Video Transcript for Curt Wiring - Wiring Adapters - C57186 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Curt universal installation kit for a trailer break controller and a 7-way RV connector. This universal kit will include all this wiring and all this hardware. It will let you install the electric break controller in your vehicle and also the 7-way connector for your trailer lights all at the same time. This is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector. This end right here will plug into the existing 4-way that's on the vehicle. The 7-way right here is all pre wired. This connector will mount easily at the rear of your vehicle onto a mounting bracket.

The mounting brackets are sold separately. We do list them on our website as a product. They are listed on this product page as a related product also. The wire that comes out of the 7-way, will have a 20 foot long duplex cable. This cable itself houses 2 10 gauge wires. One of the wires will connect to the blue wire on your break controller.

The other wire connects to the positive post of your vehicles battery through the circuit breakers. The white wire with the eye lid on it connects to a nice clean ground. The red wire is what connects to your reverse light circuit. In the hardware they do include a 30 and a 40 amp circuit breaker. These are designed to protect your vehicles electrical system by preventing an overload. They do also include this quick splice wiring connector.

This will easily let you connect your break controller stop signal wire to your break pedal switch. They include the heavy duty replacement flasher. When you install this, this will prevent your turn signals from breaking too fast. It does have an assortment of ring terminals. They give you 5 number 1 ring terminals, and 2 larger 2 3/8 inch size ring terminals. These are designed to attach to the wires so that you connect the leads to the circuit breakers and to the battery post.

The 4 butt connectors right here, these are for joining wires in your installation. Then they give you 8 long cable ties that will help you secure any loose wires that might be hanging down. Then there's 8 self capping screws for installing the circuit breakers and the 7-way. One note I do want to mention on this is that on some vehicles that are extra long, like a crew cab and extended cab with a long bed. Extended length SUV. Some of those, it might require extra wire to connect this, and we do sell the extra wires separately. It's part number ETBCXW, and again it is listed on this product page as a related product. That should do it for the review of the Curt universal installation kit for the trailer break controller and the 7-way RV connector.

This product made life real easy converting a standard 4-way plug into a 7-way blade plug and adding a Tekonsha P3 trailer brake controller on my motorhome (1993 Monaco Dynasty). It solved several problems, now I do not have the buy (and have installed) a tow bar and pneumatic brake system for the pickup, just load it up on the car hauler and go (with brakes). Follow the instructions & wiring diagram (simple); the hardest part (not that difficult) of the job was running the controller wire to the front of the MH. Thanks George. 526599

I received an email saying one of the items I ordered, was not in stock, I was given a choice to take an alternative item, which would have worked just fine, I chose to wait for the exact item. To my surprise it came to the house two days after being told I would have to wait. My whole order took just short of a week to get, even having to wait for a part not presently in stock. All the stuff I ordered was in perfect condition, and properly packed. Very satisfied with your service and price. Thanks, Doug P. 338239

I ordered this wiring kit for a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 I recently acquired. The Ram was not tow ready but did have a factory 4-way. I also ordered hitch #13333. The wiring kit is very high quality and was easy to install. The 7-way fit perfectly where the factory 7-way would have gone. I'm using a Tekonsha Prodigy RF wireless brake controller so the blue lead was not needed but I left some extra should that change. Thanks etrailer! 502951

I was skeptical about this purchase at first, but when I thought of all the parts I was going to have to round up at our local auto parts store, whether they had them in stock, and if they had to order them, I decided to get this product from etrailer. I am very glad I did as I found out the existing 7-way plug on my truck had lots of rust/corrosion and the ground wire was almost rusted off its connection points. It is nice having all of the connections already in the 7-way plug and the product arrived in just 2 days with standard shipping! The directions that came with this product were very helpful! I won't hesitate to ordering from etrailer again. I also purchased C51140: Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller to go with this. Works great! 576818

  • What Do I Need to Tow a 4,000 Lb Trailer with a 2002 Jeep Liberty
  • We have a number accessories you can add to your 2002 Jeep Liberty in order to help tow your trailer. However, they can be a bit excessive so unless you want the absolutely best towing experience possible then items such as towing mirrors and backup cameras won't really be needed. If you tow the trailer a few times and find that you would want these items then by all means go for it and I will attach some recommendations for you but in regards to what I think you really need to start; a...

  • Recommended Universal 7-Way Kit for 2010 Toyota RAV4
  • You are exactly correct in that you can use either the Curt Installation Kit # C57186 or the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7 to install a brake controller and fully functional 7-Way from the 4-Way you already have installed. These are both universal 7-Way kits that will work on your 2010 RAV4. Between the two kits, I actually recommend going with the # ETBC7. This is because unlike the Curt Kit, this will include a circuit tester to help with installation, along with a bracket to...

  • Parts Needed To Tow with a 2017 GMC Savana 2500 Van
  • If the trailer you will be towing with your 2017 GMC Savana 2500 Van has brakes then yes, you will need to use a 7-way wiring harness and brake controller in addition to the trailer hitch, trailer wiring harness, and ball mount/hitch ball. These will be the only requirements to tow the trailer but you may also be interested in a transmission cooler to help prolong the life of your vehicle's transmission. The P3 offers the advantages of a large clear display, brake power settings you can store and call up on demand and an outstanding record of reliability. • How Much Can a 2015 Subaru Forester Tow
  • The towing capacity of your 2015 Subaru Forester is 1,000 lbs if the trailer doesn't have brakes and 1,500 lbs if it does have brakes according to the owner's manual. Therefore, as long as the camper you are looking at has brakes or you add them then yes you can safely tow the trailer with this vehicle. In order to tow a trailer with your Forester you will need a trailer hitch, wiring harness, and ball mount/hitch ball. For a trailer hitch I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver...

  • Can the Prodigy RF # 90250 be Powered by a Battery on the Trailer
  • Technically you could power the Tekonsha Prodigy RF # 90250 with a battery on your trailer but there are definitely some downsides to this. The first is the issue of being able to connect the hot lead to an adapter. The RF has a 7-Way so if you were to use it with vehicles that only have a 4-Way an adapter like the Hopkins # 37185 would need to be used. This kind of adapter is supposed to be permanently mounted to a vehicle and it would likely get damaged if you were to leave it on your...

  • Recommended Universal 7-Way Wiring Harness for a 1987 Chevrolet Silverado SWB
  • Both the # ETBC7 and the Curt # C57186 are universal 7-way kits, but I recommend the # ETBC7 over the # C57186 for ease of install and because it comes with a wire tester included. Both kits require a 4-way being installed on the vehicle to plug in the initial functions. For your vehicle you will want to install the # 18252. I really like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 because it is a proportional brake controller which means it senses how the tow vehicle is slowing or stopping and...

This includes the needed 10 gauge wire that you will connect to the vehicle's positive battery post via the included 40 amp breaker to activate the 12V pin on the 7-Way. For this, I recommend using the Curt Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # C57186 along with the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180. • Yes, the 12 volt power wire on the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56106 which is a fit for your 2017 Toyota Sienna SE will still need to be ran to the positive side of the battery terminal when combined with a 7-way wiring harness like the Curt Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # C57186. • If your 2013 Toyota Tacoma came with a factory brake controller port then the rest of the wires you need to hook up to the 7-way (12 volt power and brake output) should already be ran to the rear of the vehicle, under the bumper and near the spare tire. However, we have not yet had the chance to install a 7-way on a 2013 Toyota Tacoma with this same setup so I would not have any exact locations to look for these wires.
