Video Transcript for Brophy Wiring - Trailer Connectors - R9CB Review

Today, we're going to review part number R9CB. This is the Brophy 9-Way Round Pin Trailer Connector. This is for the vehicle side. The 9-ways are not used much anymore. They we're used on some older trailers and they used them on some semi-trailers. Basically, it gives you the standard 7 circuits that the 7-way would give you and it also gives you two extra circuits.

Basically, they we're usually a 12-volt auxiliary circuit and a reefer circuit, which means it would be attached to if a semi hauled a refrigerated trailer, it would have a circuit to hook that refrigeration unit up to. As you can see, it's made of a nice, hard ABS plastic, has a nice hinged lid that protects those terminals. The other nice thing, I'm just going to show you. If you notice, I've taken the two screws out on each side and what that does, is it allows the middle to drop out. You just tap the center out here. There you go.

You can see that's where you run your wiring through the back here, make your connections. Then, just when you go to put your center back in, there is a little cut out, you just line that up with the bottom. Just like that, push it in, and then put your screws back in to hold it into place. Very easy installation. This is the vehicle side. If you need a related product we sell, this is the ...

We sell this also, it's the R9TB. This is the trailer side. This is actually what would end up being on your trailer side that way, you would slide in here to get your 9-pin connection. We do sell this separately on our website. That should do it for the review of part number R9CB, the Brophy 9-Way Round Pin Trailer Connector for the vehicle side. .

  • How to Add 4, 5 and 7 Way Connectors to Vehicle with Existing 9 Way Trailer Connector
I have a solution for you, but since 9 way connectors like the # R9CB are really a thing of the past, there is not an available adapter that we carry that will allow you to plug a 4, 5 or 7 way connector into it. I recommend that you either cut the 9 way connector off of your vehicle and replace it with a standard 7 way or 4 way connector, or splice into the wiring on the 9 way and install a second connector for these other trailer setups. For either of these solutions, you will need...

  • Purpose of Refrigerator Tag Line Circuit on 9-Way Trailer Connector
The refrigerator or reefer tag line is the power feed for the thermostat that controls the cooling unit on a refrigerated trailer. It would connect to a 12-volt power source on the truck, if needed. If you are not pulling a refrigerated trailer, the circuit could be used for another purpose or just left unconnected if you do not need it. I have provided a wiring diagram for a 9-way connector that you might find helpful.

  • How to Make a 9 Pin to 7-Way Adapter for Connecting Semi Truck to Trailer
I have a solution for you that will allow you to make an adapter, but we do not sell one pre-made. To adapt your 9-pin trailer plug to work with the 7-way connector on the truck, you would need the 9-pin vehicle side connector that you referenced, part # R9CB. A length of 7-wire cable # DW04914-1 from the 9-pin would be tapped into the relevant circuits behind the 7-way, with the two remaining terminals being connected as needed. For a more temporary install, the 9-way R9CB could be...

  • 9 Pole Wiring Connections for Snow Plow Wiring Connection
The 9-Way Round Pin Trailer Connector - Vehicle Side # R9CB and 9-Way Round Pin Trailer Connector - Trailer Side # R9TB can be used to rewire your snowplow. We have a customer who has used this connection for just that purpose in running the plow pump and plow lights. I've attached a couple videos to assist with the installation. The 9-way works very similar to the 7-way with extra accessory pin options.

  • Adapting 9-Pin Trailer Connector to Work with 7-Way on Tow Vehicle
Are you speaking of an adapter like part # 37185? If so, I do not believe that would work well for you because the 4-pole connector on that adapter is not wired independently, rather it is tied into the 7-way. To adapt your 9-pin trailer plug to work with the 7-way connector on the truck, you would need the 9-pin vehicle side connector that you referenced, part # R9CB. A length of 7-wire cable # DW04914-1 from the 9-pin would be tapped into the relevant circuits behind the 7-way, with...

  • What is Needed to Replace a 9-Way with a 7-way on a 1984 Holiday Rambler Travel Trailer
Yes, you would want a 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector # H20042. You will need to cut off the 9-way that is on your 1984 Holiday Rambler trailer and wire this connector on it by function. However, you should note that in going from the 9-way to the 7-way you will lose 2 circuits that will go to your trailer. Since 9-ways are a thing of the past I do not have any wiring diagrams or typical wiring charts for the 9-way to help you wire up the # H20042. I attached an FAQ article on...

  • Installation of 9-Way Round Pin Connectors on Vehicle and Trailer Side
The 9-Way Round Pin Trailer Connector - Vehicle Side # R9CB will connect simply by stripping the wires and using the screws located at each pin to connect your wires. Then you simply reconnect the two screws that secure the connector to the housing. I've attached a video to assist. The 9-Way Round Pin Trailer Connector - Trailer Side # R9TB will install in the same way. I've attached a video of the installation of a 7-way which will be a very similar installation. I recommend using...

  • What is the Function of the 8th Wire on a 1978 Holiday Ramblette
I may have some information that will help, but due to the lack of available information on the older Holiday Ramblette travel trailers, I cannot tell you the exact function of the eighth wire. Even the manufacturer could not provide information for trailers beyond 1982. On some of the older trailers manufacturers provided an additional 12 volt power circuit such as a 12 volt refrigerator or secondary battery. This allowed the vehicle battery to power those additional circuits when...
