  • Replacement Dexter Electric Brakes for Trailer with 9,000 or 10,000 Pound Axles
For the axles on your trailer, I recommend the Dexter Electric Brake Kit # 23-450-451. These are self-adjusting brake assemblies that measure 12-1/4 inches x 3-3/8 inches. These particular brake assemblies are designed for 9,000-10,000 pound Dexter axles, so they will work great whether you actually have a 9,000 pound or 10,000 pound axle on the trailer. To ensure they will fit perfectly, you can take a couple of quick measurements on your existing drum to verify they are 12-1/4 inches...

  • Will Electric Brake Assemblies Work Without A Magnet
If you're saying that one of the wire clips isn't there but the magnet for your brake assembly # 23-450-451 is still in place then yes, the brake assembly with still work. If you're saying there's no longer a magnet at all then no, the brake assembly will not work. When your brake controller sends the signal back to brake assembly it energizes the magnet clamping it onto the hub and expanding the brake shoes so that they make contact with the drum to slow the trailer down. If you're needing...

  • Replacement Electric Brake Assemblies For a 2018 Big Tex 22GN Trailer With 10K Dexter Axles
The Dexter Electric Brake Kit # 23-450-451 are the brakes you will need for your 2018 Big Tex 22GN with the 10,000lb Dexter axles. These are sold per axle so you will need 2 sets to replace all 4 of your brake assemblies. They are also sold individually as the Left # 23-450 and Right # 23-451 if you have a need to only replace one in the future. With self adjusting brakes like these it is more common for them to all wear evenly and need replaced at the same time.

  • What To Do If My Brake Pads Are Breaking Into Pieces?
It is completely normal for brakes to get warm when towing. Especially if you are doing a lot of braking, heat is natural. Now if the brake pad is falling apart, that is something you will want to address. Having pieces of brake shoe inside the drum could definitely cause excess friction/heat. You may still get decent braking power, but less brake pad = less braking power. Also I would be concerned that you may continue to lose pieces of the brake shoe over time. At this point I recommend...

  • Installing the Magnet Retainer Clip on a 10K Electric Brake
The magnet clips # BP19005 should not be making contact with the drum while the brakes engage, so I do not think that is the problem. What I think is going on is it's just not seating all the way. These can get a little squished or deformed causing this to happen, so it is fairly common. When snapping in place, you definitely want to push it in harder than you would expect to. You should get a pretty solid click/snap when it is fully seated. You should be able to gently pull on the magnet...

  • How To Adjust Brakes When The Shoes Are Too Far Apart To Get A Drum Back On
The Dexter Self-Adjusting Brakes you have ( # 23-450-451) can actually be adjusted when removing and reinstalling, so you will not have to use a sledge hammer again. You will need to go to the back side of the brake to get access to the adjuster, which I included a picture of for reference. Using a slot screwdriver, or a brake adjuster spoon like the # W80630 if you have one, you will need to back it off a little at a time until the drum slides on. I also included an article that has...

The main difference between the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13382 and Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76209 for a 2020 Subaru Crosstrek is that the Curt hitch has a hidden crosstube see photo one and the Draw-Tite hitch has a visible crosstube see photo two. The hidden crosstube is great because it retains a factory-ish look and you won't have as much reduced ground clearance so this is what I recommend using. The Hayes/AL-KO Hydraulic Brake Kit part # K23-524-00-2 is my recommendation for hydraulic drum brakes and should work with your existing hubs no problem just be sure to verify the size of the drum and make sure it's 12-1/4" x 3-1/2".
