• Recommendation For Attaching CE Smith Bolster Bracket # CE10100A40 Onto Angle Iron Crossmember
  With mounting the CE Smith Bolster Bracket # CE10100A40 on an angle crossmember rather than a square you will want to use some square tubing to act as a gusset so a U-Bolt # CE15501A will hold the bracket tight against the crossmember. This will ensure it does not slide on the crossmember. I would not recommend drilling into the crossmember as it most likely is not large enough for multiple holes to secure the bracket properly.

  Given the dimensions you provided, I believe that a u-bolt kit such as # CE23103 that's typically used to mount a 2 inch square trailer axle to the leaf spring pack would be your best bet. The kit includes two assemblies, each of which includes two 4-1/2 inch long 1/2 inch U-bolts with a 2-1/8 inch inside span, two bolt plates and the necessary nuts and lock washers.   I recommend using the CE Smith U-Bolt # CE15501A because it is stainless steel, measures 2-1/8" wide x 4" long, and it includes the washers and nuts you need for the installation. Ultimately you will still get galvanic corrosion over time but stainless steel will react much slower than the zinc-plated options will which is why this is your best option for mounting your toolbox. If you need to make the U-Bolt shorter you can definitely do that as well.

  Stainless steel fasteners are going to be a much better option for securing a Trailer Tongue Toolbox # 350970 to the front of your trailer. Galvanized are going to be able to wear through the coating and begin to corrode while stainless is throughout the bolt and will not corrode and rust away.
