Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

The pewag Snox Pro chains are great winter weather chains if you live in an area where you're likely to get periodic snow and ice. They're durable, give you constant traction - and they're lightweight and compact, so they store in your vehicle nicely too. If you're more likely to see seriously icy conditions, you may want a chain with V-bar links that can really bite into the ice to give you maximum traction.

With these chains, installation is a snap. There's no need to crawl around on the ground to make connections - just tug the chains around your tire to get them into place, and then drive off. The Snox will self-tension while you're driving to tighten perfectly around your tires. Once you stop driving, the tensioners release, making these chains equally simple and quick to pull off when you reach dry pavement.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installation of pewag Snox Pro Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains

Grasp both ends of the red cord and pull outward to activate the self-tensioning system

1. Grasp the red cord on each side of the self-tensioning device and pull outward to activate.

Place the red self-tensioning system at the back of the tire and drape the chain along the face of the wheel to position the red bungee at the bottom of the tire

2. Position the red cord over your tire, pulling it to the back. Then tug the cord down to fit it around the bottom of the tire.

3. Drive forward 1/4 of a tire revolution, keeping your wheels straight.

Once the bungee has been placed completely around the tire, pull on your assembly to make sure the chains are snug

4. Pull the rest of the chain around your tire so that the cross chains are positioned on top of the tire tread.

5. Once the chains are properly positioned, drive forward. The Snox Pro chains will automatically tighten and center themselves as you drive. No manual adjustment is necessary.

Tensioners automatically disengage

The tensioners automatically disengage when your car comes to a stop. To remove the chains, you can simply pull them off, or you can press the quick-release latch, which provides more slack in the chains to allow even faster removal.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

  • Do Pewag Snox Pro Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains Fit 2015 Mercedes E350 with Tire Size 265/35-18
The short answer is yes, the Pewag Tire Chains part # PWSXP570 do fit your tire size of 265/35-18 and will work well for you. Our fitguide for tire chains and vehicles is organized by the tire sizes we know the vehicle would have came with. In your situation we weren't aware that your vehicle would have that tire size so it's currently showing that this size isn't correct for your vehicle. The reality is that it does fit the size you have and your vehicle so it will work well for you. I...

  • Recommended Tire Chains for a 2024 Subaru Forester
For your 2024 Subaru Forester I recommend checking out the pewag Snox Pro Tire Chains # PWSXP570. These tire chains are super easy to install - having personally installed these myself, are self tensioning, and is confirmed to fit your tires.

  • Snow Chains for 2014 Ford F-450 Super Duty
I took a look at the owners manual for the 2014 Ford F-450 and though it did not specify where you should put the chains, it did say they were okay to use as long as the were Class S Compatible. And chains are by far a better option than cables; the ones you want are going to depend on your tire size. I've added a link that will take you to the page where you can input your tire size to lead you to the correct snow chains.

  • Recommended Snow Tire Chains For 225/60R17 Tires On 2014 Subaru Forester
By far, the best class S chains for a 225/60R17 tire are the Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link - K-Summit - Size K45 # TH02230K45. These chains have ice breakers, have zero clearance needed on the inside and are self adjusting. These are the best of the best whether you needed class s chains or not. A second best option I also recommend are the Pewag Snox Pro Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link - 1 Pair # PWSXP570....

  • Tire Chain Recommendations for a 2014 Infiniti Q60
There were at least 4 possible stock tire size options for the 2014 Infiniti Q60. I show that it could have 225/45-19, 225/50-18, 245/40-19, or 245/45-18 tires. Check the tire sidewall on your Q60 to determine the size. This will ensure you get the right size chains for that tire size. If you have 225/45-19 tires I recommend the Konig D-link chains # TH2004705235. The D-links provide excellent traction and they are Class S rated for vehicles with limited clearance around the tires. I also...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation that Fits Tire Size 225/60-18
We do have a similar great set of tire chains that fit your tire size of 225/60R18 but the ones you referenced are not a fit. Instead you would want the part # TH01571245 which is a fit for your tire size and would work well. You would need to consult the owners manual of your vehicle to verify if there are any tire chain restrictions.

  • Tire Chains that Can Fit Tire Sizes 235/55R19 and 225/50R18
The Pewag tire chains part # PWSXP570 actually do not fit either of the tire sizes you mentioned. For the 235/55R19 of the Audi you could use the pewag Brenta-C part # PWXMR80V. This does not fit the 225/50R18 size though so for that you could use the Konig set part # TH01221104 for the most similar set. Tire chains fit a really narrow size range which is why one size does not fit all unfortunately.

  • Recommendation of Tire Snow Chains for a 2015 Subaru Forester 2.0 XT with 225/55R18 Tires
The snow chains I recommend for your 2015 Subaru Forester are the Pewag Snox # PWSXP570 because the diamond-pattern, square-link chains provide excellent traction in snow and ice. It's recommended to put the first set of chains on the primary drive wheels. Always check your vehicle owners manual to ensure there are no restrictions on use of tire chains. I have included a few FAQ's about install tips and snow chains as well as a couple installation videos for you.

If you have the 215/75-15 size tires on your 1998 Chevrolet Astro then I recommend using the Pewag Snox Pro Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # PWSXP570 because they are easy to install and feature square links in a diamond pattern for great traction. For a more cost-effective option I recommend the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains # TC1138 which uses twist links in a ladder pattern. • Recommended Tire Chains For 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS550 With 245/45-R18 Tires
Your CLS requires Class S tire chains because of clearance. Per the owner's manual tire chains can only be used on the rear tires. The snow chains I recommend are the Pewag Snox Pro Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains, part # PWSXP570. To make sure you have the clearance for these chains you can take a couple of quick measurements. I have attached a photo that shows where you can measure to make sure you have the room. You will need at lease 1.47 inches between the top of the tire tread...
