Aluminum looks great, but the lug nut wells take a beating over time. Steel inserts help prevent the holes from wearing down, which keeps the wheel seated properly and helps reduce the need for constant re-tightening.
Aluminum does not rust like steel, so the wheel keeps its look longer in wet weather, road spray, and storage. It is also lighter than many steel wheels, which can make handling and installs less of a chore.
Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer. Today we're gonna take a look at the Lionshead 16 inch by six inch Siberian gun metal gray aluminum trailer wheel with the six on 5 1/2-inch bolt pattern. Now this is an aluminum wheel. It's very durable, lightweight, and rustproof. We mentioned it's a Siberian design wheel, which means it's a split six spoke design, has a gunmetal gray finish, and if you look on the edge of the spokes, they do a machine finish on it to give you a nice shine to the wheel. They do use an automotive grade clear coat finish on the front.
Helps protect the scuffs and scratches. One of the nice features I like on this wheel, is they put steel inserts into these lug nut wells here, and that's designed to help keep your wheels securely in place on your trailer hub, prevents the holes from wearing down over time. Basically, when you put your lug nut in there and torque it down, it'll eliminate the need for constant re-tightening of your lug nuts. Valve stem is included. Now this does not have a center cap.
If you do want a center cap, we do sell those separately on our website. You do wanna make sure to get a center cap that'll have the same diameter of this opening, which is 4.25 inches. This wheel does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation specifications, and the SAE J1204 standards. A few dimensions on this wheel, we're gonna measure the diameter, and when you measure the of a diameter wheel, it's always inside to inside, or bead seat to bead seat. So if we take our tape measure (tape rasps) and if we go straight across, you'll see there's your 16-inch diameter.
The width will be the same way. You'll measure inside to inside or bead seat to bead seat. And again, there's your six-inch width. Bolt pattern on this wheel is a six on 5 1/2-inch bolt pattern. And if you wanna measure that on a wheel with an even number of lugs, it's pretty easy to do because the lug nuts holes are directly across from each other.
So what you'll do is take a ruler, and you'll pick any hole, let's say this one, and you're gonna measure from the center of this hole directly across to the center of the hole right across from it. On this, it'll measure 6 1/2 inches, or 5 1/2 inches. And that'll tell you that this is a six on 5 1/2-inch wheel. Does use a wheel lug size of a 1/2-inch by 20, or a 9/16 by 18. Weight capacity on this wheel is 3,200 pounds. I have not put the wheels on my boat trailer yet, but they are very nice wheels. My only recommendation is better packaging on the wheels for shipping. One wheel had a hard protective ring on it and it was in great shape, the second wheel had no ring on it and it has some scuffs on the face of the wheel around the lip. A little disappointed in that.
