Question:
Im interested in a trailer hitch for my 2004 Lexus AWD. A big concern I have is if a transmission cooler is recommended. I will be pulling an 850lb rental trailer and around 1000lb max worth of cargo. Also, will I need a weight distribution system installed? Im not sure if my vehicles rear will sag but I would like to prevent this. Thanks

For a hitch, I'd recommend the Curt Class III trailer hitch, part # 13530. This hitch is compatible with AWD RX330 models, except for models with the air suspension. To complete your towing system, you'll also need a few other items:
Trailer wiring harness, part # 118478
Ball mount/trailer ball kit, part # 989900
My research indicates that the RX330 has a maximum 3500lb towing capacity, so the trailer and its cargo aren't pushing the capacity. If you'll be towing a weight like this frequently over hilly terrain, a transmission cooler would be a smart addition. The most efficient spot to install a cooler is directly behind the grille, in front of the radiator. You'll want to choose a cooler whose dimensions will fit in the available space. The # D13502 would be a likely choice, but you'd want to make sure you have room to accommodate its 11 inch by 7-1/4 inch dimensions. If towing this trailer is a one-time deal, over flat terrain, you should be fine without a cooler.
Any time a the fully loaded trailer weighs more than 50 percent of the fully loaded vehicle weight, we recommend using a weight distribution system. Your trailer is a couple of hundred pounds shy of that mark, and since the tongue weight of the trailer would be less than 300 lbs in the worst-case scenario, I don't believe a weight distribution system would be necessary.
