2007 Toyota Highlander

I purchased the Curt receiver hitch and the wiring package for a 2007 Toyota Highlander with the factory tow package. Bottom line, if you have a full size spare, THIS HITCH WILL NOT FIT. You cannot seat a full size spare with this hitch as it blocks the tire from seating into position. The wiring package received looks correct, but the connectors do not fit together. I have been on the phone with Curt about this, and they are sending a replacement out. I would never have purchased this product at all had I realized it wouldn't allow me to seat the spare tire once installed. Photo attached showing the problem (blocked access by hitch). 429010

Comments
You will still be able to access the spare tire on your 2007 Toyota Highlander after installing Curt Class III Trailer Hitch 13530. If you refer to the linked photo you can see the hitch and tire positions after installation. The spare can be removed for a tire change by simply letting the forward edge first and then maneuvering the tire past the exhaust and the hitch cross tube.

I chose the trailer hitch receiver by Curt over Hidden Hitch and Draw-Tite for three reasons. One, the receiver design has a more finished look, especially around the tailpipe. Two, after watching the installation videos for the H.H. and D-T. which both showed some alignment issues with the factory anchor holes. And three is a bonus, it was less expensive. I am very satisfied with the look, very unobtrusive, and installation was a snap. My only criticism is that I wish Curt had the extra hole for using the J-pin design locking hitch pin with the anti-rattle feature...much better than other anti-rattle hitch products. Research and ordering from etrailer.com was a breeze...a very satisfied customer. 28851

Wanted this hitch for bike rack only - no towing anticipated. Easy to remove existing bolts and discard. New (supplied) bolts effective. Only thing negative is corrugated box got banged up which means the product suffered minor scratching. Entire process took 2 of us 25 minutes. If you are trying to do this by yourself you'll need a jack stand. Shimmying the box for one side is - maybe - effective, but I would not recommend... all in all good product and value. Hitch is pretty heavy... all good. A big + was install video. Helpful 389622

2006 Lexus RX 330

I installed the Curt brand hitch I purchased from etrailer on my 2006 Lexus RX 330. It took about 30 minutes. I've done it several times. The hitch timely arrived and was packed properly and in excellent condition, as always. I removed the hitch from the packaging and used the cardboard packaging as a mat, to lay on while I worked. I removed the existing factory tie-downs from the car; one on each side, two bolts in each of them. I removed a rubber "plug" on each side, too. I used a lubricant in each of the holes where I removed a plug, and tested a bolt in the same holes to make sure the bolt turned in easily. I supported one end of the hitch with wood blocks, then lifted the other side and started a bolt. Then I started a bolt in the side with the wood blocks. I put the remaining bolts into the existing holes and tightened them all, rotating among the bolts and lifting on the hitch. No drilling, only needed sockets and extensions. It all worked well. Thank you etrailer (again) for a great product, great service and a fair price! 670211

2005 Toyota Highlander

I got the hitch a year ago and the wiring harness. The harness is still sitting in the box because I have not towed a trailer which is what i originally got the items for. I however have been using the hitch to carrier a dirtbike on a carrier hitch. The bike is 300lbs and the hitch has not problem with just the bolts holding it in. I have also been pulled out of some pretty hairy situations with the holes in the hitch which hold nicely. Great product on a 2005 toyota highlander non-tow edition awd v6 897584

Awesome hitch, I paid extra for the 4-6 day shipping was only $8 or so. It actually came in 4 days! I was blown away, All my local shops had to bring in a hitch from out of state, I was quoted 7 days to ship then another 2 days to install. One place quoted $1600 for hitch and wiring... This came fast, easy install with instructions. Anyone can install if physically able, its heavy. You could also use a jack to hold it up while you bolt it in. 863626

Trailer hitch was an exact fit. I was able to install by myself using a pair of jack stands to hold up the hitch to insert the bolts into the truck frame. Ordering was easy and complete package was received with in 5 days with free shipping. I also ordered the trailer wiring kit and was surprised that it included everything you need to install from wire connectors, zip ties, self tapping grounding screw and double sided tape to secure the kit. I also had to contact customer service as I forgot to order the hitch pin. Customer service was very helpful and responsive and was able to have to pin added to the order and all shipped together. All was securely packaged in one box. If you’re in the market for a hitch, I highly recommend etrailer.com. 860976

  • Curt Trailer Hitch Touching Spare Tire on 2008 Lexus RX 350
Thank you for the photo; unfortunately there really is no "fix" for the Curt Trailer Hitch # 13530 touching the spare tire on your 2008 Lexus RX 350. While I can understand wanting to lower the spare a bit during the install, that can cause an issue like what you are experiencing. The spare tire is going to be directly above this hitch cross tube and so long as both the hitch and spare are properly secured and the hitch was torqued to the specs in the directions it is perfectly secure and...

  • How To Add An Anti-Rattle Device On the Curt Hitch for a 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13530 is an excellent option for a 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. It offers bolt-on installation with no cutting or drilling required and has plenty of strength for a bike rack or towing if needed. In regards to anti-rattle compatibility, this is not as straight forward as you'd think because most bike racks use a specific threaded hitch pin. If the bike rack however has a hollow shank and non-threaded hitch pin then you can use a device such as...

  • Hitch and Cargo Carrier Recommendation for 2006 Toyota Highlander that Sits Above Exhaust
The Curt trailer hitch part # 13530 is a great choice for your 2006 Toyota Highlander for carrying a cargo carrier. Since hitch adapters cut the capacity of the hitch they are installed in by 50 percent the best choice is to go with a carrier that has the needed rise built into it. I recommend going with the Rola Dart Cargo Carrier # 59550 which has a shank rise of 4-1/2 inches which would easily put the cargo above the exhaust.

I would recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75153 over the Curt # 13530 for your 2009 Lexus RX 350. Curt has been revising their instructions on many hitches to include that per their warranty with any non-trailer load, like bike rack or cargo carrier, you will need to use a stabilization strap like # 18050, but the Draw-Tite brand does not require this. I currently don't see that note for this hitch yet, but for a few extra bucks, in my opinion its worth the piece of mind to go...
