tailgate is locked when I click the key fob makes me feel very secure that my belongings are locked safely in the bed of my truck. Installation was not too difficult, but that has nothing to do with the quality of the product. Once installed, it has worked flawlessly. Watch the videos and take your time.

Install was relatively easy on 2020 Frontier. Tied into the wiring in the passenger side B pillar. Instructions are vague. Video for an install on a 2019 Frontier made all the difference. Tied blue to purple and green to light blue wires in the B pillar. Just like in the video. Worked perfectly. I think earlier models will be different. Can’t attest to longevity, just installed it yesterday.

2012 Ford F-150

1. Watch the video before installing!

2. My 2012 F150 Supercrew has the reverse camera and assist step in the tailgate. Installation of the lock assembly was simple and easy. I did use, and recommend a set of mechanical fingers to make wire harness routing through the tailgate much easier. I ran the the finger through the tailgate and out of the hole in the bottom of the gate. Also, if you have the camera harness like I did, routing is much easier if you remove the tailgate from the right hinge only, and move it away from the bed slightly to allow better access to the hole in the bed. I also routed the wire from underneath the bed and then through the tailgate due to the camera wire harness. I installed spiral wrap around the harness in the area of the tailgate to provide additional chaffing protection. I purchased the split sleeve to protect the wire harness routed from this area to the front of the cab.

3. Instead of drilling a hole in the rocker panel box, I found a hole with a rubber plug installed, at the rear of the passenger door rocker panel. I used a 1/4" gasket punch to cut out the center of the plug, routed the wire through the hole, and sealed it with black silicone. The wire went right into the wire tunnel. I routed the wire harness up to the driver door rocker area, and connected into the truck harness there. I did wire my gate lock to unlock with the passenger door, so the wire colors were Grey with a tan stripe for locking, and Purple with a grey stripe for unlock. I secured the harness in the rocker tunnel with nylon cable ties.
I have several friends who own F150's with locking tailgates, and they all indicated they would be looking into getting one for their trucks!

What you need for your 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 is a tail gate lock so that it cannot be opened when you have the tonneau cover closed and locked. We have a few different options that will fit your truck. Fit of Pilot Automotive LH-007 Tailgate Lock on 2009 Dodge Ram 2500
According to Pilot Automotive, their # LH-007 manual tailgate lock fits a 2009 Ram 2500, regardless of bed length or if it's a RWD for 4x4 model. For an electric tailgate locking system that ties the tailgate lock in with the door locks, Pop&Lock offers part # PAL8340 and would retain the factory tailgate handle. Can the Pop and Lock Powered Tail Gate Lock be Opened if it Fails in the Locked Position
Presumably if you have a bed cover of some kind, even if it locks, you would be able to open it because it has its own separate keys. Then you would get into the bed and have to remove the access panel on the tail gate to disengage the lock. I spoke with Pop & Lock and they said the Pop & Lock Custom Tailgate Lock part # PAL8340 will work with a factory backup camera in the tailgate handle. If you have a MegaCab and short bed then the above is the correct part for you but if you have the MegaCab and long bed then you will need to use part # PAL8340-PL9510 as it comes with an extension that you need.
