Video Transcript for An In-Depth Look at the Gladiator Waterproof Cargo Net w/ Integrated Tarp

Hi everyone. Aiden here at "etrailer". Today we're gonna be taking a look at this Gladiator utility cargo net. This one's going to be 10 feet by 12 feet long and this is gonna be their waterproof version so it's got the same inch and a half thick webbing that all their other cargo nets have. But throughout the webbing you've got this durable 18 gauge vinyl that's going to help repel water and keep it off your stuff underneath. Let's check it out.

So with the size of this net it's gonna be designed for your utility trailers any sort of taller load or larger load because that width and that length, that's gonna be pretty large. So anything taller like this, it's gonna have a little bit of extra room to wrap around the sides of it. Now with something this size I would add some extra straps to it though. This kit comes with four cam-buckle straps, which are really nice. But for the middle sections of the net I would definitely like some extra security just to keep it from flapping up and down.

Right now I've got those straps on all four corners and overall it gets a good strong hold on our cargo underneath. So I did mention adding extra straps and the nice thing about this is that you've got 88 metal reinforced grommets all throughout the net that you can choose to clip in your straps. We've got ours on the corners, like we said but there's tons all throughout the sides, spaced out evenly and there's even some up towards the inside of the net. So if you do have a smaller load and you've got a little bit more overhang on the net itself, you can go to some of these inner tie-down loops and still get a really solid hold. which is great.

You can get your own straps separately or you can get them from Gladiator as well. The ones they make are really nice and you can get them all to match that way, too. You can get S hook or double J hook variance, too. And then with those you get a large storage case. So any of those extra straps will fit in the case that it comes with.

Everything fits in this large zippered pocket in the front. And because of the thicker vinyl material, the net is actually pretty easy to fold back up and get back in here. Plenty of room in there for all your stuff. Plus you've got extra pockets on the back for maybe some bungee cords or extra straps and then a zippered pocket as well. So anything you use to tie your stuff down you can keep it all in this bag that's got a really sturdy reinforced handle and it actually works pretty well for keeping everything together. As far as weight capacities go, the net itself is gonna have a safe working load limit of 700 pounds and then the cam-buckle straps included have a safe working load limit of 1,323 pounds. You'll always want to go by the lowest rated component in your system. So for us, that's the net and it does kind of lack in weight capacity compared to just running some ratchet straps over the top of your cargo and getting them strapped down. You can get much better capacities out of those. So where this is very convenient to just drape it over a large area of cargo like this and just get it strapped down real quick, it is going to kind of make up for that by not being as good on the weight capacity side. So depending on what you're hauling axis straps might be better but the convenience factor here is really nice if you can swing it with the weight. The straps themselves are 34 inches long at their peak so they're a little bit on the shorter side depending on the tie-downs you decide to use and how much overhang you have on your net. But for most applications we've been pretty okay with all of them. On here there's probably the least excess strap that we've had for all of the different variants we've tried but still enough to get a good hold. And with the excess strap, there's another grommet on there, you can just clip it into the carabiner end on the net and that'll help tie up your excess strap. And overall, I think this is a really solid solution for your trailer. If you're carrying anything that's weather sensitive, the waterproof coating on this works really well. We've poured water on it and it just repels right off and everything underneath stays very dry. The one limiting factor for me is that weight capacity like we mentioned before. Some solutions for that though, you could still use ratchet straps and secure all of your stuff that way and then drape this over the top for just some extra security, and that waterproof cover. This really beats just throwing a tarp over the top because of those metal reinforced grommets all throughout. So it makes it way easier to secure and makes it much more stable during the drive. But if you are just using this to tie your stuff down and weight capacity isn't a concern, I think that extra strap kit is a must. Just make sure that the middles of your tarp are secured. Otherwise though, that'll do it. I'm a big fan of these Gladiator nets and I think this one works really well for your larger utility trailers. Thanks for watching.

It’s great! I give it 4 stars because the double d-ring clips on the cam straps are really necessary for all for corners for easy setup when the truck bed is full, though. It’s an added expense but well worth it. Once it was lashed though I never worry about anything going anywhere.

Just returned from 2500 mile Montana hunt. Worked great in all weather conditions.
Would have liked an additional strap that I could have played in truck bed prior to loading and then after cargo loading could have strapped the center of tarpin wheel well area.

The materials and construction of this cargo net is solid. I use it on a ford ranger pick up -6 foot bed. It works great to secure and protect whatever you're hauling.

by:

Great product! Be sure to pickup extra tie downs. A set of four with cam locks come with the cover. There are about 100 eyelets to tie into.
