Video Transcript for Fastway Ball Mounts Re-Keying Kit Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Fastway Re-Keying Kit for DTLBM and DTALBM Series Self-Locking Aluminum Ball Mounts, part number DTLBM02RK. This kit is perfect if you've lost your keys or your locks become damaged. It comes with everything you need to replace two locks. Both locks are keyed alike and four keys are included. Now we'll go ahead and show you how to replace them. First, we want to go ahead and remove our old lock cylinders. What we want to do is peel back the silver warning sticker right here.

There's going to be one on each lock. By peeling back the warning label we've located our set screw. We can go ahead and take our included Allen and take that on out. Now, if you've had your lock for awhile it may be a little corroded, so it's not a bad idea to go ahead and hit that with some penetrating oil and let that sit for a little bit. Let's go ahead and take it out.

Make sure it's all the way in. Now with our set screw removed, our lock cylinder should just come right on out. If you're having trouble getting it out, just go ahead and hit it with some more penetrating oil and give it a second to soak in, and just give it a tug and it should come out. Now, inside you can see our cam actuator. This is what allows our lock to operate our pin. What we'll need to do is, we'll take our new lock cylinder and we'll need to line up this portion here so it fits inside the lock actuator.

We'll also need to be sure that the indentation on top, that's what our set screw is going to go into. We'll also need to grab our new dust cap and that's going to go in the bottom indentation here. We'll put that in slightly, make sure our lock cylinder's lined up, and then we'll push them both in together just like that. Now we can take our included tool and our new set screw, and thread that in. Now, you want to be sure that your lock cylinder is pushed all the way in as far as it will go. We'll just get that started.

You also want to be sure not to over tighten. Just get it nice and snug. All this is meant to do is to hold that lock cylinder in place and prevent it from coming out. Now you want to be sure and try it out and make sure that it works. I'd say it works pretty good. Now that we know everything works, we can go ahead and take our new warning label and apply that on top. Perfect. Good as new. Now we can repeat the same process for our second lock cylinder. That's going to complete our look at the Fastway Re-Keying Kit for DTLBM and DTALBM Series Self-Locking Aluminum Ball Mounts, part number DTLBM02RK, .

Just replacing a faulty lock. Package was said delivered on 11/8, was not. Contacted etrailer. Said they would look into it. Never heard from etrailer again. Started my own investigation through the USPS. Package was located by me 3 days later, no thanks or help from etrailer. Pathetic customer service...

by:

The replacement locks are just what I needed. Sure cheaper than buying a new hitch. They were delivered in timely manner, and were very easy to install. The install took less than 10 minutes.

by:

did the job as advertised. tiny set screws are a pain the ass to get out of the old hitch. be patient on that part. after that its easy.

by:

Tail piece on the lock cylinders need a little massaging but worked perfect.

by:

I would give 5 stars but this is the 3rd set of locks I've replaced. This whole unit has to be kept moving or it gets difficult to lock and unlock. Also, just sliding the ball bracket up and down gets difficult. Other than those little things, good design IMHO.

by:

I purchased a vehicle with Diversi-Tech hitch and the previous owner lost the keys to it. This kit enabled me to over-come that problem, quite easily. The old re-keying kit was easy to remove, using a video that was available on etrailer.com. It only took some WD-40, an allen wrench, and this kit. Love it!

by:

Hard to remove old parts one set screw had to recap #4-40 but new part work great like new.

by:

The rekeying kit came as promised with all appropriate items required to rekey my trailer hitch. Etrailer customer service has been excellent, I will gladly recommend this company to anyone that requires their services or products.

I am rekeyed and ready to go!

by:

The new parts worked perfectly. The only issue I had was removing the very small set screw. 1 came out just right the other took a lot to get out and repair.

by:

Instructions were clearly written and the rekeying procedure was straightforward. The replacement parts fit and function perfectly.

by:

Kelly is the bomb. On time great service easy to work with
I'll be back!!!

by:

Perfect fit. Thought I was going to have to get a locksmith at 125 an hr. when the old one went bad. Googled it and etrailer.com video came up on how to fix it and the part# to do it with. Ordered the part...three days later (shipped across country) I had it fixed and towing my boat! Great company!!

by:

Someone tried to remove my hitch, really screwed up one of the key sets. Luckily it was on the ball set so i could remove it from the receiver. Was about to trash it but i emailed etrailer and received a link to the replacement key sets needed for re-keying. Followed the directions and after letting the set screws soak as directed it took about fifteen minutes to replace both key sets. I have made several purchases from etrailer, this is the first time i have had to use customer service. First rate, recommend them to everyone!!

Worked out great thanks!

I’ve had my tow hitch for a little over 6 years and recently tried to remove the hitch and ended up breaking off the key inside the camlock. Luckily I found etrailers which carried replacement locks. After following the instruction included in the package,I removed my old locks and installed the new locks. Great product!!

by:

I needed a special built in lock for a trailer hitch and etrailer had it. I called to confirm the fit and the individual I talked to was very knowledgeable and within a short time I received it. I highly recommend etrailer.

One set screw and lock came out just fine. The second one was rusted completely and could not remove either the set screw or the old lock. Not really sure how to proceed ???

Our Fastway representative tells me that they use a little bit of thread locking compound on those set screws, so giving the set screw a good shot of a spray penetrant like PB Blaster and letting that sit for a couple of hours is recommended. If this fails to help you remove the Allen screws, then Fastway recommends using a # 1 extractor to remove the set screw. Once the screw is removed, the lock cylinder should just fall out, if it does not, you can put one of the keys in the lock and pull the cylinder out.

by:

Excellent! We were really happy with both the kit and the customer service (while we were trying to figure out which kit we needed). Thank you, sincerely. etrailer.com will for sure be our "go to" should we need more trailer parts/solutions in the future.

by:

Great product and fast delivery

by:

My hitch had tried to be stolen. The lock set (for locking into the receiver) had been deformed. I was able to do some judicious grinding and removed the damaged lock set. The new sets are an easily R&R. Although the locking pins for the receiver take a bit more effort now all is in good working order. Fast order and shipping was a plus!

by:

Fast shipping exactly what I needed in order to keep from buying another hitch setup, wil do all my shopping with etrailer.com.
Don't hesitate on ordering, cause you won't find better service or shipping.
Thanks again etrailer for the help.

by:

This was the second time I ordered the kit. Not sure what I did the first time, but the first kit fell apart the first time I used the hitch. The second time I spent more time cleaning and prepping for the repair. It seems to be much better and has been used several times.

by:

Great customer service and fast shipping, parts did not help much though. I had to drill out set screws and Redrill and tap . Locks worked great after all that.

  • Replacement Keys for Diversi-Tech Ball Mount
You can purchase Re-Keying Kit, # DTLBM02RK, to re-key your ball mount. The kit includes a tool to remove the locking cylinder you have in the ball mount now. Once you receive the kit, you will need to put some air tool oil in the hole that the lock set screw goes in and let it soak for a while. This will release the thread locker and allow you to remove the set screw. The set screw is located under a piece of tape on the ball mount. Once you get the Re-Key Kit or if you know the key...

  • How Can I Find A Replacement Key For My Fastway/Diversi-Tech Ball Mount?
The key number should be stamped on the key itself. So for example if your key number was 316, then the correct replacement key is theReplacement Tube Keys for Fastway Universal Coupler Lock # FA-KEY-316. The key number won't be on the ball mount anywhere so if you don't have the key then I recommend the: -Re-Keying Kit for DTLBM and DTALBM Series Self-Locking Aluminum Ball Mounts # DTLBM02RK instead. This kit includes everything you need to replace your locks on your Fastway or Diversi-Tech...

  • Recommendation for Freeing Seized Lock Cylinder on Ball Mount
Of your key operated hitch similar to the Fastway ball mount # DTALBM6625, you are wise not to use leverage as the primary tool as it could damage your key, lock cylinder or both. I recommend you use a penetrating oil like PB blaster or WD-40 on the lock cylinder and then use a rubber mallet to allow vibration to help it work into the cylinder locking mechanism. Allow it to sit and repeat as necessary until the key is able to be used to free the locking cylinder and function correctly.

  • Can Keys be Replaced on Diversi-Tech Aluminum Ball Mount
Hi John, The V-5 is a rating as opposed to a model, and keys can be replaced so long as you have the Aluminum Series (ALBM or LBM) of Diversi-Tech ball mount. I can't quite tell from the photo if that's what you have, but it looks like you do have the barrel key so I would think you do. If you can verify you have the Aluminum Series then to get new keys you would just need the following: - Re-Keying Kit for DTLBM and DTALBM Series Self-Locking Aluminum Ball Mounts - 2 Locks # DTLBM02RK

  • What Size is the Set Screw for Re-Keying Kit DTLBM02RK
The set screw that holds the locks such as # DTLBM02RK to the ball mount is a 0.05 inch so you would need a 0.05 Allen wrench. But if it is stripped at the screw too you may need to just try numerous sizes to find one that fits the best. That is usually what I do; bring every Allen wrench I have with me and try them until one fits. I do recommend using some penetrating oil and letting it soak for about 15 minutes to make it easier to remove the screw.

  • Can Locking Actuator in Diversi-Tech/Fastway Aluminum Ball Mount be Replaced
The only internal pieces that are replaceable on a Diversi-Tech ball mount are the lock cores like what you mentioned with part # DTLBM02RK. Since this is the case you will need to replace the entire ball mount. I know this isn't the news you wanted to hear, but it's the only solution for your situation. You can use a direct replacement like part # DTALBM6800 which fits a 2" hitch receiver and has an 8" drop and 9" rise, but I recommend going with an upgrade like the B&W Tow & Stow # BWTS10043B...
