Recommended U-Bolt to Mount Toolbox to Aluminum Trailer Frame

Question:

Alum. trailer with 2x 3 frame. Should I order 2 inch wide U bolt or should I up size to 2 1/8 or 2 1/4 ? And I am mounting a tool box to frame. Need room for washer and nut inside of box. So Ill need 3 inch plus what 3/4 inch or 1 inch for total length of say 3 3/4 or 4 inch ? Like I said trailer is aluminum so should I use Zinc coated? Thanks

I recommend using the CE Smith U-Bolt # CE15501A because it is stainless steel, measures 2-1/8" wide x 4" long, and it includes the washers and nuts you need for the installation. Ultimately you will still get galvanic corrosion over time but stainless steel will react much slower than the zinc-plated options will which is why this is your best option for mounting your toolbox. If you need to make the U-Bolt shorter you can definitely do that as well.
