Form meets function in Konig's K-Summit tire chains. Unlike typical snow chains, the K-Summit chains require no attachments behind the wheel. Simply place two of the traction plates on top of the tire and fasten the K-Summit to the wheel's lug nut or bolt with the easy-to-use fixing key. Activate the chain's ratcheting mechanism and you'll be ready to roll. As you drive away, the traction plates clamp onto the tire surface, and the chain adjusts to conform to the tire perfectly, providing a precise fit even on worn tires. After use, fold up the tire chains and store them in the compact, reusable carrying case.

The K-Summit delivers an extremely user-friendly design. Each chain sits on top of your tire's treads instead of wrapping around the entire wheel. This design not only eliminates the threat of scratches to your wheels, but it also ensures that there is no interference with any suspension or braking components on the inside of the wheel well.

Konig snow chains are handmade in Italy of hardened manganese-nickel alloy steel for durability. The reduced-clearance, D-shape links provide superior traction for excellent grip on snow and ice. The durable plastic traction plates have metal studs to give you superior grip while also providing a high level of driving comfort.

K-Summit Installation

How to Install the K-Summit Snow Chain:

  1. Lay 2 of the chains traction plates on top of the tire.
  2. Attach chain to 1 wheel nut.
  3. Activate the ratchet, which tightens as you drive away.

K-Summit Lug Nut Adapter

Lug Nut Adapter

Attach the lug nut adapter that matches your wheel bolt size to the fixing key. The most commonly used adapters are included with your K-Summit snow chains. (etrailer.com's custom fitguide will indicate whether your vehicle requires an adapter that is sold separately.) The fixing key then mounts to the wheel bolt on the end where the adapter has been affixed. The other end attaches to the K-Summit base, which includes the ratcheting mechanism that tensions the chains as you drive.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates the width
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel expressed in inches

2016 Mini Cooper

This is an update to the review for the 2017 MINI Cooper with 205/45-17 tires. By taking off both spacers (red and silver), I was able to get the chains to center on the tire - I might even be able to put one of the chain tightening screws back on, maybe more as the tread wears down. So I think they're going to work well this winter. I'll bump the review up to five stars when I can figure out how to get them to easily fit into the carrying case.

Comments
These worked great. The first time I used them, I didnt tighten the screw enough and one of the chains came off while driving. But after learning to tighten them enough, I had no problems. It was a mild winter, but at least I know that driving 20 miles in 5 of unplowed snow up the mountain highway isnt a problem. And I finally figured out how to get them back into the case.

These are adapters to allow the associated chain set fit some uncommon tire lugs. The adapters work flawlessly. Ordered them for the chain set as the rims on my vehicle require them. Fit perfectly as did the chains after adjustment. However, I don't know how well they actually work on snow and ice. Based on experience with a number of other chain sets I see no reason to doubt their reliability and efficiency. Backstory: Ordered a set for a trip to Colorado over Christmas & New Year's as we were expecting snow and ice as we were planning to travel to Estes Park, Denver, Colorado Springs, Salida, Buena Vista, Leadville, etc. Received our order quickly and correctly. Tried chains on tires and made fitting adjustments per instructions for exact tire size. Played with the chains a few times to make sure I knew how to get them deployed quickly. They are extremely easy to put on once they are adjusted. Watch the video - it really is that easy. Fast forward a few weeks, we went on our trip. Got not much more than a dusting the whole trip and never had to put the chains on. Meanwhile, back home, there were something like 129,000 poor bxxxxxxs waiting for the roads to be cleared and power to be restored from the huge ice and snow storms. At the end of our trip we drove home over clear roads surrounded by big piles of plowed snow. Arrived home to find our neighbors huge tree uprooted and blown over. We didn't receive any damage. Next day got the hound out of doggie jail pretty much as if nothing had happened. I like these chains!

Awesome grip. Easy to put in and take off. Great for low-clearance (oversized) wheels. Worth the price.

Review from a similar K-Summit in Tire Chains

Stay the away from this dangerous, poorly designed, incredibly overpriced, disaster waiting to happen, product. After following etrailers tire size calculator I ordered the K Summit chains for my Mercedes AMGGLC 43. I live full-time in a Mountain Community at 6000 feet and I’ve had many vehicles and experiences with tire chains and cables. I ordered these chains because of their supposed efficacy with high-performance vehicles with low profile tires, etc. Despite adequate practice pre-storm, by myself and both my sons who are in their 20’s, these over priced dangerous pieces of garbage failed on December 20, 2020 during a blizzard in our community while trying to get my sons to the airport. The right sided chain disappeared after less than 2 miles of driving and we were left stranded in a ditch on the wrong side of the road for days before our vehicle could be towed out due to the high demand in the area. I have been driving in snow conditions since I was a teenager, I am now 65. I have driven in worse conditions with 2 Wheel vehicles with regular chains and rarely failed to get home or around when I needed to. My Mercedes AMG has traction control, all wheel drive, slippery mode, and can be raised to avoid obstacles. Nonetheless, in this unusual freak blizzard, when I needed a chain product the most, these failed me and my family miserably. Their customer support consisted of a never ending chain of transfers from one person or department to another, and to this day I’ve never received a refund or gotten satisfaction. If I could’ve burned the remaining K summit chain I would’ve, but I had to settle for the pleasure of throwing the remaining one away in the expensive case it came in. Do yourself and anyone else you know who is shopping for chains a favor and warm them away from this failure prone overpriced piece of junk. RRT.

Comments
I have reached out to the manufacturer and determined that these chains would be a fit for the tire size. When installing the chains you will want to make sure that you are attaching the lug nut adapter that matches the wheel bot size. etrailer.coms custom fitguide will indicate whether your vehicle requires an adapter that is sold separately. And that you are using the cage, spacer and adapter correctly.

Review from a similar K-Summit in Tire Chains

I love these chains! I purchased them for a BMW X7 M50i, tire size 275/40r22 in front, 315/35r22 rear. The close fit of the chains fits my snow tires without causing damage to the vehicle or tires. It took a bit to figure out installation - the included directions remind me of IKEA instructions (few words, over simplified pictures). The online videos were the most helpful helpful for set-up/fit adjustment and installation. Also, be sure to get the ratchet assembly as close to flush with the wheel as possible. The chains won’t tighten properly if you fail this step. It took a few attempts to get them on the first time because of the learning curve. And still, it was maybe an hour from start to finish, including the removal of screws and changing the lug nut spacer to customize the fit. Once I had that done, actual installation was maybe 5 minutes. I had to drive further than 5 feet to achieve self-tightening (the videos don’t show this), and definitely check that they are secure before driving at speed. Overall, I am confident I can install these alone in adverse weather conditions, should the need arise. I plan to purchase more for other vehicles.

So far so good. I’m waiting for snow before I give 5 stars. It’s recommended you fit the chains before you actually need them to get familiar with the innovative design. I had to remove all 5 yellow bolts since my wheels are larger. Keep the extra hardware but you won’t need them unless you change cars. Once fitted you’re good to go. Wear gloves to mount them in about 5 minutes. I

Very unique design. Do set them up and put them on before you really need them. The screws that adjust the size do take some time to remove. Unlike others, I had few to no issues getting them off. They fit snuggly on my tires. They were a little hard to get off after releasing the tension, but I guess that is good too. I will have to wait until I need them to put them to the ultimate test.

Fantastic service - from time of placing the order, delivery updates, and follow up. Yet to use the Chains - but they are in the vehicle for winter emergencies over the passes and into the snow fields. All the information I needed to buy these special chains were on the website, including fitment. Thank you again.

Easy ordering process chains arrived in Seattle 2 days later with free shipping. Chains were for 275/50 20 tires for a MB GLE 450 Instructions called for (4) pins to be removed. Took 10 mins to put chains on. Instructions were good. I would recommend this product and trailer and etrailer

Review from a similar K-Summit in Tire Chains

Purchased these awesome chains because my 2019 traverse has custom wheels (wider) so traditional chains/cables that wrap around the wheels would cause damage to my brake components. The instructions in the manual can be a little confusing but read and watch the tutorial video and you'll be good to go. I had to remove the exact amount of bolts from the chains it recommended in the manual for my wheels, 5 if I remember correctly. After a couple dry runs installing/removing at home I was ready for big bear. The family and I spent Thanksgiving up on big bear and yes, it snowed A LOT!! The chains worked great and along with a lot of looks from other drivers, I even got compliments from the locals there that obviously are used to driving with chains. When it came time to take them off halfway down the mountain, it was super fast and easy I was done in no time. NOTE: the bolt that goes over the lug nut leaves an indentation on your lug nuts, especially if your vehicle has the chrome finished ones like mine does. Have to buy a new set of front wheel lug nuts and use the old ones for when we drive up to the snow again and use these cool chains!

These fit well on a VW Atlas R line with 20'' wheels. Tried low profile cables previously and they were too close to the strut. The Konig Summit XXL was easy to install and the exterior mounting style did not have clearance issues.

Review from a similar K-Summit in Tire Chains

I'm giving these four stars as I haven't tried them in snow. I bought them in Spring to save a few $$. The instructions are a little weird as the English translation isn't great and the pics are unclear in a few places. The instruction videos on etrailer are very helpful. You MUST set these up before you need to use them as they have to be sized to your specific tire dimensions and lug nut. The tightening wrench has a torque setting. When you fit the lug nut connection you tighten until you hear a click. It ends up really tight and took a little work to remove. After the lug connection is on, you tighten a ratchet before rolling the vehicle to complete installation. I didn't notice at first you only tighten until you see a line of red stitching. Because of that the chain didn't go on property. I reset and tried again and all was fine. These go on very tight. At least if you follow instructions to the letter. Hope they do what I need them to do in winter.

This isnt directed towards etrailer, they have been nothing but amazing. overall these chains are really expensive for snow chains that will only be used a couple of times a year. The instruction manual is horrible, directions are very broad and not specific at all which was beyond frustrating. Thankfully I fitted and tested the chains at home before I went up to the snow, one chain fell off during the first test but then I put it back on and it stayed on. I haven't been to the snow with them yet, so wish me luck!

Review from a similar K-Summit in Tire Chains

Had these K-Summit "chains" for a Toyota Corolla for 5+ years, and they worked so well that I immediately bought a new pair to fit my 2013 Honda Accord (different tire size), and they also work great. Used them the other day in 6" of unplowed snow, on the hill I live on. As long as you go slow (I usually drive < 25 MPH) they just keep moving you forward. Two quick notes: 1) I noticed going uphill that my wheels started skidding, then stopping, and repeated that annoying cycle, which made it harder than usual to continue moving forward. I quickly figured out that this was the way the anti-spin system worked on the car (which doesn't want you to spin your wheels). I disabled that and that odd behavior stopped. 2) The fitting guide, which tells you how many "links" or "regulation elements" (as the instructions calls them) to remove to fit the chain to the tire, is assuming you're placing them on all-season tires. When you use snow tires, as I do, you have to remove more links to get the chain to fit correctly. This is not a problem, but it's useful to know. The representative from Thule, the company from whom I bought my original set, admitted that they should mention this in the instruction guide.

Comments
Still great! Didn’t need them that often last season, but always nice to know they’re in the trunk if I do. Never been unable to complete trip with these “chains” attached.

Review from a similar K-Summit in Tire Chains

I am using K-Summit chains on a Chevy Bolt to get to a house in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I need the extra grip to get up some steep hills if there is snow or ice on the ground. The chains successfully allow me to climb hills through snow at least 4 inches deep and over ice where I could not otherwise go. The chains are easy to install and remove. The problem is that after a few uses several of the D Links broke. The advantage is that the Konig sent replacement chains under warranty. (There was a bit of a communication mix up between Italy and the United States. If I was a bit more persistent, I'm sure the warranty process would have been much quicker.) Haven't yet had a need to put the replacement chains to much use, so don't yet know whether I received a defective set of chains or whether this design is not suited to my use (which shouldn't be overly demanding). The purchase was quick and easy with etrailer.com. The warranty replacement was handled directly by Konig.

Review from a similar K-Summit in Tire Chains

The Konig self-tensioning snow chains I purchased were easy to install and worked great. However, I only used them once as a test to check them out. It had snowed just before I received them so the timing was great. I live in an area (East Tennessee) that has steep grades so I tested the chains on the grades-forward and backward while moving, stopped on the steepest grade and able to drive away without slipping, and effective when stopping. The chains were also easy to remove. I've done a lot of driving in the snow all over the US and also in Canada using a variety of chains including ice chains with v bars. The Konig chains were by far the easiest chains I've ever had to install. Incidentally, I have a Trail Rated 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited vehicle which I believe worked nicely to enhance the capabilities of both the Jeep and the chains.

Comments
Hi Patrick, Maybe its global warming but I havent had any snow required for my Konig chains. However, after my previous excellent experience that I wrote about, Im pretty sure they will work fine if needed. Many thanks for keeping in touch. Best wishes, Gary

Fits tight as a drum! The K44 is nice and snug on my 19’s. Kinda nervous about the stress on the tensioning strap and lug nut clinchers, but these things will be sweet if the Engineers did their job right! Only plan to use these for a few miles at a time, so if all goes well they’ll last me a good long while

  • 2013 Toyota Prius V 17 inch Rim Snow Chain Recommendation
The Thule K-Summit Tire Chains, part # TH02230K22, will fit the P215/45R17 tires on your 2010 Toyota Prius. This is an expensive option, but if you need a set of chains that will install easily, will provide great traction and offer you the best clearance possible since they do not go on the inside of the tire sidewall these are it. If you are looking instead for an emergency set I would go with the part # TC1547 instead. These are still pretty easy to install and will give you excellent...

  • Snow Tire Chain Recommendation for a 2005 Saturn Ion with 195/60-15 Tires
In order to determine what chains, if any, can be used on your 2005 Saturn Ion, you will want to consult the vehicle owners manual. There should be a section on chains, if they can be used, and if so if there are any restrictions. We have not had a 2005 Saturn Ion in to be fitted for chains so it is a measurement I do not have. What you can do is cut the wheels all the way left, measure, all the way right, measure, and straight, measure. You will measure from the inside of the tire to...

  • Can Tire Chains Be Used on 2008 Scion xB with Larger Aftermarket Wheels and Tires
The online edition of the owner's manual for the 2008 Scion xB indicates on page 251 that S-Class chains can be installed on the front tires only. It further states that cable and V-bar type chains cannot be used. This information is based on Toyota's assumption that you have stock wheels and the stock 205/55-16 tires on the car. Aftermarket products such as larger wheels and wider tires can prevent safe use of chains because the increased diameter and width of your tires will reduce the...

  • Will K-Summit Tire Chains Fit on a 2015 Mini Cooper with 205/45-17 Tires and 14mm Lug Nuts
First we need to make sure that what you are measuring is the same as what the K-Summit lug nut adapters fit. The 17 and 19 millimeters is referring to the outside dimension of the lug nut itself and not the size wheel bolt that it fits on. If your lug nuts are indeed 14mm then the K-Summit chains # TH02230K22 would not fit and there isn't a 14mm adapter. The option that requires the second least amount of clearance is the Snow Socks # TCH62.

  • Why Would Snow Cables Cause Inner Tire Clearance Issues on a 2008 Scion tC
First thing you need to do is check the owners manual for your 2008 Scion tC to determine if cables/chains are okay to use on your vehicle. For some vehicles there just isn't enough inner tire clearance to use cables/chains. For your vehicle the only tire size info we have is 215/45-17 which calls for the # PW1034 Glacier cables. You may be trying to use a set of cables that are just too big and that is why there is the fit issue. For an option that does not put any portion of the chain...

  • Link Thickness that Thule K-Summit Tire Chains Add to Tire Diameter
The link thickness of the Thule K-Summit tire chains # TH02230K22 is 10 mm which means that 10 mm is added to the top of your tires as well as to the outer shoulders of the tire. Due to how these install they do not add clearance to the inner shoulder of the tire.
