Form meets function in Konig's K-Summit tire chains. Unlike typical snow chains, the K-Summit chains require no attachments behind the wheel. Simply place two of the traction plates on top of the tire and fasten the K-Summit to the wheel's lug nut or bolt with the easy-to-use fixing key. Activate the chain's ratcheting mechanism and you'll be ready to roll. As you drive away, the traction plates clamp onto the tire surface, and the chain adjusts to conform to the tire perfectly, providing a precise fit even on worn tires. After use, fold up the tire chains and store them in the compact, reusable carrying case.

The K-Summit delivers an extremely user-friendly design. Each chain sits on top of your tire's treads instead of wrapping around the entire wheel. This design not only eliminates the threat of scratches to your wheels, but it also ensures that there is no interference with any suspension or braking components on the inside of the wheel well.

Konig snow chains are handmade in Italy of hardened manganese-nickel alloy steel for durability. The reduced-clearance, D-shape links provide superior traction for excellent grip on snow and ice. The durable plastic traction plates have metal studs to give you superior grip while also providing a high level of driving comfort.

K-Summit Installation

How to Install the K-Summit Snow Chain:

  1. Lay 2 of the chains traction plates on top of the tire.
  2. Attach chain to 1 wheel nut.
  3. Activate the ratchet, which tightens as you drive away.

K-Summit Lug Nut Adapter

Lug Nut Adapter

Attach the lug nut adapter that matches your wheel bolt size to the fixing key. The most commonly used adapters are included with your K-Summit snow chains. (etrailer.com's custom fitguide will indicate whether your vehicle requires an adapter that is sold separately.) The fixing key then mounts to the wheel bolt on the end where the adapter has been affixed. The other end attaches to the K-Summit base, which includes the ratcheting mechanism that tensions the chains as you drive.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates the width
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel expressed in inches

Video Transcript for Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains Review

Adam: Hi everyone. Adam with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Konig K Summit XXL premium self-tensioning snow tire chains. So at first glance you guys are probably thinking this isn't your basic tire chain. It really isn't it's actually interesting how it works. Basically it's going to be easier than most to put on.

Once you find the proper tool that comes with our kit to fit around your lug nut you basically put half of it on, tighten that down, it's just a ratcheting strap here, and then roll over it and it actually just does it by itself. It just goes around and then you come out and check it and tie it down some more.We are going to have a D link shapes for our tire chains and it's going to make a diamond pattern here. It also has some steel plates that it's going to be great for icebreakers basically just going in and breaking up all that ice so you're not just sitting there and sliding. And these plates right here are going to be made of plastic but they have I would call them studs or rivets and basically that's going to grip that ice or snow a little bit better than this plastic and it's going to help keep this plastic going for a decently long time. Between the shape of the links and the pattern of which they go around your tire I think they're going to definitely get you to and from your destination pretty safely, good starts, good stops, good turns.

And these are going to be able to fit on your rear wheel drive and of course your front wheel drive and obviously all four of them as well for your four wheel drive or all wheel drive applications. So between it being pretty easy to install compared to some of the other ladder pattern style chains you're also going to be staying on the outside of your wheel and you're not going to be having to actually lay down on the snow to get behind your tire and link all of those links behind your tire in your wheel well. In my opinion that is probably one of the most ideal things for me if I was buying tire chains just because if I'm installing tire chains there's probably going to be snow on the ground and I don't want to be laying in that to get everything hooked up and then go back in my car and get everything all gross. This way you just put it on there, you're staying outside. You don't have to worry about any of those sensors or wires in the back of your wheel well. And it's actually even easier to get them off. It's just a normal ratchet strap and go like that.

You're going to see it loosen up a little bit and once you get that somewhat loose you can go in there and actually loosen and take off this bolt. And once you get that done you'll have less tension and you can go ahead and work these off. Once you get most of them off we are going to have to roll over them a little bit obviously to get the bottom chains off of our tire. But all you got to do is just get in your car and just roll over it and you'll come back out and both of them they'll be out. But I do suggest undoing all of them on all the tires you install these on just so you only have to go in your car once, roll over them and take them off.So once you just roll off of them a little bit obviously we're going to be able to grab it and put it all back together and it folds up pretty nicely actually especially compared to the ladder style chains.

Those are a pain to keep unraveled. And in my opinion this is a pretty hefty bag. It's not just cloth or canvas and it actually has hard plastic on the inside. I would definitely say this is one of the best bags that comes with any tire chains that we carry here. Just put those back in and zip it up.And it really isn't too difficult to install these even if you're doing it on four wheels on your vehicle so let's just go ahead and do it together. So, the first thing we're going to want to do is grab our bag here and grab the instructions. So we are dealing with the K67 size of these Konig chains and basically what we're going to do is we're going to see if we have to adjust the chains for them to be able to fit our tires here. So, as you can see here up top we are using the K67 XXLs and the tire size on our vehicle here is going to be a 245 65 R16 so you just locate that there. So, we are going to have to remove one of these links here. So, if you don't know your tire size off the top of your head basically it's going to be along the rim of your vehicle. It's going to be a three number, and then a two number, and then an R and then that's going to be your rim size. It may start with a P or an LT something like that but it's usually always going to be around the rim. So these green/yellow neon indicators here these are going to be the ones that we're going to be removing if we are told to do so after looking up our tire size in the instructions. So the tools are included with the kit. We're going to get one to go over our nylon lock nut on this side and an Allen key to go on this side. It doesn't matter which one you do it just needs to have this neon indicator in the middle here and it's pretty self explanatory, put one in on one side and then loosen the other until it completely comes off. So once we get this nylon lock nut off you can go ahead and just remove that little link there. As you can see it just basically just spreads that out just so it can fit your tire size and it's not going to affect anything. So I do suggest that you put these back together and put it in your kit just in case you do change tire sizes down the road.So if you have a plate covering up your lug nuts we are going to be having to access those. So, just grab any sort of tool here. I'm actually just using the Allen key provided but I might have to go ahead and grab a Phillips if it doesn't come off that easily. So, now we can go ahead and pick the appropriate size for our lug nuts here and we just want them to fit on there. As you can see here this is going to be the one that's going to fit on there the best. As you can see it goes all the way up to it like that. Not with a whole lot of force, it doesn't take a whole lot but the ones that you won't be using on this just so you guys can see what it looks like basically. Obviously that's way too much play and obviously this one is just a little snug. You don't really want it to have to actually push on there and pull it off. So we're definitely going to go with this size here. This fits it real snug like. Put that on there. So now we can go ahead and actually take our chains here and fold them out like so and start fishing them around our tire here making sure that everything's not all kinked up. And we're obviously not going to be able to get all of it around our tire but we are going to get enough just to get at least 60% of that tire covered for now. So now we can go ahead and take this plastic section. It's on the little strap here. We're going to take one of our included bolts and thread it in. But as you can see now how it's going to sit it is going to be really close to our rim. So pre installed on this plastic piece here when you get it out of the box you're going to have a spacer and a bolt. So basically we want to pick the right spacer to be able to thread that in and we're going to have a decent amount of clearance here at least about an inch and I'm actually going to go ahead and go with the larger spacers that come in our little bag.And then of course we will have to grab a longer bolt that's in the bag as well. So this way when we put that on there we're going to have plenty of room in between our rim and our plastic tool here. Just thread that on and as you thread it on it's going to basically grab onto your lug nut and keep it into place. So now what we want to do is set our tensioner basically on one of our lug nuts facing towards the center hub cap of our wheel. Now once you do that you can go ahead and tighten it down and the reason for this being is as you can see this ratchet strap does pull on this strap and we want it to be pretty close to the center just to give us a lot of strength and tension without putting a lot of strain on these chains. You want to get it pretty tight, get it real nice and snug, but don't over tighten these. So once you go ahead and roll over them a couple of times you come back out and make sure that it's nice and seated into place and if everything seems to be in order then you're pretty much ready to go. And again, that's basically all you really need to know for the Konig K Summit XXL premium self-tensioning snow tire chains.

I only used it one time during the year, but it sure came in handy. It is particularly useful for me because of the very limited space in the wheel well of the Genesis coup. Fitting to the lug bolt was a little tricky but did work. I try to travel into the Rockies at least once a winter so that’s why I bought the chains 590778

Great product and fast shipping from etrailer. I purchased the Konig K-Summit chains for my 2011 BMW 535i. They are easy to install and take off. Make sure you install the chains at home before you need them. The lug nut attachments that came in the box would not fit the lug nuts on my cars wheel, so I had to obtain an attachment that did fit. Do not exceed 30MPH when the chains are installed. The chains will come apart and damage your car if you exceed the speed restriction. Unfortunately, this happened to me when using my first pair of Thule K-Summit chains - new tire and body damage $2,000. But if you stay below 30MPH , the chains are great. 348371

After having a hard time figuring out how to assembly it due to lack of written instructions along with the illustration, I was able to mount them with technical help from the manufacurer engineering dept. I am very unsure if I made a good choice in purchasing this product. I was led by the marketing of easiness of installation. Now I realize that if one link on the chain breaks, the whole chain safety is compromise whereas in a standard cheaper model (+- $40) you can just remove one link across the tire and replace it easily. According to Tech. dept. from Thule if on single linkin this chain breaks you can use an emmergency link tighted with plier, but the chain needs to be mailed back to Thurle for repair or replacement. This is a hassle for such a high priced, premium, "ahead of time design". Sure the idea is good, but needs improvement. The same design that makes it easy of use, renders it useless in case of a broken link. I have not driven with them on snow, but I already see its flaw and I am unsure if I made a wise investment. It came with one year warranty, but you get the hassle of having to return them for replacement while you go to Pep Boys and buy a cheaper reliable cable chain while the white elephant is in the shop. What if it breaks after the one year warranty? Waht happened to your U$ 405 plus shipping investment that should bring you peace of mind? These are a few thought I want to share with you. Have a great day. 8216

Fits tight as a drum! The K44 is nice and snug on my 19’s. Kinda nervous about the stress on the tensioning strap and lug nut clinchers, but these things will be sweet if the Engineers did their job right! Only plan to use these for a few miles at a time, so if all goes well they’ll last me a good long while 454929

Review from a similar Konig K-Summit in Tire Chains

The Konig self-tensioning snow chains I purchased were easy to install and worked great. However, I only used them once as a test to check them out. It had snowed just before I received them so the timing was great. I live in an area (East Tennessee) that has steep grades so I tested the chains on the grades-forward and backward while moving, stopped on the steepest grade and able to drive away without slipping, and effective when stopping. The chains were also easy to remove. I've done a lot of driving in the snow all over the US and also in Canada using a variety of chains including ice chains with v bars. The Konig chains were by far the easiest chains I've ever had to install. Incidentally, I have a Trail Rated 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited vehicle which I believe worked nicely to enhance the capabilities of both the Jeep and the chains. 597360

Hi Patrick, Maybe its global warming but I havent had any snow required for my Konig chains. However, after my previous excellent experience that I wrote about, Im pretty sure they will work fine if needed. Many thanks for keeping in touch. Best wishes, Gary

Review from a similar Konig K-Summit in Tire Chains

These things are awesome. Tahoe snow is wet and it freezes. Chains in general are a pita but these are super easy to put on and take off. No tension or torque wrench needed. They self adjust and are quick to put on. Practice first so you can pull out any of the interior links and get the fit right but after that you’re rocking and rolling. I’ve got them on my 2018 Audi Q7 with 20” All Weather run flats. I had to remove one or two of the width adjusting screws. 732903

Review from a similar Konig K-Summit in Tire Chains

Purchased these awesome chains because my 2019 traverse has custom wheels (wider) so traditional chains/cables that wrap around the wheels would cause damage to my brake components. The instructions in the manual can be a little confusing but read and watch the tutorial video and you'll be good to go. I had to remove the exact amount of bolts from the chains it recommended in the manual for my wheels, 5 if I remember correctly. After a couple dry runs installing/removing at home I was ready for big bear. The family and I spent Thanksgiving up on big bear and yes, it snowed A LOT!! The chains worked great and along with a lot of looks from other drivers, I even got compliments from the locals there that obviously are used to driving with chains. When it came time to take them off halfway down the mountain, it was super fast and easy I was done in no time. NOTE: the bolt that goes over the lug nut leaves an indentation on your lug nuts, especially if your vehicle has the chrome finished ones like mine does. Have to buy a new set of front wheel lug nuts and use the old ones for when we drive up to the snow again and use these cool chains! 729961

Review from a similar Konig K-Summit in Tire Chains

Had these K-Summit "chains" for a Toyota Corolla for 5+ years, and they worked so well that I immediately bought a new pair to fit my 2013 Honda Accord (different tire size), and they also work great. Used them the other day in 6" of unplowed snow, on the hill I live on. As long as you go slow (I usually drive < 25 MPH) they just keep moving you forward. Two quick notes: 1) I noticed going uphill that my wheels started skidding, then stopping, and repeated that annoying cycle, which made it harder than usual to continue moving forward. I quickly figured out that this was the way the anti-spin system worked on the car (which doesn't want you to spin your wheels). I disabled that and that odd behavior stopped. 2) The fitting guide, which tells you how many "links" or "regulation elements" (as the instructions calls them) to remove to fit the chain to the tire, is assuming you're placing them on all-season tires. When you use snow tires, as I do, you have to remove more links to get the chain to fit correctly. This is not a problem, but it's useful to know. The representative from Thule, the company from whom I bought my original set, admitted that they should mention this in the instruction guide. 585054

Still great! Didn’t need them that often last season, but always nice to know they’re in the trunk if I do. Never been unable to complete trip with these “chains” attached.

The instructions for chain fittings and installation were detailed and understandable. The only problem was removing regulation elements for adjusting chain dimension. The nut with "lock tight" required a vise grip because the hex tool would strip the element. The chains are ready for snow and ice to come. 454801

So far so good. I’m waiting for snow before I give 5 stars. It’s recommended you fit the chains before you actually need them to get familiar with the innovative design. I had to remove all 5 yellow bolts since my wheels are larger. Keep the extra hardware but you won’t need them unless you change cars. Once fitted you’re good to go. Wear gloves to mount them in about 5 minutes. I 724776

I did need to adjust the "chains" for my tire size. It was easy to do with the supplied tools. They are indeed easy to put on and take off. The tension mechanism works great for keeping them on. The first time you put them on, you might wonder if you've done it correctly? Of course, you should practice once before you leave home. They are not "chains"; they don't rattle! 460101

Tested it out on a new vehicle at home and it was a pretty straight forward fit. Just make sure you have the right lug nut attachment and spacers set up and the rest is easy. More importantly, Adam at eTrailer was awesome. Helped me make sure what I needed (very last minute) for our vehicle and tires and was super friendly doing so. Review from a similar Konig K-Summit in Tire Chains

I have a 2019 Subaru Forester. I purchased these based on the recommendations and information provided by this site. The Call Center rep was extremely helpful in finalizing more order by making sure it should be compatible with my vehicle and discussing shipping options. As for the tire chains, they fit well once I figured out how to install them. They are very easy to install once you get them adjusted for your tire and find the right fit combination between the lug nut size and the spacers. The only main issue I have is with the tire size and the recommended sizing of the tires. The instruction manual recommended removing one of the pins to allow for more chain radius. However, I had to remove six to get the chains on properly. However, once that was complete, the chains are incredibly easy to put on. The winch works well pulling the chains snug to the tires and is easy to adjust. Releasing is a little harder, but still easy. 609457

Review from a similar Konig K-Summit in Tire Chains

I appreciate the follow up to ask about my experience and to be honest I'm a little disappointed. I only needed the chains for a short drive (about 2 miles at most) last year and they worked as advertised. That's great. However- this year I needed them for a similarly short period - only a few miles - and one fell off whilst I was on the highway. I didn't notice at first but a passing motorist flagged me down. I had to walk over a mile on a dangerous stretch of highway, in the snow and ice to retrieve it. I had read reviews of others who had lost their chains whilst driving, chalking it up to user error, but now I know different!! 351678

Review from a similar Konig K-Summit in Tire Chains

Etrailer.com did an excellent job in shipping the two sets of chains that I ordered. Super detailed tracking information was awesome. It always makes me nervous when buying over the internet that a retailer may ship the wrong item especially considering how many different sizes these chains are available. I will point out that the chains were advertised as Thule. However, I received one set of Thule and the other set was Konig who bought out this chain line from Thule in 12/2015. In comparing the two brands side-by-side, the components and build are absolutely indistinguishable from each other with the exception of the brand stickers. I have no reason to believe one brand to be superior to the other. The K56's fit my Honda Accord 225/65/17 tires like a glove. They are a combination of simplicity and sophistication, if that's possible. I can't wait to try them out on the ice and snow. Thank you etrailer.com and I would definitely order from you again. 275371

  • Recommended Snow Chains for 2017 VW Golf Alltrack with 225/55-17 Tires
The 225/55-17 tires are bigger than the manufacturer normally puts on the vehicle. If you have these tires, you will have even more limited clearances so I recommend only using the Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link - K-Summit - Size K44 # TH02230K44. These chains require no inner clearance as they only ride on tread portion of the tire. I've linked a video of this to assist. The chains should be installed on the front tires of your 4Motion system....

  • Snow Chain Use on 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek with P225/55R17 Tires
When it comes to using tire chains, the auto maker gets to have the final word. On page 8-11 of the online owner's manual Subaru indicates that standard tire chains cannot be used due to limited clearance between the tires and the vehicle body, but that special low-profile S-Class traction devices CAN be used but only on the FRONT tires. Thule's K-Summit Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # TH02230K44 are S-Class rated and will fit your P225/55R17 size tires. These advanced self-tensioning...

  • Thule K-Summit Tire Chain Recommendation for a 245/45-18 Size Tire
Yes, the Thule K-Summit Tire Chains part # TH02230K44 that you referenced will fit the tire size 245/45-18 that you have and that you sent in a picture of. These chains are great because they don't drape over the inside corner of the tire so they do not require any amount of inner tire clearance and they don't touch the rim so you don't have to worry about them damaging the nice finish of your wheels. For an all wheel drive vehicle ideally you would put chains on all four wheels as...

  • Tire Chains for 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek with 225/55-17 Tires
Auto makers get the final word when it comes to using tire chains on their vehicles. The best place to start your review is your Crosstrek owner's manual. I reviewed an online version and in section 8-11 the manual states that tire chains cannot be used on the XV Crosstrek due to limited clearance between the tires and the vehicle body. It further states that special low-profile S-Class traction devices can be used on the front tires only when those tires are compatible with a specific...

  • Snow Chain Recommendation for a 2015 BMW X3 with 245/45-19
What tire size do you have? If you have the 245/45-19 the best chance you have for a set of tire chains would be the Thule K-Summit part # TH02230K44. Unlike most chains these require zero inner tire clearance since they do not drape over the inner sidewall of the tire at all so they are great for vehicles that do not have much clearance. These also do not touch the rims like other chains do. While we can't recommend you use chains on a vehicle that the manufacturer states they can't...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2016/2017 Subaru Crosstrek and Which Axle to Use
I checked the owners manual of the 2016/2017 Subaru Crosstrek and they state to run Class S compatible traction devices only on the front axle. For your tire size of 225/55-17 the best solution for that is the Konig K-Summit chains part # TH02230K44 because these actually do not drape over the inside of the tire sidewall at all so there would be no risk for clearance issues at all. See picture. These also provide great traction and are easy to install. I attached a link to a review video...

The K-Summit tire chains # TH02230K44 will fit tire size 225/50R18. I have linked the instructions for you. Because these chains do not have any part that fits on the inboard sidewall of the tire there will not be any interference with components near the tires. Be sure to consult the vehicle owner's manual for additional information on the use of tire chains.

The Thule K-Summit Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains, Size K44 # TH02230K44 are confirmed to fit the 225/55-17 size tires on your 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek. The owner's manual for your XV Crosstrek says tire chains should not be used, but that another type of traction device may be acceptable. For your 2015 Chevy SS with tire size 275/35-19 there's only one tire chain set we offer I would recommend due to the limited clearances your vehicle is going to have and the fact you'll most likely want to keep our wheels as nice as possible. For that you'd want the Konig K-Summit Chains part # TH02230K44 which due to how they install basically do not require any clearance since they do not drape over the inner sidewall. First, if you cannot find any additional chain information in the owners manual, I recommend contacting a BMW dealer and speaking with a technician. Most vehicles like yours with the larger rims do require Class S chains if chains can be used at all. Tire chains should be placed on the main drive wheels. Vehicles with 2-wheel drive, 4-wheel drive, or all wheel drive can all use 1 set of chains. Going with the chains that offer the most clearance will be the way to go. The Thule K-Summit...
