Today we're going to review part number Y05000. This is the Yakima Load Stop brackets for Yakima roof rack cross bars. These L shaped brackets will attach to your Yakima roof rack round cross bars and they allow you to carry a multitude of items including ladders, canoes and lumber. These brackets will prevent lateral shifts in your cargo and handle thicker, taller loads with high vertical ledges. These sturdy L shape brackets will mount on Yakima round roof rack cross bars. It is made of a hard plastic construction.
Now on the very top and the side is a gripping ribbed surface. This will allow the load you will be carrying to not shift on your roof. They are very rigid to help brace objects and they are very resilient to protect your delicate surfaces. These are compatible with heavy duty straps and the bow stern tie downs which we sell separately. This part number will contain four brackets.
It will contain the four wing nuts and the washers and bolts to attach it to your Yakima roof rack cross bar. This does come with a limited lifetime warranty. I have an example here of a Yakima round cross bar. Now the feet are in more than normal because I'm just putting it in the video. On your vehicle they would extend out more, but basically you just take the load stop bracket, which is you can see here.
Attach it to your round cross bar, attach the other one and then you'll just move these in or out depending on the load you'll be carrying. Then basically you just take the washers off the carriage bolt, slide it through, put your washers on, put your wing nut on, and snug it down. That will hold that bracket into place and you'd do the same on the other side. Install the wing nut, snug it down, you don't need to over tighten it. That will hold your load on your roof rack and then you'd use the straps and the tie downs to attach your load to the roof rack.

I bought the YO5000 Load Stop brackets to use as gunwale brackets for carrying a 17 foot canoe. They are less expensive and simpler in design than the Yakima "gunwale brackets" that are also available. They are a very flexible and well designed bracket that gets the gunwales up off the crossbars and stabilizes your boat once you have it tied down across the bars and fore and aft to the vehicle frame. They also are flexible enough to snap right over the crossbars for easy mounting. However, if you are using a Yakima fairing on your bars and you are carrying something that is less than around 32.5" wide, the brackets and fairing clamps will interfere with each other. You could probably trim the ends of the blocks a bit if you're close to 32" or remove the fairing when you're carrying a narrow load, or place the blocks in-between the fairing clamps and carry the load off-center. I'll be making one of these choices when carrying my boat, which is 32" wide where it needs to mount on the front bar. The Yakima "Gunwale Brackets" look like they may have a shorter base which might allow for a narrower mount when using a fairing.

I needed new foot pads for my Yakima towers and the new ones went on like a glove. I also do construction and I never knew about the item #Y05000 (Yakima LoadStop Brackets) for my roof rack crossbars, very impressive.
Nice product.
My 18.5 foot canoe was overhanging both ends of my SUV because the crossbars were only 3.5 feet apart. And, it was noisy at highways speeds. Also, not good for the boat.
This drydock works great, and the highway experience is much quieter. Seems sturdy and safe.
