Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Optronics backup light with red reflex reflector. This is a rectangular backup light that's designed for trailers and utility trucks. Going around the perimeter of the light, it's going to feature that red reflex reflector. It's built in. That's going to eliminate the need for a separate reflector. The unit does feature a sonically sealed design, so it's going to feature a waterproof housing and lens unit that is submersible.
The bulb that it uses is an incandescent bulb. There's one bulb on this unit, and that sits in a shockproof socket. That's going to guarantee longer bulb life. We're looking at a polycarbonate lens as well as a polycarbonate housing. It's very strong and durable. When you're ready to mount this, it's designed to be a recessed mount installation with a mounting grommet.
Grommet is sold separately and available, here, at etrailer.com. This light will fit into a 5 1/2" long by 3 9/16" tall hole. It's also designed to accept an industry standard two-prong plug. That's sold separately as well and available at etrailer.com. The unit is Department of Transportation compliant.
It meets FMVSS-108 requirements. Taking the overall dimensions of the light itself, measuring edge to edge this direction, it's going to give us a measurement of about 5 5/16" long. Going this direction, it's going to measure about 3 7/16" tall. The overall depth from very front to very back measures about 1 15/16" deep. The power draw at 12.8 volts is 1.6 amps. We're going to go ahead and hook it up to power. That way you can see what it looks up with some power running to it.
This, right here, is our two-prong plug. Now, on the back you're going to notice that it does have three-prong connections. That's just a standard layout that Optronics will put on their lights. This light just needs a ground wire and it needs the wire for the reverse light. There's three connection points, but only a two-prong plug is needed. We're going to use this connection point, here, on this side. Then on this side, we're using the connection point on the bottom. We'll take our plug, fit it in there. Now, the plug creates a nice tight seal around the connection point, so you don't have to worry about moisture or debris getting in there. This is what the light looks like with power running to it. It's a nice bright light. The clear lens in the center allows plenty of light to come through. Then again, around the perimeter you're going to have the red reflex reflector. This is a reverse light, so when you activate the reverse gear, that light will kick on. When you shift out of that gear, it'll go off. That's going to do it for today's look at the Optronics backup light with the red reflex reflector.
