This fully welded trailer hitch receiver bolts onto your vehicle's frame with no welding required. Powder coated steel is sturdy and corrosion resistant.Great hitch. I’m an engineer who used to tow with a diesel, so I can speak to the quality of this hitch. Receiver-to-hitch-frame design is much more secure than competitors (welded to vertical flat bar brackets versus a slice of lateral angle iron that could bend and only relies on one weld). Bolts lined up perfectly and installation was smooth. I use it for a 2x bike rack or a tow ball. 2” receiver makes adapting easier than dinky 1-1/4” from Mazda. I also purchased a 7-way & 4-pin lighting kit and spliced into the tail-light circuit....CX-5’s aren’t rated high enough to need a brake controller so I’m set for whatever may come. Take your time and it’ll come out better than factory.
Really happy with this hitch receiver. I'm using it primarily for motorcycle haulers (rather than a trailer), so the tongue weight capacity was important for me. It's rock solid. The way it mounts to the frame makes it pretty easy to install, and to remove the captive nuts that you fish into the frame rails if you end up removing the receiver. I've already had it installed on two different cars in the year that I've had it, and it was pretty fast and easy to move it from one CX-5 to the other. The only downside is that the 2" receiver tube itself is welded just slightly off level (a few degrees clockwise from level), which would not be noticeable at all if you were connecting a trailer, but results in my bike haulers sitting slightly unlevel. Keep in mind if you plan on using it for bike haulers attachments. Overall, I'm really happy with it.
I usually don't have time to write a review. but because I really like how easy was the installation and the wiring instruction that you guys posted in your website. I am writing now to appreciate the business we done. the Hitch design and material well done.I received the items on time. the job took 2 hours for both hitch and wiring. you deserve 5 stars.
Appears to be a sturdy, solid hitch, and made in the USA- the best reasons for this purchase. I had my nephew install it on my 2019 Mazda CX-5. There was a little difficulty. He watched the videos and said the video differed in the position of the screws. I guess the video explained they were vertical in position but upon installation he said that they were horizontal which made installation a little more difficult. He’s a mechanically inclined guy, works on mining equipment trucks so I think his install perspective was about accurate. I will test the hitch out once my bike rack arrives but I have confidence in both the product and the installation.
Great Products! I like to think of myself as a pretty handy guy, install was was fairly easy. One step I had an issue with was getting to clear under and behind the bumper. Had to manipulate the rear plastic bumper to fit the hitch up and under, but other than that things went fairly well. Online video was very helpful. Overall time to install, start to finish took me approximately an hour.
Fit perfectly and instructions were really easy to fallow. I also took the the trailer connection one step further by buying an 4 pole flat mounting bracket and feeding it trough the driver’s side tail light wiring grommet.
I bought this hitch to use with a hitch-mounted bike rack. I don't have the bike rack yet, but the hitch looks great on my CX-5! I was originally planning on taking it to a shop to have it installed, but ended up installing it myself. My husband helped me lift it into place, but otherwise I installed it by myself in about an hour and half. The installation videos are definitely helpful! The shipping box that I received the hitch in had a giant hole in it that UPS (I assume) taped up, but the product was still in the box with no damage to the part that was exposed due to the hole. However, there were 2 large scratches on the receiver portion. The damaged area was covered in the tape that was used to secure the baggie of instructions and hardware to the hitch, so it appears that the scratches were already there before the product was boxed up. I still installed the hitch anyway, but have some concerns about rust in those 2 spots.
This hitch fit my 2018 Mazda CX-5 perfectly. The instruction were clear and accurate. It did take me longer than the “novice” installation time prediction. Here are my installation observations: 1) make sure the hitch sits above the bumper so it slides in correctly 2) use some liquid detergent or rubber lube to slide the rubber hangers back onto their posts 3) have someone help you because at 51 lbs. the hitch is hard to handle by oneself 4) the included guide wires are extremely helpful; a mirror and flashlight helps get the holes and bolt lined up correctly The hitch arrive soon after ordering it. Overall, I am completely satisfied with my experience with etrailer.
Simple and straight forward. Pulled a couple clips, deleted a trim piece, loosened the muffler hangers, and bolted hitch in to place. With the help of a friend in 1 hours time it was done. Extremely simple, straight forward, no gotchas. 2020 Mazda CX5
Instructions were simple & video was excellent. I am a 26 year old female with no automotive experience & I was able to do this project easily (I just had my boyfriend help me lift it into place so we could put the first 2 bolts in). I recommend renting a torque wrench from AutoZone or any auto parts store. Now to install the wiring!
My first purchase from etrailer was 10 years ago. I can't imaging buying a hitch anywhere else. The reviews helped me decide which of their 4 offerings I wanted to buy. The decision between 1.25" and 2" was fairly simple. If you don't have a clearance problem, a 2" receiver has more accessories available and is arguably stronger. The other choice was 3 fasteners on the underside versus 2 along the sides. Normally, I would prefer more fasteners. However, it appeared that installation using 2 fasteners would allow me to do the job single-handedly by installing one fastener on each side and "pivoting" the hitch into place. This worked well as I was able to use a scissors jack under the receiver. A bit of prying on plastic trim made the job simple. I did not even need to elevate the vehicle.
One man with floor jack 3 hrs with a couple of great videos beforehand. Great product for the 2018 cx-5! Actually the best video was for a 2020. NOTE: On mine there were 4 rubber hangers not 2. Might buy the bike rack from etrailer also!
Great product. An exact fit for my 2015 Cx-5. Bolt on goodness. It wasn’t difficult at all to install. A friend and I were able to bolt it on in about 40 minutes, it is kinda heavy. The videos from etrailer were especially helpful and accurate. The package arrived very quickly. About 2 days I think. Very sturdy product. Holds my bike rack no problem, maybe even a small trailer, could even get that boat I’ve always wanted? ?? Only one small issue, when I received the box the hitch was poking out. Not sure if that happened when I picked it up or if it happened sometime on the delivery route. Hat being said it was not damaged at all. Not a scratch so it’s pretty strong. I would definitely purchase this product or any other from etrailer again. Good customer service too.
The product is very good! Only reason I gave this 4 stars and not 5 is the instructions seemed to be a little wordy and weren't as simple as I thought they could be. After I read the instructions several times it was clear. Only other thing that made the process take longer was dropping the exhaust. Overall is a very simple install. Just take your time and read the instructions over a few times if needed.
The Curt class 3 trailer hitch for my CX-5 arrived quickly, even via ground service. I needed a friend for a few minutes to help hold one end when I was ready to bolt it to the car but otherwise, the instruction video made the installation easy enough to do mostly by myself. The Hopkins wiring harness for the trailer hitch took much longer to install. Running a wire under the car to connect to the battery is really difficult without a lift.
The hitch arrived in fairly decent shape although its not well secured in the box so it bounces around and pokes holes in the box which is unnecessary. The instructions are precise and very well presented, so as long as you prepare in advance by studying them, you should have very few issues. The installation went very well for me but i would highly recommend ramps to jack up the back a foot or so. Overall i am very pleased with the outcome.
2” hitch for a 2016 Mazda CX-5. Processing and shipment were astoundingly fast! Hitch was exactly as represented and in perfect condition with all necessary parts. Installation was straightforward, but definitely a two-person job. WATCH the vehicle specific video (and take notes)! The little tricks — like taping the washers in place on the hitch — are the difference between smooth success and getting brain damage! One minor critique — and this applies to the Curt hitch instructions — there are different torque specifications for the front (XXft-lbs) and rear (XXXft-lbs) fasteners, with rear meaning the hex nut closest to the bumper. I think what I just wrote would be understandable by most humans — the instructions say something far more cryptic like torque the M12 to XXft-lbs and the ½” to XXXft-lbs — which would be illuminating to someone who knows the difference between a M12 faster and an ½” faster — but that person certainly wasn’t me. It took about fifteen minutes to figure it out and it’s something that needs to be correct from a safety and security standpoint. Bottom line - etrailer is a wonderful vendor, Curt makes a fine, stout hitch, but a little room for improvement is possible in the docs!
This Curt hitch fit perfectly on my Mazda CX-5. It's a class 3 hitch and constructed very sturdy. The hitch hides almost entirely behind the rear bumper except for the receiver. The video of how to install the hitch on my vehicle was very helpful and it showed exactly what needed to be done. Would definitely recommend this hitch for a Mazda CX-5.
Despite a pandemic, hurricanes, forest fires, social unrest, and political oppression etrailer still got the product to me in a timely fashion with all the pieces, good instructions, and the new Mazda CX5 is now ready to tow the toys. After hiding for months, we look forward to some walks in the woods, bikes on the trails, and weekends next to a lake with just the 2 of us and a beautiful scene.
It’s not so easy to install but it can be done if I did it. Follow the video provided on etrailer. Ver satisfied with the product.
Took less than 1 hour to install the hitch. Removed the muffler to install the hitch and that made access to the frame 100% easier since I didn't have a lift. Haven't towed anything yet but from past experience dealing with Etrailer; their products have been trouble free and durable. Instructions were great and so was the video; everything was as described in both.
I was extremely impressed by the professionalism of this company. My purchasing of the correct hitch was guided by the site video, actual purchasing was simple and the hitch arrived at my doorstep in a matter of days, hard to beat that.
Year later and it is still a solid hitch, looks good, and continues to do what it is designed to do. Solid product.
The hitch fit my 2014 Mazda CX-5 without any trouble. The video was right on and the hitch is made quite heavy-duty. It is hidden very well and carries the bike rack well. It is hard to find a 2 inch receiver for this car and the Mazda factory hitch is 1 1/4 receiver and about $300 with out install. Dealer would not toss in the hitch on my purchase so I installed yours in about 1/2 hour at less than half the cost.
Ordered the leading competing hitch from another source. When received it looked like it was welded on a Friday. the face plate was crooked by a quarter inch and the receiver box had been welded at an equal angle to make the finished product straight. The other source stated the first hitch had to be received before they would ship a replacement. I immediately ordered the Curt hitch from etrailer.com. The product is excellent. Looks great and installed easily.
