Hello Monte, thanks for reaching out. Both of the springs you mentioned, the etrailer # e54SR and Dexter # DX23CR are springs for a 3,500 lb axle. The difference is the brand and the length. The # e54SR is our etrailer brand and is 25-1/8" long eye to eye. The # DX23CR is made by Dexter and is 25-1/4" long. The # DX23CR is going to be a direct replacement for your 072-042-00.

If you want to save a bit of money, the # e54SR is also a suitable replacement. The 1/8" difference is well within the acceptable tolerance when replacing leaf springs.

We do have some higher rated springs in this length, 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e57SR is 25-1/4" long and rated for a 4,000 lb axle. This would be a good upgrade if the current springs are being overworked. I wouldn't want to go too much higher than this or it could make the ride stiff.

What kind of trailer are these going on?

Hey Monte, how did the spring upgrade work out for your trailer? I'm curious to know if the higher-rated spring made a difference for you. Let me know, as it could help others in a similar situation!
